Big bro be watchin', yo.
Does anyone else love Thug Notes book summaries & analyses? They're so good!!
Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.
Gave this a reread. In today‘s current climate, this is more horrifying than ever. It definitely meant more to me today than in my 20s.

"INTP: science fiction" thanks @rretzler for sharing this bustle article that tells you what you enjoy reading based on your personality type. https://www.bustle.com/p/the-genre-of-book-you-need-to-be-reading-based-on-your-.... I always get INTP so I'm science fiction?? which I agree with as long as it's existential and along the lines of Orwell or ray Bradbury ?♀️ if only there was a category for vampire romance lol
A good article on the book‘s relevancy today but beware, it describes how doublethink exists on both sides of the aisle at present.

Halfway between Pick and So-So, and landed on Pick primarily because the societal trends that this book addresses really resonate right now, despite the fact that this book was written in the 40‘s. I think it‘s important for anyone to read this book, but over all it left me feeling deflated. This book evokes a such a weird conglomeration of emotions...
“Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”
My apologies for the Kardashian/Cardassian connection. It‘s where my brain went. I followed. And it actually works nicely with the quote (in my mind). Just another layer on the onion that is my contributions to the monthly challenges.

A timely and interesting article.
Can't believe this is the first time I've read this book... I don't even have words to describe how this made me feel. Scared, paranoid, enlightened, none of these are enough. I feel like I've learned a lot but almost wish I haven't.. but I guess that's the point - ignorance is bliss and "Ignorance is Strength"
You ever read a book but feel like you're not even close to finished with it? That's how I'm feeling now. Gotta read some HG Wells next!
It took me a while to finish this book because of finals, but I finally finished. There were some parts that were hard to get through, but overall I really enjoyed reading this book.
Week 4 of #MayMadness #BannedBooks
TBH I was shocked how many books were banned books including #AlicesAdventureinWonderland?! & Lord of the Ring? Here are a small stack of banned books I could find right away😆 I have read most of them here except #Fahrenheit451 & The Communist Manifesto which belongs to my daughter. Other banned books not pictured here are LOTR, To Kill a Mocking Bird & my favorite : Of Mice & Man.
Which one are you reading?
Friends! I found my new favorite Portland watering hole! Rose City Book Pub! Part used bookstore, part pub! You can drink, eat dinner, find a book, read it, take it home if you want. And they have literary events throughout the month. And all these cute little book nooks and crannies and I think I'm in love! Put it on your must-visit lists if you're ever in the neighborhood! 😍😍😍📚📚📚🍻🍻🍻
"In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy" Reading this and handmaids tale today makes them a lot scarier.. also everyone should listen to 2+2=5 by Radiohead :)
How many covers this book has had ( in today's Observer newspaper). Amazing book though.
Doing an enlish project where i paint characters from english classics, here is Julia from 1984:
This is a little less applicable in Canada, but still ....
Francophones! Last year, Gallimard published a “new“ translation of 1984, touted as the best yet, but within weeks experts found it was just a better stylised version of the canonical translation. Mssing sentences, contradictions between paragraphs. TL;DR don't buy that one. Éditions de la rue Dorion have just released a true new translation by Célia Izoard, who knows her stuff. Get that one.
Finished this book a couple days ago. I wasn‘t overwhelmed to be honest. And it could be because I set the bar too high. Orwell discusses the same concept with Animal Farm, wherein there‘s always a higher and lower society and that history always ends up “changing”. If you ask me, both are similar and unique in a way. But #animalfarm is still my favorite.
