My reading is getting quite interesting at this point of the year- novels for school, memoir for book club, and sci-fi & fantasy for relaxation! Enjoyed the tagged new release as a fan of the Normal Gossip podcast for my commute to work.

I‘ve never really given a thought about how all the books we read follow similar archetypes; precisely 7 as per this book.

dabbe One of the best books I've ever read. I'll even go further and say that all 7 can be whittle down to 1: the hero's quest. I think Joseph Campbell would agree with me. 😍 #theherowithathousandfaces 2w
SanjanaGhosh You‘re right, I guess every story involves some sort of quest, even if it‘s just an emotional one! 1w
MariaW Gosh, I have had this one on my shelf for forever. I thought the topic is quite interesting, started it already at least a dozen times, but never found the right time to calm down properly and carefully read it. I definitely have to try again. 💪💪💪 1w

In one way this book is exactly what it says it‘s about but in another way I feel it‘s lacking &too surface level. I feel the latter has more to do w/me than the book. I didn‘t know of McKinney or her podcast previously; I was drawn to this book b/c I‘m someone who simultaneously loves &hates gossip &was hoping for some insight into our obsession w/it at a more psychological &social science level. This largely discusses celebrities &reality tv.

Reggie The podcast is effing hilarious. It‘s real low stakes gossip but the situations and where people find themselves is so outrageously funny. 1mo
Kristy_K @Reggie That‘s the kind of gossip I love to listen to! 1mo

How to Tell a Story: The Essential Guide to Memorable Storytelling from The Moth | Catherine Burns, The Moth, Meg Bowles, Jenifer Hixson, Sarah Austin Jenness, Kate Tellers

Do you have a story to tell? For over 25 years, The Moth has been bringing masterful storytellers to stages and radios across the country, and in this book they finally put their process of sourcing, shaping, and performing stories onto the page for all. How to Tell a Story reminded me why I believe in the power of stories to change the world, it made me more confident to tell my own, and it gave me the tools to tell my story and be heard.

Creative book! I think kids would enjoy it. It's an easy read. It would be easy to tie this book to an activity in storytelling or writing. It talks about the versatility of stories.

The story ideas escape their jar. To get them back in, the class creates stories for the ideas.
