Bloodsucking Fiends
Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story | Christopher Moore
Jody never asked to become a vampire. But when she wakes up under an alley Dumpster with a badly burned arm, an aching back, superhuman strength, and a distinctly Nosferatuan thirst, she realizes the decision has been made for her. Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. A would-be Kerouac from Incontinence, Indiana, Tommy (to his friends) is biding his time night-clerking and frozen-turkey bowling in a San Francisco Safeway. But all that changes when a beautiful undead redhead walks through the door...and proceeds to rock Tommy's life -- and afterlife -- in ways he never thought possible.

1. Loved revisiting some places I knew well, back in the day, including the Marina Safeway.
2. Chilly and overcast. About 70 degrees.
3. This guy Paul that I met at church. We went to see Full Metal Jacket. Not a date movie!
4. 4 sons, 6 grandkids, no pets (lots of family members have allergies)
5. 👍🏻👍🏻

With every book I read of Moore, I become an even bigger fan. This is my 2nd book I've read from him and I was just as entertained and laughed out loud so many times. I love C. Thomas Flood aka Tommy. He is much cleverer than he thinks and it shows by the end of the book. He is a great main character. My absolute favorite character is, of course, His Majesty, The Emperor. Oh, Bummer and Lazarus too! Can't leave out his right hand men. 5⭐

KateFulfordAuthor If you need another recommendation, may I point you to my People‘s Book Prize nominated debut? Sassy female narrative, laugh out dialogue and a pacy plot. Check the link in the bio for 2 free chapters, reviews and more. 1y

I mean, do what you want. But the "A Love Story" series is such a great set of vampire fiction-it's laugh-out-loud funny (the second book is called "You Suck." How can it not be hilarious?) but also has some really nice moments. And Jody and Tommy have a MUCH healthier relationship than Bella and Edward.

This one was a bit different than the books I usually read and only my second Christopher Moore book. I thought it was good and a bit out there but I didn't think it was as delightfully zany and fun as The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove. I'm torn between a pick and a so-so cause I liked it but I probably won't continue the series🤔

I needed an antidote to reality this weekend, and this was the perfect choice. I've read a zillion vampire books, and this one pokes fun at the genre. But, darn it, I still cared about fledgling vampire Jody and her humans. I'll be reading the other two books in the series soon!

NerdyRev I went through all of Chris Moore's books in one month a few years ago as all his characters appear in other books. It was nice to read them together to see that dynamic. 3y

Bloodsucking Fiends is a fun take on becoming a vampire in modern times. Sure it's a vampire story, but the book is really about the awkward and thrilling early days/weeks of relationships: learning to communicate, trust and eventually love. Awwww...
