1. Two books for #Bookspin, and one for #LPMBC. Finish Islands of abandonment. Finish an ARC for #NGGSummerSmashup.

2. I'm choosing the tagged book. It isn't without problems, but it made me think.

3. Jack McDevitt's Octavia Gone. Not awful, but I'm over this series.

PLEASE READ

With only a few days left, #LMPBC Round 18 only has three full groups. That‘s fine, but it won‘t work, unless there are at least three people in a group. Therefore, I am asking everyone to consider “expanding your literary horizons” and move your sign up into a group that already has a member(s). I‘ve already moved mine into Group E which is intended to be a mish-mash of several genres. Please, help fill up some groups!!!

5feet.of.fury I was only going to do 1 group this time, but you talked me into it 😂 (edited) 10mo
suvata @5feet.of.fury great! I‘m not usually that persuasive.😎 10mo
LaraReads @BethM @Hazel2019 Do you think we could somehow combine Romance & Dystopian Fiction? I‘m down for whatever. 10mo

suvata @LaraReads That actually sounds pretty cool. I hope people sign up for that. 10mo

Well, I have done a terrible job posting reviews this week, but let the #BookReport reflect that I HAVE been reading! 😂 I finished Shelter in Place, The Provincial Lady in London, and The Horse-Tamer towards the beginning of the week (for #TrappedonanIsland, #LPMBC, and #Roll100 respectively lol), then threw myself in the #BacklistReadathon. Only one and half books left in the Chesapeake Shores series!! They have definitely been a mixed bag ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd)(I couldn't STAND the main character in The Christmas Bouquet - what a BRAT) but on the whole they've been pretty standard fare. Shelter in Place was a bit intense - I did enjoy it but I don't think I would reread it. Provincial Lady was fun but not AS fun as the first book. The Horse-Tamer is a childhood reread & actually one of my favorite Walter Farley books. All in all a solid week, checking off some challenges and #SeriesLove2023 too! 14mo

TheAromaofBooks @rockpools @BkClubCare - Thanks!! I'm trying to keep it more under control this year, but you can see how that's going 😂 14mo
Andrew65 I‘m terrible at reviews, always way behind 😆 14mo

Singout WW is one of my all-time favorites, assigned to me for two courses, (the common reference novel in feminist critical analysis, and ones of many in race, gender, class, and sexual diversity in modern American novels back in the 90s. It‘s been a while, but I remember really powerful themes about multiple generations, immigration, Chinese and Chinese American culture, gender issues, and mythology. 14mo
TheBookHippie @Singout I read feminist literature and WWII constantly as well!!! How wonderful we have that in common as well! 14mo
Pogue I have read none of these and am open to all of them. 14mo
Singout I meant Woman Warrior, but maybe the war was in there? Can‘t remember any more! 14mo
Readergrrl I have read WW too, but that doesn‘t mean I wouldn‘t read it again. They all sound interesting, so I‘m open to any of them!! Boy, this group has some interesting suggestions! I‘ll get my list together asap. I‘m not at home right now. 14mo
vonnie862 Oh man...I had to think this over night because these all sound good. So I relied on "eeny miny moe" and got Sleepless Nights. ? Whichever you pick will be good. 14mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 I was thinking Sleepless Nights as well! I think we will go with that ! 14mo

Thank you, @psalva for introducing our #LPMBC to this author and series. I was pretty immediately drawn in by the intense, passionate voice. The writing, characters, and themes are so compelling, to say nothing of the murder he‘s investigating. Benjamin Justice is troubled, fierce, empathetic, and righteous. I‘d like to read more. 🕵️‍♀️

Ugh I‘m so conflicted with this one. I honestly got to the point where the catty behavior of the FMC got to the point where it was too much. And the insta one min I loath you the next min we‘re supposed to believe they cared for each other was just too random for me. #LPMBC #littensloveromance ⭐️⭐️ read

Julsmarshall I bailed on this one, I wanted to like it but felt the same way. 2y

Harlem Shuffle: A Novel | Colson Whitehead

Pickpick

I went into this #LPMBC #GroupB choice with very low expectations. I had already bailed on the audiobook, but I was very pleasantly surprised to love it in print! Ray Carney is just the kind of morally ambiguous character I like, and Whitehead‘s descriptive writing just added to the fun. Definitely a pick! #botm

marleed I first experienced this an audio and was sort of meh on it. Then it was the a bookclub pick with my host super excited about it. I didn‘t want to be a bookclub-pooper so I watched a couple author interviews and reread it. I really liked it the second time through! 2y
marleed Oh I heard him respond he is going back to Harlem from the personification one of the other characters. I forget which one, Pepper maybe. 2y
Megabooks @marleed Pepper was my favorite character, so that‘s quite exciting! Funny how some books work better in each medium. 2y
