Thanks to @Andrea313 for this #BlameItOnLitsy success! I really enjoyed these deep dives into Sondheim's works, especially when I disagreed with the author. 😂 (He is just so wrong about the Baker's Wife, I mean seriously!) I'm not familiar with Sondheim's later musicals but enjoyed the chapters nonetheless. The audiobook is a pleasant listen.

Fully embracing the gift of books this year for my family 🥰 I found something for everyone!! I‘m so excited for my grandmother‘s gift though (bottom right), I found affordable and gently used large print copies of some books I know she hasn‘t read yet 😍 And my Aunt told me she wants to get into reading again so I‘m setting her up with a mini book haul (top right). Ho Ho Ho and to all a good night (of reading!!) 🎅🏼🛷

Pet is about that stage of life of a young girl when you‘re trying to fit in but also be special and chosen. It‘s about idolizing someone, betrayal, and darker sides of growing up. There‘s also lots of grief (loss of a parent) that I was unprepared for. Racism also plays a part in this story. This teacher-student dynamic is memorable and nothing beats this cover! I‘ve GOT to read Chidgey‘s others. #blameitonlitsy you all were right!

This was a delight! It‘s been on my shelves for years, and a #blameitonLitsy trifecta prompted me to read it: I put it in my #192025 lineup for 1972, @TheAromaofBooks spotted it on my #BookSpin list & suggested a casual buddy read, then it landed as my August #BookSpin…clearly, it was meant to be!

Herriot‘s descriptions of the Yorkshire countryside make me long for England (admittedly, it doesn‘t take much to trigger that longing in me!). ⤵️

Here are 3 5-star mysteries that I‘ve recently loved! The Alexander is a 2nd in series; the Simpson is 14th (!) in series; the Messina is 1st in series (and recommended by @DGRachel …thank you, Rachel! 😘).

Picked up my pre-order book (tagged) for September from Riverbend Bookshop. Could not resist John Boyne‘s new book. #preorderbookclub #blameitonlitsy #porchlife

Book mail! I know this was a #blameitonlitsy, but I don't remember for sure who exactly tempted me. (Maybe it was @DebinHawaii ?) But oh, man, is this book sweet! I almost feel like skipping the concert I have tickets for tonight to just sit and leaf through the pretty papers and paper-related items in here! (Almost...I think I'll still go to the concert and save this book and my others for tomorrow.)

A whimsical middle grade story that turns out to have a lot of heart. Image is from a letter my mom wrote (urging the Gov. to sign protections for trans Californians) on my ancient typewriter, Goliath. She couldn't bear to part with it; I know she'll love this book.
