Royal Holiday
Royal Holiday | Jasmine Guillory
New York Times bestselling author Jasmine Guillory makes her hardcover debut with a heartwarming Christmas romance. Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie's work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can't refuse. She's excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn't expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain Private Secretary and his charming accent and unyielding formality. Malcolm Hudson has been the Queen's Private Secretary for years and has never given a personal, private tour...until now. He is intrigued by Vivian the moment he meets her and finds himself making excuses just to spend time with her. When flirtatious banter turns into a kiss under the mistletoe, things snowball into a full-on fling. Despite a ticking timer on their holiday romance, they are completely fine with ending their short, steamy fling come New Year's Day...or are they?

I sooo need a scone. Seriously the only thing that would have made this book better would be if it included the scone recipe. 😢 #sadlysconeless

Hotel Personal Care Box that includes condoms? Is that a thing? Cause that doesn't happen at the Holiday Inn. 😘

P.S. I didn't label this a spoiler. I figured if you read this series you know there is gonna be sex.

FourJasmine Guillory books ago, my original was a 3-star, meh read. I just didn‘t think the writing was all that good. I still don‘t, but now I‘m all in and I‘m completely caught up in her characters. This was my favorite of the four. In ‘The Bachelor‘ fashion, I find myself paying attention to her supporting characters in hopes of calling the MC for her next book.

#wintergames #slaybells @MidnightBookGirl @Clwojick @StayCurious Oh and this one was a TBR points wise.

YES PLEASE.

This one was so much better than I expected! It's pretty much my ideal love story. Christmas+British Monarchy+affection built on mutual appreciation of food and hand written notes = my love language.

MidnightBookGirl So this is a TBR, but it's also a Holiday Read, so you get the higher points. 21! 6d

First holiday read of the season. Also my first “older” romance. I‘m enjoying it so far but I wish I had time to read the first three books before this one. I know it‘s not a true series, but I still prefer to read things in order.

I know it‘s fiction and artistic licence but there is just too much wrong with this. I can forgive a lot but all the British dialogue was dreadful, Sandringham is not in the north and England/English are not interchangeable with Britain/British.

And it‘s a shame because I‘ve rated Guillory‘s books before.

I don‘t usually read romance but I needed a pallet cleaner after finishing The Last Temptation. I am almost finished with this sweet romance set in England with the royal family as part of the setting. Hopefully next week‘s book report will be better. #bookreport

Reading the first few chapters of Royal Holiday made me long for a good scone. And since I live in suburban USA, the best (perhaps only) scones around are my own (recipe from The Bread Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum). I don‘t mean to toot my own horn but there really isn‘t a place where one can get scones here.
I‘m about 60-odd pages into this book and scones have already been consumed several times. How can one resist the call of the scone?

eraderneely Jasmine Guillory‘s books always make me so hungry! The one where they ate tacos was THE WORST because I live in the north of England and the taco selection is pretty thin. 1mo

This is the fourth in a series of books I have not read otherwise, featuring the mother of one of the previous characters as she accompanies her daughter on a work trip to England. Vivian is a woman of color in her 50s and she's not expecting to find love but meets the Queen of England's personal secretary and sparks fly.⤵️

ReadingEnvy How often do you see an over 50 romance?

.

The sense of humor is fun. At one point, Vivian decides "It was time to put her bra on and do this."

.

She's a social worker, so she has supreme people skills that smooth over a lot of precarious situations. She knows who she is and what she is willing to do, which I liked. ⤵️
1mo
ReadingEnvy And she appreciates a man who knows that the best position to sleep in is close enough to touch but never trying to hold her when she is trying to sleep! Real talk.
.
Is romance set during the holidays the ultimate in cozy reads? I really craved scones while reading!
.
I had a copy from the publisher through NetGalley although it came out October 1.

Two romance tropes I do not like are the holiday romance and the royal romance. This is both of these and, strangely, I still enjoyed it. It helps that this is more nuanced than the usual Christmas romance. And it probably isn't really a "royal" romance as neither the hero or heroine are royal. I also really enjoyed that the hero and heroine of this book or of a certain age, something I'd like to see more of in romance.

Jasmine Guillory's fourth novel, Royal Holiday, is a charming entry in the world she began with The Wedding Date. Royal Holiday focuses on Vivian, the mother of Maddie (from The Wedding Party), who joins her daughter on an impromptu trip to London over Christmas. Maddie has a chance to style a Duchess, and she sees an opportunity for some time away with her mom. (continued in comments)

UnabridgedPod Almost immediately, Vivian meets Malcolm Hudson, personal secretary to the Queen, and they have an immediate connection. The characters here are well written and believable, the gentle cultural misunderstandings are fun, and their relationship develops along a sweet, romantic path. ⬇️ 2mo
UnabridgedPod The inevitable miscommunications here work out well, driven by their genuine feelings for each other and their willingness to be honest and direct. It's a sweet holiday romance perfect (if a bit early!) for the season. 2mo

Super solid addition to the series, but not my fave one. I loved that they travelled to England and all, but some of it was just a tad too far fetched for me. Also, why did she have to be so good at everything?

I love Jasmines Wedding Date series! Royal Holiday was not my favorite of the series but was still a great addition. To me it felt weaker probably due to it being shorter than the rest of the series and it felt like it jumped right into the story without too much build up. Hopefully there will be a book 5!

I usually only read seasonal books in the right season, but this just came out and I‘m hoping to see the author at the Portland Book Festival in a few weeks.

I‘m a fan of Guillory‘s contemporary romances. When Vivian Forest joins her daughter‘s work trip to England to style the duchess she unexpectedly falls for the Queen‘s private secretary, Malcolm Hudson. Light, sweet, fun- a good holiday read.

This book is a bit of a detour in this genre because it features characters that are more mature with age. The couple are navigating some unchartered territory—both have been single for years. This was refreshing and important to have this demographic represented. And can we just talk about the cameo from the Queen? Amazing!

Twinkling lights, festive food, a holiday romance and the royals—what more could you ask for in a book? Simply delightful!

Mehso-so

The premise of this latest Jasmine Guillory is good - the mother of the Duchess of England‘s stylist flies across the pond for a Christmas visit and falls for the Queen‘s private secretary - but the execution is meh. There‘s no difference between what should be the very different narrative voices of Vivian and Malcolm (a flaw in her other books too tbh) and the ending was too rushed. Props for having an older couple in contemporary romance though!
