Unicorns are basically just overgrown, magical, flying cats. They shed and scratch and chew and burp. Also, they attract other unicorns so they don‘t get lonely. That‘s pretty much how I ended up with five cats, so same same. Fun and colorful and totally didn‘t convince me that I shouldn‘t get a unicorn.

This one was a little slow in places, but overall a fun middle grade fantasy. I'm always a sucker for dragons.

One of the lovely things about this series (for me) is that there are academics of all sorts of fields doing research (some more legitimately than others). I relate to Isabella and the biological research a lot, of course, but my BA and MA were heavily language focused and involved a healthy introduction to translation, so I'm really feeling Audrey, too!

#LetsTravelAugust #Adventure

There are so many books that I thought of for the Adventure photo prompt. The Hobbit/LOTR's, Tad Williams, RA Salvatore, Terry Brooks, Raymond Feist, Narnia...not to mention all the more modern stuff...

Dragonlance won out though. It was these books that pushed me forward into playing Dungeons and Dragons as a kid and that's an adventure I still participate in to this day. 😊

Major TW for rape.

Y‘all, this book is brutal—but if you can navigate the brutality (and tolerate the formatting, which I discussed in a previous post), it‘s also a gripping political thriller. Hogarth examines how two wildly different cultures might clash, connect, and ultimately bleed into one another. The text argues for compassion, for acknowledging personhood, and for adaptability. I loved it.

It‘s still free at most retailers, too.
