Travelling Cat Chronicles
Travelling Cat Chronicles | Hiro Arikawa
A life-affirming anthem to kindness and self-sacrifice, The Travelling Cat Chronicles shows how the smallest things can provide the greatest joy. We take journeys to explore exotic new places and to return to the comforts of home, to visit old acquaintances and to make new friends. But the most important journey is the one that shows us how to follow our hearts . . . An instant international bestseller, The Travelling Cat Chronicles has charmed readers around the world. With simple yet descriptive prose, this novel gives voice to Nana the cat and his owner, Satoru, as they take to the road on a journey with no other purpose than to visit three of Satoru's longtime friends. Or so Nana is led to believe . . . With his crooked tail--a sign of good fortune--and adventurous spirit, Nana is the perfect companion for the man who took him in as a stray. And as they travel in a silver van across Japan, with its ever-changing scenery and seasons, they will learn the true meaning of courage and gratitude, of loyalty and love.

When Satoru takes his cat Nana on a road trip to find a new home for him, Nana finds ways to prolong their journey together. I never would have read this book if it hadn't been a book club pick--it is narrated by a cat, it's deeply sentimental, and it is tinged with sadness, all things I typically avoid. Still, it was a gentle and moving book, a tribute to the bond between a human and a cat, and to the power of connection, human and otherwise.

Such a heartwarming book, even if I did sob thru those last chapters. Loved reading from the cat‘s perspective, taking an enlightening road trip along breathtaking sites in Japan & picturing Nana almost exactly as this movie poster. Made me cherish my friendships, especially those that have survived decades. Didn‘t realize Hiro Arikawa also authored the Library Wars series, which I‘m about to start.

Woke up to see an email from Goodreads that I won a giveaway. I wish it was a physical book and not kindle, but that's ok. I'll take what I can get. I've really wanted to read this so I'm happy it's at least a book I'm really excited about. I don't enter them as often anymore since they changed the format... just seems like too much work

This was my irl bookclub read and my #doublespin for December. I really enjoyed it! It's a peaceful, reflective story of a cat travelling with his owner as he visits old friends. It switches POV between the humans and the cat; his feline thoughts are entertaining. The story is a bit bittersweet but demonstrates how the journey isn't as important as the people with whom you experience it.

My first hardcover #librarybookhaul in six years! 🥹After my free membership was revoked due to my ETJ resident status, I tried getting by with cheap ebooks, gift cards, and Little Free Library finds. A digital only nonresident library card also helped, but I still spent way too much money on book buying every year. Access to hardcover books makes the extra nonresident fee worth it, I grudgingly admit. Gotta support my book nerd habit after all!

Finished this early in the week for #FoodandLit #Japan & loved it. I usually have *issues* with pet stories that get sad—I just can‘t take it, especially as my Max🐱is on the downslope to 20 & showing it more every day. This book made me cry but it also made me smile. Nana the cat & his human Satoru have a wonderful relationship & Nana was written as just having the right amount of snark & cattitude. A special book, probably 4.5 ⭐️ for me. ⬇️

DebinHawaii Because this was for #foodandlitJapan I bought a Japanese Fruit Sando from a new shop here last week to pair with it. This sandwich has fruit—in this case strawberries + soft milk bread (crusts cut off) + a just slightly heavy whipped cream. It was delicious & I think would make a great "Sanji no Oyatsu" (translates to 3 o'clock snack) as Satoru & Nana traveled in the silver van. 2y

"There are so many things in life that are beyond our control."
This novel proves that realizing that truth doesn't have to mean living in despair or numbness or anger.
Very grateful to this snarky/sweet feline, and his caretaker, for the journey I got to go on with them.
Have you ever held any fondness for a cat? Yes? You will cry.
Have you ever lost a loved one? Yes? YOU WILL CRY.

I absolutely loved this book told from a cat‘s perspective. So tender and tinted with both joy and sorrow.

There was a part of the story that I did feel was unnecessary. But overall, it doesn‘t detract from the book.

The narration was amazing! One of the best on Audible. A definite must-listen for everyone. In fact, I say listen to the book rather than read.

If you‘re a cat lover, this will really touch your heart and warm your soul.
