I visited my favourite bookstore this morning and came away with some cool non-bookish stuff, including a super-cute weatherproof sticker I was gonna use to cover a scratch on my bike but decided to stick on my Kobo case instead so I can enjoy it more often.

Casey approves.

Does anyone use a Kobo? My Nook is old and very slow and I want to stop reading on my phone. The new Nook doesn‘t offer the ability to download apps to the device anymore apparently. Before I buy a tablet, i am wonder if Kobo allows you to download apps. I want to buy something where I have easy access to both my books on the Nook app and on the Kindle app. Any input or advice?

wanderinglynn @TheSpineView said she has a kobo & likes it. (edited) 6mo
Captivatedbybooks @TheSpineView are you able to download apps from an app store on Kobo? 6mo
TheSpineView @Captivatedbybooks I have never tried. I have just the basic eReader so probably not and mine is several years old. The new ones have a lot more features. I suggest you research it. I do like mine a lot and will replace it with a newer model when it dies. Hopefully not for a few more years. 6mo

I bought myself a new eReader! Nothing wrong with my Paperwhite, its just that I don‘t want to continue to support Jeff Bezos. Also, OverDrive is integrated into the Kobo, so now I don‘t have to use Libby to transfer ebooks.
But I ran into a dilemma where I was trying to remove the DRM from the Kindle ebooks that I bought on sale. Unfortunately, I couldn‘t remove it, so now I got to read all the books before I delete my Amazon account.

MsMelissa Nice! I hope you love it. I have both the Kobo Forma and a Kindle Oasis. I almost never use the Kindle because I hate the user interface, and the small screen. The Forma, on the other hand, I absolutely love. 3y
TheRiehlDeal @MsMelissa I have the Libra H2O. I think it‘s a great option for someone who doesn‘t want to fork out $200+ if it means they can forgo some features on the higher end models. 3y
MsMelissa Yes, definitely. I‘ve had several Kobo models over the years, and have never been disappointed. For me, the big plus for the Forma is the 8”screen size. 3y

Currently lusting over the #Kobo Libra #ereader. I miss buttons on ereaders. Not sure about the asymmetrical design, though.

My ereader has been frozen on this page since yesterday night. Nothing stirs it.

Anybody can help?

BarbaraTheBibliophage Have you googled for troubleshooting ideas? Usually there‘s a way to do a hard restart with devices. 5y
Susanita Hold down the power button for 40 seconds to see if that resets it. 5y
JazzFeathers @Susanita @BarbaraTheBibliophage It works! Thank goodness!!!! 5y

Guess who just got herself a nice little gift! Kobo Clara, my new best friend. I just got some ebooks from my library on there and am now doing a little ebook shopping.

My Kobo arrived! I've been a big fan of the Kindle for a long time but I'm interested in other platforms for books. 📚 #ebooks

Jess7 Can Kobo read ePub books? 6y
CampbellTaraL @Jess7 yep! EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, MOBI, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, TXT, HTML and RTF file types. I don't think you can send directly to it though, have to side load from a computer. 6y
Jess7 Like just downloading a file and then dragging and dropping the file? 6y
CampbellTaraL @Jess7 Yeah, pretty much from what it shows on the booklet. I haven't done it yet myself though. 😁 6y

As a Kindle user from 1.0, this is a big move, but I am excited!

Melissa_J I have the Aura One. I absolutely love it. I also have a Kindle PaperWhite but much prefer Kobo. (edited) 6y
MCYmermaid I heart Kobo, although I have migrated to just using the app on my IOS devices. 6y
NerdyRev This was a late Christmas present and I look forward to it. The tough part is I have big fingers, so typing so far was tough. 6y

[DELETED] 3803335244 I definitely want one but admit it‘s hard to fork out the money to make the switch from my paper white. It took me 5 months to save for my paper white. But I want to get rid of Amazon. I‘m super excited for you. Let me know how your liking it! ❤️❤️ 6y
NerdyRev @ForeverNerdy While the actual screen is the same size, the kobo unit is smaller than the Paperwhite, but thicker. The nice thing is no ads on the machine on the rest screen. It shows the cover of your current read instead. 6y
NerdyRev @ForeverNerdy You can turn off the cover display too 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 @NerdyRev I like that! The ads are a pain. Amazon is taking over everything with them 😂 6y

Can any #kobo users tell me about the app, specifically the ability to buy eBooks from independent book sellers, the catalog, and the functionality of the app? My sister is trying to support local and “ditch Amazon.” I‘m tagging people I think use Kobo, but please share freely. The more responses the better. Thanks in advance.

TheKidUpstairs I have a Kobo, but I don't use the app anywhere else (phone/ipad). But I have had no troubles with buying books from independent online shops. I've also bought direct from the publisher/ distributor in the past with book issues. And on occasion gotten books from my library (but I find the holds lists for ebooks to be long and frustrating, I usually give up and buy instead!) 6y
anhistorianabouttown I *love* my Kobo!! It's incredibly easy to add anything other than Amazon (I think it's .mobi?), I just drag and drop into it when I charge it. I've not had any problems adding independent books to my actual Kobo and the app. It's also very rare that I can't find a book! 6y

Jabberwocky Sorry- I had a kobo a million years ago but I couldn‘t make the switch to an e reader and only used it for about a year 6y
TricksyTails This is something I've been wondering too. How easy is it to borrow books from the library? OverDrive makes it easy for Kindle books. 6y
LibrarianRyan @TricksyTails not every library uses Overdrive. Kindles only work with Overdrive (except kindle fire). However all library ebook services work with Kobo. 6y
CJEskriett I'm a big Kobo fan. Their catalogue isn't quite as wide as Amazon but it's changing. Their prices are way more competitive than they used to be. As long as you buy epub books you can buy from anywhere and put them on your Kobo reader. I've had 3 readers over the past 6 years, all still functioning fine - I bought new ones only because new features were available. I have the Kobo aura 1 which is brilliant, borrow a lot of overdrive ebooks . 6y
Lcsmcat Thanks @CJEskriett @LibrarianRyan @anhistorianabouttown @TheKidUpstairs . I‘ll share this with my sister, since I haven‘t been able to get her on Litsy yet. Do any of you use the app on a tablet? 6y
TheKidUpstairs Ack! Just re read my comment, that should say NO issues, not book issues. Basically, I've been able to get books from lots of different places really easily! I love my Kobo 😁 6y
TheBookDream I use the Kobo app and have put Kobo books on my Nook e-inks in the past. So far, I like the Kobo app fine, but had quite a bit of trouble navigating the store during their Black Friday sale (had to switch to a desktop to do it). I do like that you can go to an independent book store's website, and if you purchase a book through the link from that site, the bookstore gets some money! 6y
TheBookDream Also, keep in mind that NOT all epubs work on a Kobo. Nook books are ePub, but they ended downloading to your desktop, so there's no way to get them on a Kobo. So be careful of that. 6y
thereadingowlvina I enjoy using my Kobo! Love the Overdrive app (that's the main reason I bought Kobo - so that I can borrow books from local library). So far, I've not encounter any problems with Kobo store. Lots of books selection. 😊 6y
Bitchezwhobrunchwithbookz I‘ve got no issues. Other than price as books do seem to cost more but I usually wait for sales and us points. I don‘t actually use the ap much (mainly for emergency reading 😂) I use the kobo reader. 6y

So I survived a whole month without any library loans, and that's quite enough of that! These are what landed yesterday... 2 options for #readaroundtheworld and Homegoing because I've been in the queue sine April.

HOWEVER, can any Overdrive-Adobe Editions- Kobo users tell what the deal is with that book cover? Me or them? Can I fix it? Cos having a quarter of the cover on the screen all month is really going to grate...

LeahBergen That would bug me! 7y
rockpools @LeahBergen Yup! I've had to turn on the privacy thingy, so I get a plain white screen when it goes 😴 7y
Kamisha Homegoing is so good! 7y
rockpools @Kamisha I've been waiting to read it for soooo long! 7y
Kamisha @RachelO Hope you enjoy it! It's a really good multigenerational novel, I liked it so much I read it one day! 7y

I have a kobo but can't use it for graphic novels. Also, looking for cheap choices (hence the Tab E Lite). Thanks!

Kendra.Diane I have the kindle paperwhite because I can read anywhere! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I have a kindle fire and I really like it! Even though I read more physical books... 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders I have a Kobo Glo and a Samsung tablet E. I do enjoy the Samsung because I can put all the reading apps on it! The library apps, Kindle app, Kobo app. I find that very handy! 7y

dixi_e @Kendra.Diane Kindle isn't compatible with Canadian libraries so I've stayed away. 7y
dixi_e @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thought about it but I'm a little hesitant to buy Kindle as it's not compatible here and I don't want to be tied to their products. 7y
dixi_e @Penny_LiteraryHoarders Is that the tablet I mentioned? The E Lite? Those are the exact reasons I want a cheap tablet. 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @dixi_e it's not the "lite" but it's the E. very affordable! Plus it has this "outdoor reading" feature under settings. It's so cool! I'm quite happy with it. ? 7y
dixi_e @Penny_LiteraryHoarders Thanks! I'll have to check it out. 7y

Help!! is it worth it to buy a kobo? I've been eyeballing either the kobo glo or aura for a few weeks but I'm scared I won't enjoy it. I love physical books and so far I've seen a lot of the e-books I would buy are the same price as the physical copies. Is there somewhere where titles are cheaper?? #kobo #ereader #help

Oooh, the new case for my kobo Aura One has arrived! I went to the same Etsy shop (InStyleLiving) that did the case for my H2O - she does good work! Both times I got a sleeve with a flap for added protection, and there's a pocket for my charging cord too!

rubyslippersreads 😍😍😍 7y
Bibliogeekery Thanks for the tip! I just got an Aura One and need a case! This one's lovely! 7y
Tanner @rubyslippersreads I know, right‽ I just had to have it! 7y
Tanner @Bibliogeekery They're not cheap, but neither was Aura One, so I wanted it protected and these sleeves are worth it. She'll customize them too (I got her to add a flap to the top so that the top side of the ereader is not exposed). 7y
