Dear #pemberlittens, I finished reading the previous selection! Now, I will look back and read everyone‘s comments. My favorite character was Elinor Dashwood. She exemplified strength, loyalty, kindness and grace. The writing was exquisite, as I fully expected. However, the constant evaluations of a woman‘s beauty as her ticket to a good match irritated my enjoyment of the story. I was so tired of the tributes to Marianne‘s beauty.
Saw this play last night. It was a loose adaptation but enjoyable nonetheless. Plus, it was nice to go to a theater again. #janeausten

#200PnPcovers #Gossip @CrowCAH @mabell Have you heard? Mrs. Jennings is one of the biggest gossips out there!
#200PnPcovers @CrowCAH @mabell #conveyances My mind went to the scandalous carriage ride that Willoughby and Marianne went on where they ended up disappearing together (without a chaperone) and heading to his future house…Surely such a familiar ride and destination must mean they‘re engaged, no?
Absolutely adored my reread for #Pemberlittens! I'd rewatched the Ang Lee movie recently so it was good to refresh my memory of what is actually in the book.
Beautiful writing and wonderful characters (as almost always with Austen).
I read Pride and Prejudice several years ago and absolutely loved it. I have therefore been wanting to read another book by Austen for some time.
I did enjoy reading S&S but I have to admit that I didn‘t love it just as much as P&P. Also everything happened very fast at the end which was kind of a shame.
3/6 📚
Forgot to post this- I really enjoyed reading this for the first time with the #pemberlittens led by the wonderful @BarkingMadRun , whose daily posts kept me going! I really enjoyed it. Anyway, it was about time I read it and I really loved the experience.
This was my first time reading this Austen, which is crazy. But I'm glad I joined the #Pemberlittens in this chapter-a-day! I went in completely blind, as I've put off even watching any adaptations for years until I read the book. Overall I enjoyed the story and the characters. Honestly though, I was a little disappointed in who the ladies ended up with at the end. Edward did not deserve Elinor, but hey, as long as she's happy 🙃
It‘s always so nice to come back to a Jane Austen book. While I love chapter-a-day reads because I get to savor something and spend drawn out relaxed time with it, this is the first time I‘ve finished a #pemberlitten book feeling like I missed something by not reading it straight through, so I may make time to come back to this one later this year… #PopSugar2022 #ABookSetInVictorianTimes
What did everyone think?! This is my third time reading, and it‘s still one of my fave Austen novels! #pemberlittens #buddyread
We've done it again, #PemberLittens! Congrats on making it to the end! Marianne and Brandon have a boring-ass love story where she gradually learns to love and respect him, and they marry; Mrs. Ferrars forgives both of her sons, and even throws a coin or two Edward's way; Willoughby has some regrets, but still goes on his pleasure-seeking, perma-fuckboy way; and Mrs Jennings and Sir John turn their attention to Margaret as the action closes. Fin!
After a quick anxiety walk, Edward returns to officially propose, and he quickly secures his lady! Huzzah! A good deal of the rest of the chapter is given over to everyone trashing Lucy, which is the right and proper reaction to her fuckery. Colonel B comes back around and he and Edward get on like...dare I say...brothers? The two set off together to check out the pad at Delaford as we continue to hurtle toward our happy ending. #PemberLittens
Chapter 49: Edward and Elinor are engaged and Edward goes to fix things with dear old Mum. Letters are abound from everyone! It‘s mayhem! #pemberlittens #buddyread
What a wonderful novel this is! It was a pleasure to read about controlled Elinor and uninhibited Marianne again. Austen weaves the differences of the sisters from an underling critique of the Romantic poets and their valuing emotion and personal experience over social proprieties and old English self-control. (I‘m simplifying too much, of course.) Col. Brandon seems duller than actors portray him, but the rest of the book is glorious Austen.
The truth comes stammering out today! Edward unexpectedly shows up to twist the "I got married and NOT TO YOU!" knife a little further for Elinor, but hark! While nervously ruining her good scissors (I feel my costume designer/quilting friends hissing in outrage), Edward admits that Lucy married Robert; he is FREE! But instead of going directly after an overcome Elinor, my dude runs ? out ? of ? the ? house. Edward, you are a disappointment.
Edward stops by with some interesting news….. #pemberlittens #buddyread
#thatswhen
? And you said, "Honestly
When you were gone, did you ever think of me?" ?

Ok so somehow I read two chapters at once at some point? I‘m not sure. But I‘m ahead a chapter. So tomorrow I‘ll start posting again lol with chapter 48? Help! #pemberlittens #buddyread
OK, apologies to anyone put off by the language, but I snorted when I saw this and had to use it. Today the Dashwoods return to Barton at last! Marianne still gets teary at trees and fields and sheet music that remind her of Willoughby, but she's determined to be emotionally mature from here on out. She makes Elinor a lovely apology (still slightly overwrought, but that's our girl), and even bears the news of W's visit pretty well. Progress!
Chapter 46: everyone is back at Barton and Thomas ran in to Lucy Steele… er….. Ferrars and her hubby in town. #pemberlittens #buddyread
Chapter 45: the Colonel brings Mrs Dashwood to see Marianne and Mrs Dashwood knows how Brandon really feels…… #pemberlittens #buddyread
After Willoughby takes his drunk ass out the door, Elinor is surprised to feels more pity than hate. No matter, though, because Mrs. Dashwood arrives, overjoyed that her daughter will live! Not only that, but Brandon confessed to her his love for Marianne, and Mrs. D is already plotting a move closer to Delaford and being like, "I never liked Willoughby anyway" to which Elinor gives an emphatic internal eyeroll. Girl, same. #PemberLittens
24 hours in Bath, amazing bookshops and lovely to be reading Austen whilst here!
Chapter 44, and Willoughby shows up to check on Marianne‘s illness….. 🙄 #pemberlittens #buddyread
Last chapter's cliffhanger ending never fails to be a shocker- Willoughby, having heard that Marianne is near death, shows up at Cleveland! He has come to drunkenly whine about his own poor choices and bad-mouth his wife in a quest for absolution. He says he's come to offer an apology, but he never actually begs forgiveness; instead he goes on and on about how miserable HE feels. I've got no pity for this absolute twatwaffle; how about you?
Jill is keeping me company while I read. She is purring so loud that it‘s distracting ❤️😘😽🐱

Finished early. When I was in my teens and twenties I loved Austen. (Even named my oldest Emma Jane!) I joined In because I wanted to see if that love would stand the test of time. I think it‘s gone lukewarm, similar to my feelings for many classics. This was between a pick and a so so for me. Perhaps rereading another with the #PemberLittens will go a different way.
Chapter 43 and Marianne takes a turn for the worse. That‘s cliffhanger last sentence made me want to keep reading! #pemberlittens #buddyread
I forgot to post yesterday! Marianne took a stroll in the bad weather and now she isn‘t feeling well…… #pemberlittens #buddyread
Off to Cleveland at last, and Marianne brings "antisocial behavior" to new heights, disappearing for solo walks around the property whenever she can. But those solo walks in damp grass lead to a pretty bad cold, and I sense trouble from here... #PemberLittens
Hard to say who I dislike the most between John Dashwood and Robert Ferrars. Elinor has to endure them both today, and each offers up a truly trash take: John's basically saying, "We think you and Lucy are both the pits, but you're slightly less terrible, thought you'd want to know!" and Robert hates on Edward for having to live in a parsonage, officiate weddings, and wear a clergyman's garb. Both of these dudes need to STFU immediately, amirite?
Chapter 41. A lovely glimpse at all our favorites 🙄 we get to hear how John Dashwood, Fanny, and Robert feel about Edward‘s new living #pemberlittens #buddyread
I actually love today's chapter and all of its farcical silliness. Mrs. Jennings ships Elinor/Brandon hardcore, and overheard just enough of their conversation to support her theory. She and Elinor go back and forth about it, each presuming they're on the same page, but are very much not even on the same planet. And my favorite bit of all? Even when the truth comes out, Mrs. Jennings believes that the two will marry. Sign her up for AO3, stat!
Chapter 40: the look on Edward‘s face when he hears Brandon‘s offer… #pemberlittens #buddyread
Jennings and Palmer put the pressure on for our heroines to visit Cleveland, and even though they don't really want to go, it's one step closer to being home and leaving this entire London debacle behind. Meanwhile, Colonel Brandon, kind and generous as ever, pulls Elinor aside to offer Edward the parsonage at Delaford. Mrs. Jennings hears just enough to assume they're discussing marriage, because what else could anyone ever be discussing??
Colonel Brandon is being awesome again. #always #pemberlittens #buddyread
Chapter 38, and Anne Steele is a creeper who spies on her sister 👀 #pemberlittens #buddyread
The word is OUT about Lucy and Edward! Fanny has such a huge temper tantrum that John has to call a freakin' doctor to attend her. But that extreme reaction has nothing on how Mrs. Ferrars responds: she tries to bribe Edward to break the engagement by offering property and money, but when Eddie sticks by his (dim but manipulative) lady, Mrs. F disowns him on the spot and vows to squash his progress in any profession he might undertake. Damn, Gina!
Fanny finds out Lucy‘s secret and loses her mind. Everyone is taking sides. Marianne is shocked. It‘s chaos. #pemberlittens #buddyread
Chapter 36 has us meeting Robert Ferrars for the first time, and Fanny invited the Steeles for a visit. What could go wrong? #buddyread #pemberlittens
Chapter 35: when Edward comes to visit Elinor, and Lucy is there. Can it get more awkward? Let‘s bring in Marianne and see….. #pemberlittens #buddyread
I feel exhausted just having read today's chapter! A dinner party with the Ms. Steeles, Mrs. Ferrars, John and Fanny, and Lady Middleton would be a nightmare no matter what. But add to that a passive-aggressive argument about children's respective heights, a slight to Elinor's artwork, and Marianne bursting into tears at the table, and I'd be out. One cold, hard truthbomb from Marianne, though- who DOES care about Miss Morton? Absolutely nobody.
Chapter 34, where we meet Mrs Ferrars who dislikes Elinor but just loves Lucy, and the lovely Miss Morton 🙄 #pemberlittens #buddyread
UGGGHHHHHHHH, can we just NOT with the walking garbage can that is John Dashwood?? Here he is in London, flagrantly not calling on his sisters or caring about them in any way, and also spinning some nonsense story about Mrs. Jennings someday leaving them money?!? Elinor knows this is total bullshit, as is John's claim that Brandon is love with her, as is his spouting off about all of his Rich People Problems. Goddamn, this man is insufferable.
