Treating myself and daughter to pedicures while we read our books. Busy weeks ahead of us as she finishes her undergraduate classes before graduation and work is going crazy for me. Son is still sound asleep from the long trek home from his university in northern Arizona for the summer.

#Read2025

I‘m catching up on my April reviews this weekend & I loved this book! A good thing as it was a trifecta of challenge prompts: #AuthorAMonth #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead & one of the books from @JacqMac ‘s #AuldLangSpine list. This is my third Kate Quinn book & maybe my favorite. The audiobook was stellar & I finished & listened to the author notes twice + an interview with the author & narrator who really brought the characters to life. ⬇️

DebinHawaii … I learned a lot about the Red Scare, McCarthy & Washington DC in the era. The mystery was good as was the ways the characters were introduced & their layers uncovered. I also enjoyed the sentient Briar House & the communal dinners with recipes & music selection of the times included. It kept me engrossed during lots of airport commutes in April & will likely be a favorite of the year for me. 17h

CatLass007 I love this group! I have met so many new-to-me authors. It‘s finally given me the impetus to read books by Roxane Gay and Leigh Bardugo that I already own. And Kate Quinn has become a new “must buy” author. 2d
Jess This is the month I‘m most looking forward to! I have 4 of his books on my shelves and hope to get to all of them. So excited. 2d
BarkingMadRead I‘m reading Trees! I also have James on audio, but I don‘t think I‘ll get to it this month 2d
BarbaraJean I‘m hoping to join in this month with at least one Percival Everett! I‘ve been thinking about either Erasure, Telephone, or So Much Blue. 2d
willaful @Amiable That's my plan as well. 2d

So Much Blue: A Novel | Percival Everett

@Soubhiville I hope you are well. I just wanted to let you and the rest of the #AuthorAMonth gang know that the tagged book, So Much Blue, and The Trees, both by May‘s author Percival Everett, are free on Audible. I‘d love to read James but it‘s not free and the hold list is months long. I‘ll get to it when the LIBBY gods smile on me.

Soubhiville I‘ve read 47, and I‘d say my favorites are LOTR, Terry Pratchett‘s, and Watership Down. 3d
dabbe @Soubhiville Good to know! I didn't get around to reading him for #AuthorAMonth, but he is now on my major radar thanks to you! 💙🩵💙 3d

CogsOfEncouragement 43 for this one. So many good ones too. Some I‘ve enjoyed more than once. 3d
CSeydel I got 47. My favorites are probably Rebecca, A Christmas Carol, and Wind in the Willows 3d
CSeydel But Terry Pratchett‘s books are excellent also! He has a way of combining wordplay, satire and fantasy to hilarious effect (edited) 3d

Amiable Again with the Pratchett! 😬 Mine was 39 this week. “A Prayer for Owen Meany” is my favorite book. But I also loved “A Suitable Boy” and “A Town Called Alice.” 3d
dabbe @julesG He must be one of the best writers ever! Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @peaKnit No palm slapping allowed! 😘 I have a feeling my score will be right there in with yours. I don't think I read any from 50-100! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @Amiable All 3 I haven't read but are on the TBR, thanks to you! I agree about Pratchett. I am totally missing something! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
peaKnit Thank you!! I‘d have been in bigger trouble had Harry Potter not rescued me lol! Many on my TBR all the same:) 3d
Amor4Libros 13! 😅 Harry Potter helped me get to double digits 🤣 3d
Lesliereadsalot I read 36 thanks to taking two semesters of Russian novels in college, along with both 18th and 19th century British novels. I did love those Russian novels, long as they were! 3d
TheLudicReader 30. How can I even call myself a reader? 3d
BooksandCoffee4Me @TheLudicReader I feel the same way with 39! I‘m going to rationalize that as an English teacher, I had to read several of these repeatedly which left me with too little reading energy for the others. 😊 3d
Lynnsoprano 25 🙄 Mostly the English classics. I‘m hanging my head 3d
Librarybelle 31 for me. There are a few I am in the middle of, but still, ouch! 3d
dabbe @peaKnit I love how they linked the HP books separately here but only as one book (series) on the American Great Read. More bang for your buck on this list! 🤩 3d
dabbe @Amor4Libros Yay for HP! 😍 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @Lesliereadsalot I bow to your wow. I could NEVER had survived two semesters of Russian novels! 😱 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @TheLudicReader No talk like that, missy! 😘 You are the queen of contemporary literature, and there weren't so many of those on this list. And again, who puts MATILDA alongside WAR AND PEACE? Totally weird list! I bet I score right around where you did. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me 🎯🩵🎯 Usually in my years of teaching English, I was lucky to read 15-20 completely new books all year! I'd constantly have to reread the ones I taught because I had to be ready for those smart kids who would ask me persnickety questions! 🤣😍🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
CSeydel It‘s a very odd list! 3d
dabbe @Lynnsoprano No hanging your lovely head! 😘 I know I'll score around the same! We just have more books for our TBR. Except I don't think I'll add all 30+ Pratchetts and Wilsons! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @Librarybelle I'll be ouchie right there with you! It's a quirky list, to say the least! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @CSeydel 🎯🩵🎯! 3d
rwmg 59 including those started but not finished (looking at you Gabriel García Márquez) and some I know I've read but cannot remember anything beyond the title. 3d
dabbe @rwmg W🤩WZA! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
Amor4Libros @TheLudicReader I got 13! 🤣🤣 3d
dabbe @Amor4Libros Way better than zero! Seriously, though, what a weird list! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d

AnnCrystal Thank You For The Tag 🥳👍🏼📚💝. 3d
AnnCrystal 🤔😂 I've decided to whisper my total instead of shouting it out...1/100 · 1% 🧐🤔🤗.

I have some of these in my bookshelf waiting for me...and I have watched some as movies...

📚💝.

AnnCrystal My three, must read someday: Harry Potter books, the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, and The Christmas Carol ☺️📚💝. (edited) 3d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm at 26 from this list. I hated better than the bottom half of the list. I do have others on my TBR, so it would be interesting to come back in a couple of years to see if I've done better. I really do need to read some Pratchett. Faves here are LOTR trilogy, HP & the Goblet of Fire, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. (I'm surprised by the last one as I'm not a big Sci-Fi fan, but it was accessible. ) 2d
tpixie Hmm 36% 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal YW! 😍 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal You are adorable! I say movie watching counts! It's sometimes hard for me to read a book after I've seen the movie, especially if it closely follows the novel. Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I don't think I read anything on the lower half of the list! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @melissajayne Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @tpixie We're close in our scores! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal Especially A CHRISTMAS CAROL. I reread that one (and see a bunch of movie variations) every year during holiday season. 🎄 2d
Bklover 43! Thanks for the tag @dabbe 🩷 2d
dabbe @Bklover YW! 😍 2d
AnnCrystal @dabbe it is difficult to appreciate a movie that has been separated from the book it came from. I only really had a bit of trouble once, with the movie Valentine's. Tom Savage book version was so much better, although I did enjoy watching david boreanaz 😍😂.

🤩👍🏼💝. We always watch the Christmas Carol movies, every year we try to watch all the different versions that show on TV. Really must read the book! ☺️👍🏼📚🎬💖.

April wrap-up: I finished two books for March #foodandlit #Ireland, then read four books for April #Rwanda (still working on my fifth). I read one book for #authoramonth Kate Quinn (still reading two more), and one book I finished from last month‘s author Leigh Bardugo. And I read Keeping House as an impulse read.

I tagged my favorite book of the month, but it was a close call.

It's been years since I've read Kate Quinn, so I'm very glad #authoramonth had her listed for April. This book had me hooked from the first chapter. I couldn't stop reading. Pixel and I went on extra long dog walks all to give me more time with this audiobook. The ending did not disappoint. Highly recommend to anyone who loves historical fiction.

Karisa I read it with #LiteraryCrew and loved it too! I swear the people around me are tired of me trying to get them to read it. 😅 4d
