This story was soooo interesting and sad. Beck made me sad and Straight Speaking made me laugh. This is not a story of redemption but of a life lived and boy are those the best kind of stories. #beck #malpeet #megrosoff #1900s #orphan #litsyAtoZ #letterP #canada #travel #race

YES YES DOUBLE YEEEEES! This was everything and more. Vampires, mad scientists and world's within door (or chests) work so well together with McGuire's narration. The entire novella was written so poetically and the characters are so fleshed out I feel like I could realistically be friends with both Jack and Jill. #seananmcguire #sticksandbones #teenfic #teenlit #yalit #pick #vampires #frankenstein #scientist #twins

Amazing! It's was so interesting (and I'm sure a challenge) to read a newly published book about very archaic paleontologist practices. Intertwined with how love use to be just had be wrapped up. I don't know. I can't find this book in my house right now and I'm not even mad about it. It's cute for a juvenile book but I was really bored by this...except Ardent. ❤️ loved him so much! #litsyAtoZ #letterN #frogkisser! #garthnix #bailed ##princess #magic #quests #juvenile #cute

Graphic and confusing at times but kept me reeled in to find out what happened next and how all this wrapped up. Not as impressed as I was with We Were Liars but a good short mystery nonetheless. #LitsyAtoZ #LetterL #GenuineFraud #elockhart #yafic #yamystery #teenfic #murder #runaway #romance #teen #meh

Gossip Girl meet Uglies is what this story boils down to. I was confused about when they characters were in the tower and when they weren't because there was no real "we've left the tower" description and also xenperheidren prolly could have used an abbreviation bc it stops the flow of the words. But I like the scene and the tone of the story. #litsyAtoZ #letterM #dystopia #katharinemcgee #thethousandthfloor #realism #yalit #yafic #socialites

I identify with Frost as far as her empathy towards her animal goes but that's about it. I feel as though this story has real potential but the way the story arc went, I didn't believe it and didn't really care about the characters which was frustrating as I wanted his story to get more involved. #litsyAtoZ #letterK #robots #zombies #animals #teenya #teenlit #youngadult #fantasyrealism #fiction #fantasy #dystopia

The Black Witch | Laurie Forest

Is it still plagiarism when it's plagiarized from the Bible but with a few differences? Or is this part of the story?!?!? HELP.

teebe It depends. Bible publishers have their own translations and put their own spin on it and their interpretation can be copyrighted. However, some versions are in the public domain. (Referring to quotations, that is. I feel like when it comes to other similar aspects like story or character, it'd be hard to call that plagiarism.) (edited) 7y
IndigoReader @teebe it's really weird. It's no quotations but it's like the premise of Genesis in the Bible but just replacing some of the main characters with fictional characters. It's very odd to read. 7y
teebe I wouldn't say that's plagiarism unless the author word for word copied Genesis and just replaced the names, in which case they'd be plagiarizing the translation. I would say it's not really possible to plagiarize story or character from the Bible because a lot of the stories in the Bible are themselves from earlier sources. Genesis is older than the Bible. 7y
teebe And the general story and character tropes are common amongst a lot of cultures. There tends to be a lot of unavoidable parallels. Plus I guess it could be marketed as a retelling or "inspired by", like all the endless retellings of Shakespeare lol (edited) 7y

I'd say the author had a grasp on what it feels like to be the outcast in the "popular" group. The prose was almost like poetry in that it flowed but was not forceful. I only had an issue with the way the whole "secret" was kept from the reader when this was written in first person. Overall, an ok teen angst read. #litsyAtoZ #letterG #teenread #teenfiction #yafiction #grit #matthewlaurence #arc #depression #special

I LOVE stories about gods and goddesses but there was something about the different pantheons interacting with one another that confused me. I stopped every time a new deity was introduced to look them up which was very frustrating. Welllllll......I don't really know how I feel about this one. I enjoyed the majority of the story but there were some tiny things that interrupted my flow of reading. Plot-holes, not enough character development, and something about Dee's relationship with the people around her didn't seem authentic? A solid 2.5/5. #litsyAtoZ #letterE #YAreads #fantasy #teenlit #YALit #theheartswesold #emilylloydjones #meh

This one started off fast and then slowed and then picked up the last few "chapters". But man, this is one of those reads EVERYONE should read. It will make you uncomfortable but change never occurs when people are comfortable. This hits all the right subjects that are being fought about right now as far as civil rights are concerned. A++

If this book was about any other culture I probably would have put it down after the first chapter. But I AM living this book right now. Cajun girl living in Atlanta. It made me homesick in a very good way. Evangeline is also one of my favorite poems so....it was a perfect story for a gumbo loving heart. ❤️

So, I'm not terribly disappointed in this but I'm also not terribly impressed which makes me so sad. I obviously flew through this story and ate all the magic up but there were some things within the story that just didn't add up. How was the hierarchy of magic calculated? What about the class system? Why can some have their heart glass refurb but not others? Overall, a decent read but if it was tweaked it would be gold star.
