Anxious People: A Novel | Fredrik Backman

One conflict that I felt like I could identify with was trying to decide what the right thing to do in a situation is. In this book, one of the characters had to make a choice between what his job was telling him to do and what he felt was morally right, which I feel like a lot of people can relate to that.

Ivanhoe | Walter Scott

Ivanhoe was published in 1819, and takes place in medieval times, so there's a lot of old language, “thee“ “thou“ etc. One major choice that the author made was that there isn't just one main character/narrator, it goes back and forth showing various characters' different experiences, which all connect into one story.

1984 | George Orwell

I want to read 1984 by George Orwell, because I love books about dystopian societies, and I know that it's a classic. Both the setting and plot of living in an ultra-censored world sound fascinating, and it's been recommended to me by multiple people.

Daisy Jones and The Six | Taylor Jenkins Reid

In my opinion, the real antagonist in Daisy Jones and the Six is the band members' addictions. Daisy is addicted to all kinds of drugs and it often leaves her vulnerable to being hurt, and Billy Dunne, the leader of the band, is sober but constantly tempted to start using drugs and alcohol again. There is no one person who's the antagonist, instead, it's their temptations and addictions that are harming them.

The central conflict of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is that actress Evelyn Hugo is in love with a fellow actress, Celia St James, but they have to hide their relationship from the world. The two of them break up several times because Evelyn is unwilling to sacrifice her fame for their love, but in the end she makes the decision and they give up Hollywood and live together.

Malibu Rising | Taylor Jenkins Reid

I'm reading Malibu Rising because I really enjoyed another book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, but so far not much has happened in this one. It takes place in 1983 and follows the life of the four children of a famous singer, and jumps back and forth between 1983 and them growing up. I think the book is building up to a big party they're going to have in the end, which will end in disaster.

Lather and Nothing Else | Hernando Tellez

I understand that the decision was difficult, but I think that the barber should have killed the captain. Although I'd usually think that violence isn't the answer, the captain had caused so much violence and death in the community that the barber should have, for the good of everyone, just gotten rid of him.

Catch-22 is about US air force pilots on an island during World War II. They are forced against their will to keep flying missions because of a rule called Catch-22, which says that if a man continues to fly dangerous missions he's insane and shouldn't fly anymore, but if he asks to stop flying missions, he's sane and therefore must keep flying. The book is made to mock the military and its bureaucracy, and everyone in it is crazy.
