#WeeklyForecast 47/19

I‘m almost finished with The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne, our #NYRBBookclub choice, and loving it.

Next will be Bitter Orange For #ATY2019, where this week‘s prompt is ‘a book related to food‘.

If there‘s time left, I‘ll start Missoula for #ReadingUSA2019. Krakauer is such a good non-fiction writer.

In between, there‘s still Doctor Moreau. It‘s less than 200 pages but it takes forever to finish them.

Cinfhen Missoula was very good and Bitter Orange was very meh 😬😂 although Missoula was a dense read 11h
BarbaraBB I loved Swimming Lessons, that‘s why I bought this one, but I remember your so-so review indeed. I hope I‘ll like it! 10h
Kalalalatja I found Missoula so interesting! 4h
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja I‘m really looking forward to that one. Krakauer is such a good writer. I was fascinated by his 4h

I started We are Called to Rise today and am absolutely LOVING it so far. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Cindy. Next will be Too Much Lip, which I am so happy was gifted to me by @CarolynM Her review was so good. I‘ll read this one for #ATY2019.
In between I‘ll continue reading the Wells, both in hardcopy and on #SerialRead.

CarolynM Hope you enjoy Too Much Lip. Don't forget the glossary and you can ask me anything and I'll try to answer - I may need help from @MrsMalaprop 🙂 7d
MrsMalaprop @CarolynM 👏👏👏 So excited to see this being read widely. Have you read ? 7d
BarbaraBB @CarolynM @MrsMalaprop Thanks! I know how to find you 😘 7d
CarolynM @MrsMalaprop My book group has just chosen The Yield for our summer read. Looking forward to it. 7d
BarbaraBB @CarolynM do you know where I can find a glossary? I just started and it would come in handy 😀 6d
CarolynM @BarbaraBB I thought there was one in the back of the book but I've just checked and found it was in her earlier book Mullumbimby. My memory is getting worse and worse. I'm going to try to scan in that one and email it to you. (edited) 6d
BarbaraBB @CarolynM That would be so nice. Maybe there‘s one online as well. I‘ll have a look! 6d
CarolynM @BarbaraBB I've just emailed you a PDF of the Glossary from Mullumbimby from my westgarthwoman account. Hope you can access it! 6d
BarbaraBB @CarolynM perfect, I have received it and have already found some words that I was wondering about! 😘 6d

We Need New Names: A Novel | NoViolet Bulawayo

When picking books to fulfill wedding rhyme prompts, I only knew that I wanted to try and fill them in with all black authors. Now having read them, I noticed that they all deal with sharing knowledge and aspects of a particular culture. They‘re also split up down the middle by keeping aspects of culture and retellings in a new form.

I might not be able to plan this again with future challenges, but this tiny coincidence was nice. 😊

Cinfhen I‘m only on chapter 7 @jillrhudy but so far, I think this book would be excellent for bookclub. I‘ll keep you posted!!! 4w
Cinfhen Your book sounds very dense @Simona 😘but I‘m glad you‘re trudging along 4w
Cinfhen Good luck making some progress this week @LibrarianRyan it‘s only Tuesday so you have a few days to knock them out 💪🏼❤️ 4w
BarbaraBB I don‘t know any of them! I am reading 4w
BarbaraBB @Simona I loved that book!! 4w
Cinfhen Your book sounds intriguing @BarbaraBB is it for your 50 States challenge??? 4w
CoffeeAndABook Those books all look interesting!! Do you have the house to yourself again? Your time to yourself again? Sorry, I I‘m not informed, I haven‘t been visiting Littenland for a few days. I‘m reading tagged book but it‘s slooooow. It won‘t end! Too good to bail but I‘m ready for it to just ... be over I guess 😂 Already have several books waiting!! 4w
Cinfhen Yup!!!!! I‘m houseguest free until Friday @CoffeeAndABook and I‘m SOOOOO HAPPY 😆 it was a long few weeks but I did enjoy spending time with my parents and other friends from overseas. BTW: I really liked the book you‘re reading!!! But she was a bit of a downer and I get why you‘re ready to say goodbye 😛 4w
TrishB This one - ok thriller so far! 4w
Cinfhen Sounds creepy @TrishB glad you found a book today 😜 4w
BarbaraBB No it‘s just an easy one for the #ATY2019 challenge. It had many good reviews here but so far I‘m still waiting for something to happen! 4w
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen Just finished The Cactus and have to admit I cried reading the last few chapters,it really is a very good book. Perhaps not the right book at this time but I‘m glad I read it😊Wow Friday‘s the next round of house guests! Bet you‘re drinking up every second of the precious time until then 😉 but I know having family over is just so worth it. And then you get to enjoy the bliss of having your space to yourself again!! 🙌🏻 (edited) 4w
Cinfhen @CoffeeAndABook I have weekend guests this Friday/ My parents return the following weekend and then I‘m guest free until November 22 🥳🥳🥳 it‘s a lot of work but the reward of quiet time is so worth it! Glad you enjoyed 4w

I‘ll start by saying I am a sucker for a good multi-generational story! The characters are very “unique” and it did take me some time to get into this one but I loved learning more about Zambian history and reading about these families and how they interconnect. The last section veered off in an unexpected direction but I still found it interesting and relevant to what is happening in the world. #aty2019

Ruthiella 😃 Yay! I have this sitting on my shelf! Hopefully I‘ll get to it this Fall. 2mo
Rachel_nyc @Ruthiella I can‘t wait to hear your thoughts. It almost feels like 2 novels in one because it switches from a more traditional multi generational historical fiction to a near future tech novel but I enjoyed it! 2mo

#readinggoals I have 3 of these on the go and for book club, my friend picked the two plays. Virginia Woolf will be a reread which is fine because it‘s great. I don‘t know anything about God of Carnage. These will probably be it for September. Some count for my ongoing #gilmoregirlsreadingchallenge and #aty2019 #selfimprovementsept

I loved Lilac Girls and was excited to read a WWI novel by the same author. I enjoyed the story, particularly the parts in Russia, but the varying perspectives were awkwardly done. This was fine otherwise but not really memorable. The photo is from a recent sunset boat ride and felt it appropriate for an immigrant story. #aty2019

BarbaraBB Such a great picture! Don‘t know the book. 3mo
Rachel_nyc @BarbaraBB Thanks! It was such a beautiful evening and sunset! I would recommend the author‘s book Lilac Girls which is a WWII novel about women in Ravensbruck concentration camp. I wonder if the author was pushed by her publisher, due to that book‘s success, to follow it up with this “prequel”? The books have very little in common other than a main character in this one is the mother of a main character in the other. 3mo
BarbaraBB Thanks! I‘ll check out Lilac Girls first! 3mo
Liz_M Beautiful picture! 2mo

Compulsively readable but just not nearly as emotionally involved as some of the author‘s other books. #ATY2019 #blackcover
