I love Stephen King- and my late 80‘s reading were full of King, Koontz and Saul. Margaret Atwood (also a favorite) wrote the intro to the 50th anniversary edition- and the Times shares it- It is filled with nuances and information that only make me love Stephen King even more.

AmyG Wow…..I feel old. I read this when it was released as I was a huge teen horror fan. (edited) 2d

i have enjoyed this cozy series- also simultaneously wishing for some vegan cozy mysteries- Are there any?
I like the set up- the main character does seem to insert herself in situations that even for a cozy I‘m surprised work- but they do and it‘s a romp with a grilled cheese shop owner, and all her friends.

planting plans? when do you start planning? What are you planning?
So far my plans are “sort of” simple. I‘m going to try and grow lavender from seed using my greenhouse- so i can plant it around the fenced in part of my yard. My other plans are zinnias and Sunflowers and wildflowers. My last plan is adding 2 plum trees and an apple tree- and using farmers markets for all my fresh food needs. #natuaralitsy #litsolace #springequinox

Princess-Kingofkings I placed an order from Burpee yesterday. For the first time, I ordered a Buddleia plant. They say the butterflies love it! 🦋 1w

I‘m in a mystery stage- and i do like time travel- this book is ok- a serial killer attacks in modern day Scotland and his Victim, a Canadian detective ends up in the body of a housemaid who had been attacked in the same place 150 years earlier. I read it fairly quickly- because skimming did not take anything away- and it was sort of procedural and predictable in think i would give it 3/5 stars.

AmandaBlaze Armstrong's Rockton series is a lot better, I think. 3w

It‘s #hyggehour but i just finished my book… i wish Litsy had a “it‘s complicated” rating. It really took me a while to care about the characters of the book. But i love the book within a book theme- even though there are all animal based dishes and some vegan mocking- i could get to the gist and enjoy the idea. I did ultimately enjoy the characters by the end and am glad i read it. Good choice @julieclair

julieclair Glad you ended up liking it. I‘m not quite finished yet, but I agree that it took awhile for the characters to grow on me. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks I obviously had some mixed feelings as well 😂 Are we still on for Powder & Patch in March? Would you like to set up the Readalong on SG? 1mo
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I‘m in for March. Still have to add to Story Graph for discussion. I‘m getting used to it- but am still adjusting to format. It has its advantages. what does everyone think? @julieclair @mabell 1mo
See All 14 Comments
julieclair I think I like the old LMPBC format better. I miss seeing everyone‘s handwritten comments in the margins. Plus, I love getting book mail. 📚💙📚 But if everyone else prefers this format, I‘m fine with that too. I love our group, no matter how we connect! @mabell @TheAromaofBooks 1mo
Chrissyreadit @julieclair as long as there is no stress if i‘m a week or 2 late sometimes mailing i like mail too- but i realize i‘m often not timely 1mo
mabell I‘m fine with either format. I‘ll get the read along set up for Powder and Patch. @julieclair @Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks 1mo
mabell @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit I should have asked first if everyone would like to switch back to a physical book rather than finish this round using the readalongs. If so, I can read this and send it on and Sarah could read Wind in the Willows and pass it on? 1mo
TheAromaofBooks Sorry @mabell for some reason I was thinking P&P was Chrissy's book!! I enjoy both formats for different reasons - it's fun to be able to read comments and interact with them, but I end up getting a more choppy reading experience because I have to stop reading every time I want to make a note/comment, if that makes sense. So overall I think I do prefer mailing. However, if @julieclair and Chrissy are good with it, we could finish this round with ⬇ 1mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) SG and then decide what we want to do for the next round? 1mo
julieclair I think we should finish this round with SG, and then decide what we want to do for the next round. @mabell @TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit 1mo
Chrissyreadit @mabell @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks I‘m happy to finish this round on SG then go back to mail. 1mo

I had to get this cookbook after seeing @Nan2 ‘s pictures of the contents. This was my first recipe from it. So far, pretty good- it‘s smoky lentil tomato soup in my opinion. One day i‘m going to get a bread maker to make healthy minimally processed bread to go with my soups. #mtcookbook

Tamra @Chrissyreadit it‘s a Hamilton Beach, but I can‘t tell you the model bc I bought it at a thrift store all but brand new for $25. Late to the game but so interested in this- and how feminism is often portrayed as a negative where i live.

https://www.idrlabs.com/feminist-perspectives/test.php
just saw on @TieDyeDude ‘s page and then the bunny trail of everyone else who took it. Women‘s History Month is March- and good recommendations on modern feminist movements?

ElizaMarie Ours are very similar - I am posting now 1mo
IndoorDame If by modern you mean 4th wave and not some more specific term I‘m not familiar with, then my own renewed interest in feminism is due to a book club reading Good and Mad 7ish years ago. It turned into a consciousness raising session, and sparked me down a path that inspired lots of other reading. It does focus too much on white women, but it‘s an easy read for nonfiction, and the author‘s passion really comes through. 1mo

I highly recommend this book to People with ADHD, people with children with ADHD, people who are curious about neurodivergence and ADHD, counselors, teachers, medical professionals, friends of people with ADHD, coaches…. It is fairly succinct. Informative. Strategy and Solution focused, validating and science based.
When I taught a special education class in CO I was very lucky- the principal let me use my methods- my way. One of the most

Chrissyreadit important things i did was start every day with a run/walk- kids who ran came with me, kids who walked with my side. The results of progress for my class were significant and acknowledged at the County level- with All kids benefit from movement and outside time when possible. My greatest moments of anxiety and depression- after days of limited mobility- If there is one thing i would change in our education system it would be more time for 1mo

Im so glad I read/listened to this book. I thought it had several interesting parts i had not heard about such as the experiment in the early 1900‘s with infants and toddlers and food, and the Nestle Barge in South America. But most of all it reinspired me to remember that there is a way to feel better, and that my brain and body are being hijacked by ultra capitalist companies. I love the “was this made to nourish me or make money for someone “

I just feel this. I want to understand why life feels so brutally exhausting. We are not living in the worst of times. But perhaps the most disconnected? I don‘t know the answer but there is something that feels out of reach in “fixing” this. #naturalitsy #midwintersolacebuddyread

Bookwomble There's a clear process of social atomisation in Western societies, a tendency to promote "self reliance" which is actually a tendency towards alienation. When people seek like-minded people it's criticised as "identity politics" unless the group meets strictly policed cultural criteria, but humans have a deep need for connection & acceptance, & will come together. Without being too precious about it, I think Litsy is a place where that happens ? 2mo

Tonight is #hyggehoureadathon wherever you are in the world! We are close to the end of #midwintersolace and I have really enjoyed seeing the cozy reading spaces and moments shared with all of us in community 🩵🤍🩵 I‘m glad we did this through January as I‘m realizing it does not have as much to anticipate and is Cold. and Bare. #naturalitsy

slategreyskies I haven‘t been participating, but I too have loved seeing the posts for this. They‘ve been very comforting! 📚🤍 2mo
Bookwormjillk I agree. It‘s been very meaningful to continue this practice in January. 2mo
Avanders Oh I totally did this today! But I forgot to take pics, so joining in spirit ☺️💙 2mo

Listening to the audio for the #naturalitsy buddy read and this comment jumped at me: “Was the food made to nourish you, or was the food made to make money for a group of people?” I know there would be nuances to this- but there can also be some clear cases of items labeled food that really should not be sold or eaten but are.

IndoorDame I thought about that idea too because most of the UPC I eat is genuinely both, but every so often I reach for something that‘s what my mother would have called junk food and those things were always only business ventures 2mo
Chrissyreadit @IndoorDame yes! And i genuinely wonder how much the change in what is eaten has impacted health in many ways- and am not disregarding the need for processing. 2mo
Kenyazero That sounds like a really solid question to ask while at the store. I‘m definitely going to hang onto that. 2mo

Tamra Great reflective question! How does the author define “ultra processed” food? 2mo
Tamra Right now I‘m also concerned about the microplastics in food, given just opening a bag distributed particles in the air & on/in food. I‘ve been reducing plastic at home for a long time, but it‘s nearly impossible at the grocery store! 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly That is an excellent question. I‘ll be pondering that one. 2mo
