The Fiery Cross
The Fiery Cross | Diana Gabaldon
Crossing the boundaries of genre with its unrivalled storytelling, Diana Gabaldons new novel is a gift both to her millions of loyal fans and to the lucky readers who have yet to discover her.In the ten years since her extraordinary debut novel, Outlander, was published, beloved author Diana Gabaldon has entertained scores of readers with her heart-stirring stories and remarkable characters. The four volumes of her bestselling saga, featuring eighteenth-century Scotsman James Fraser and his twentieth-century, time-travelling wife, Claire Randall, boasts nearly 5 million copies in the U.S.The story of Outlander begins just after the Second World War, when a British field nurse named Claire Randall walks through a cleft stone in the Scottish highlands and is transported back some two hundred years to 1743.Here, now, is The Fiery Cross, the eagerly awaited fifth volume in this remarkable, award-winning series of historical novels. The year is 1771, and war is approaching. Jamie Frasers wife has told him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy a time-travellers certain knowledge. To break his oath to the Crown will brand him a traitor; to keep it is certain doom. Jamie Fraser stands in the shadow of the fiery cross a standard that leads nowhere but to the bloody brink of war. From the Hardcover edition.

Finished. Now to wait for season 5 in February. I honestly though it would take me a lot longer to read drums and this one before season 5 but here I am. I do t want to blur the edges of the rest of the series so I will wait to read #6

Had to look at past GR lists to find some of these answers. I went by page numbers listed in GR.
1. The Importance of Being Earnest 76 pages
2. The Fiery Cross 1443 pages
3. Anne of Green Gables
4. On kindle but the most recently published is The Art Of Theft

So far, my least liked of the series. That doesn't mean it wasn't good, Only that I liked the others better. I am curious to see where the story goes from here.

I am amazed that Diana Gabaldon was able to write so many words about nothing. I‘m even more amazed that I liked it. Regardless of it‘s lacking plot.

Zelma That was by far my least favorite; I thought it was a slog. Now the next book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes? Outstanding! 3mo
JacqMac @Zelma That‘s great to hear! It took me forever to get through this one. 3mo
Buechersuechtling 😂 Love the first sentence of your review. I‘m not quite sure but if this is a book that belongs to the “Highland”-/“Outlander”-series I can only agree. Years ago I tried volume one as an audiobook but quickly decided to not continue the series. 🤭 3mo

My mom always said “recipe”, but she wrote it “receipt”. I was reading last night, and Gabaldon wrote the word receipt for recipe. Which, because of my mom, made me really curious. (No wonder it‘s taking me so long to read this. 😂) This is what I found. My mom would be pleased.

It has been a really bad reading week for me. I only made a little progress on this one. I hardly even had time to check in with Litsy. I was busy, which made my anxiety bad, which made my brain too spinny to read. I didn‘t even bother signing up for the readathon. But I am going to try to get some chapters in today. And maybe some deep breathing. lol

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of my favorites from the series so far. If you look at it as a standalone (which it is not) then I‘d rate it less as there wasn‘t any major storyline, imo. However, as a book in a series, I rate it well. The only thing that irritates me of her writing is she should know by now that her audience knows the backstory and main characters‘ physical descriptions. Sometimes you want to include descriptions and other times it is unnecessary.

First off I LOVE the Outlander series. I could do without all the descriptions of their hair and recaps, but I love it. I‘ve been struggling to keep moving with this series. Mainly since the introduction of Brianna and Roger. I don‘t hate them, but their relationship bores me. I‘m really enjoying this book despite the back and forth, and I am finally coming around. That being said, nothing has really happened and I‘m nearly halfway through. 😂
