Pickpick

📚I had mistakenly believed that this book held a collection of stories inspired by my Ancestral World. What frightened my ancestors and what has seeped from my Ancestral World into modern times.

This had some of what I expected, but it's mostly a mixed bag.

Nonetheless, this Indigenous anthology was really good.

There are stories of horror, spiritual, spooky, monster, racism, thriller, strangeness

👇🏼

AnnCrystal Some stories have scenes of gore or violence, including hunting (animal & human). I was upset that there wasn't a warning for the story on page 283 (which I skipped)...it starts with a sexual assault of a child.

I skipped reading only a handful of stories, some stories I skimmed, but I was actually able to read through most of this collection.

Out of 26 stories, there were only 11 that I either didn't like or wouldn't read.

AnnCrystal The one that stood above the reallly good stories, was Hunger by Phoenix Boudreau. I was impressed with the story, then became even more impressed upon learning that this writer is previously unpublished. I look forward to reading more by Phoenix Boudreau. Five🌟💝.

AnnCrystal The one story that truly left me “wanting more,“ was only because it felt unfinished in the way that this short story ended with a cliffhanger.

Behind Colin's Eyes by Shane Hawk. This was the only story I yelled at, “Wait, that's it?!?“ because I wanted to see how the modern day tribal people would deal with this ancient threat. So mean 😂.

Happy Indigenous People‘s Day. The map of WV lands courtesy of an interactive map on savetheboundarywaters.com . Braiding Sweetgrass is a non fiction book I love and thanks to #lpmbc I read Love After The End- a book I absolutely loved and recommend. The third book was read by a local book club and recommended so i bought it this weekend. Please consider sharing your favorite books by Indiginous authors #Indiginouspeoplesday

By acknowledging Monday, October 13, 2025 as Indigenous Peoples' Day, you recognize and honor the strength and resilience of Indigenous Americans...past, present, and future.

✊🏼🦅🌟❤️🤍💙.

dabbe There's no other day on my calendar. 🧡💜💛 4d
GingerAntics @dabbe same! It‘s actually not celebrated nationally. It‘s not a national holiday. 4d

CBee I don‘t celebrate Columbus. Not one bit. Blessed Indigenous People‘s Day, Ann 💚 4d
GingerAntics @dabbe no, Columbus Day is no longer celebrated everywhere in the states. Many cities and states are celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day instead. It‘s still technically a national holiday, but it‘s not celebrated nationally… if that makes sense. Honestly, this is a MAGA holiday now, basically. 4d
ncsufoxes I grew up in NJ & it was a holiday. When we lived in San Diego it was not a holiday (but we had Cesar Chavez Day). But when we lived in Boston it was a school holiday. My oldest goes to the University of Rhode Island & he doesn‘t have classes tomorrow. But now in MD they don‘t celebrate it. I‘ve never been a fan of Columbus & now that I‘ve learned what really happened, it‘s not someone we acknowledge or speak highly of. 4d
AnnCrystal Thank You @CBee ✊🏼🫂😘💚💚💚. 4d
AnnCrystal 🥲@GingerAntics & 😘@ncsufoxes true.

Thankfully, LA, CA seems to be mostly celebrating, Indigenous Peoples' Day.

We also have “California Native American Day,“ celebrated annually on the fourth Friday of September.

Cesar Chavez Day

Zoot Suit Heritage Week in Los Angeles, which is officially observed from June 3–9 each year, commemorating the 1943 Zoot Suit Riots.

Just learned that CA officially honors August as Chicano Heritage Month!

AnnCrystal Nationally, there is Mexican Heritage Month Sep 15, 2025 – Oct 15, and Native American Heritage Month which is coming up in November.

🤔 My apologies, I kinda gave a mixed celebration calendar for American Indigenous and Chicana here 🤗.

😘🫂🥳💃💝💝💝.
