This is a #BOTM selection that doesn't get enough attention. The plot was different from most of their thriller/mystery choices. One interesting element was how the lack of backstory for each character was built into the overall story. A pleasantly surprising choice! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book was different than expected, I went into it thinking more Wayward Pines vibes for some reason. (I was wrong) I imagine David Harbour as the main character-he would be perfect for it. It definitely kept me hooked to ride out the plot.

December 18: Happy Anniversary by Adam Sternberg. This story is an excerpt from his 4th novel.

A struggling marriage. A wife lives a note for her husband to meet her in a cabin for their 3rd weeding anniversary. What happens next?

Depending on the blurb for this novel, I would definitely be interested in reading the rest of this story.

There is some Litsy love for this book,I snapped it up on a Kindle daily deal.Imagine a place not beautiful, but a social experiment.Maybe you‘re a criminal or a witness to a crime, if you agree to live in this town & get your memories erased, you get a new name , a new start. An exciting read w/ many twists & turns , when things start to unravel , I was glad I was there to enjoy the ride.Darkly humorous w/ moral dilemmas & interesting characters.

Wow! This book is incredible. It made me think, that's for sure. Imagine living in the middle of nowhere amongst rehabilitated felons who have no memory of their crimes? Sternberg definitely keeps the reader's interest with the pacing of the plot. As the book drew to an end, I was turning those pages at rapid speed just to see what happened next. I'm glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone to give this one a try. 😃

Leftcoastzen On my TBR , lots of folks on Litsy love it, guess I need to move it up the stack.Nice review! 2y

This book was interesting and thought-provoking. What would happen is a medley of criminals had their memories wiped and were all placed in an isolated town? Are they still guilty and bad people even if they don't remember what they've done, and can't believe that they'd even commit a crime?

If you like this premise, you should also check out The I-Land on Netlfix. It was cheesy but binge-worthy.

Eggs I enjoyed this book (edited) 2y

#EverybodysHappyNowadays in The Blinds. The inhabitants of this rural Texas town are either witnesses or perpetrators of a crime, but are unsure which due to having their memory of the crime erased. A clever concept with a solid execution, I really enjoyed Sternbergh's book & look forward to catching up on his backlist before his next book is published.

I finished my BOTM pick from August 2017, (that‘s how far behind I am)! I really enjoyed this book. I was a little hesitant at first to pick it, but once I started reading I found myself really enjoying the story and characters. I liked that the book centered around criminals that had no idea they were criminals. I feel like it was an interesting concept. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

In The Blinds, there is a town in the Texas desert filled with those who wish to disappear/hide though with their memories wiped of certain life events. An intriguing premise, this book was great in places but uneven overall, then devolved into dark, gratuitous violence in a way that didn‘t serve the story and turned my stomach. I can‘t get behind this one. #botm

Terrific read with an original plot.
THE BLINDS was a cinematic and suspenseful thriller different from anything you can find on the shelves right now and that is a huge plus for me. I liked the feeling I had from the beginning of something lurking beneath the surface despite the apparent calm of CAESURA, a town that is one of a kind, a community full of criminal that have no idea of what they have done with their violent memories erased.

blurb
Libretto_Reviews
The Blinds | Adam Sternbergh

Almost at the end of it and I can say that no matter how the end goes, this is different and I like it. I like the idea of a bunch of strangers with violence erased from their memories, inflicted or endured, hiding somewhere in Texas without knowing who are they hiding from, if they criminals or witnesses .
Original concept for a thriller.
