The 5th book about Grandma and the 8 children.

This begins as the school year ends and summer starts. The children takes it in turn to look after the cow. And a new road is built through the forest and near the house in the woods.

This basically is just the story of a young single mother, set in the first year after her baby is born. She struggles with combining motherhood and work, she has to redefine her position towards her parents and she meets a man. Nothing much happens but it is so Japanese. It feels like magic.

A twisty and fun thriller. I saw the movie when it first came out and only remembered the bare bones of the story. When Bourne is washed up the shore he has forgotten who he is and what his mission was...he returns to Zurich and his quest to find himself begins. #booked2019 #booktomovie #40thbdaychallenge #1980

I just finished my 1st book of 2019, this tragicomedy set in New Orleans in the 1960s. Ignatius J. Reilly is quite a character, as are several of the others you meet along the way in this story of Ignatius' search for a job and his place in society. Thanks for a great #NewYearWhoDis recommendation @Maria514626 @monalyisha #LitsyAtoZ #C @BookishMarginalia #ReadingClassicsIn2019 #ReadingThroughTheYears192021 #192021 #1980

monalyisha Knocked it out! Way to go! 🙌🏻 5y
Sos Billy Connolly recommended this in his 2 part programme Made in Scotland - will have to read it. 5y
DivineDiana Started this last year. Too many other book commitments got in the way. 🙁 Goal: Finish in 2019! 😉 5y

I just don‘t like slapstick. And Ignatius is pure slapstick. He made me laugh a few times but I preferred the storylines without him (The Levy‘s, Miss Trixie, Mrs Reilly, New Orleans).

I know I am in the minority and I hope I don‘t offend the ones who love him 😍😉, but I think Ignatius is above all an annoying character.

Still, I am glad I got it out of the way. Thanks for organizing the #Dunces buddy read Emily 💜!

britt_brooke He‘s a love/hate for sure. 6y
LeahBergen I knew when I was reading this that others would love it or loathe it - it‘s that sort of book. 6y
ValerieAndBooks But you can now check this off the #1001books list 🤗. I read this about 25 years ago and didn‘t like it. 6y

emilyhaldi Yes totally agree with @LeahBergen sorry it wasn't for you but you tried!! Thanks for joining 😊😊 6y
Mdargusch I loved the book but I strongly dislike Ignatius. 6y
LazyDays He should be slapped. And other times you have to laugh! Because you're sitting there going "How does he think this is true\going to work!?" 6y
Cinfhen You know I bailed...I just couldn‘t take Ignatius either😩 6y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I was glad you couldn‘t 😀 6y
Maria514626 Mrs. Levy is the one who makes me want to throw the book across the room. She is insufferable. 😠 (I still love the book. But Mrs. Levy—NO.) 6y

I have so enjoyed finishing these Unfinished Tales with my #LOTRChapterADay (extended edition) group. Tolkien was a great, and immensely nuanced storyteller, his son Christopher a devoted son and detailed story archiver, whose life work allowed us to see the depth of creativity and true craft his father put into all his tales. I‘ve truly enjoyed the surface tale, and the deeper tale behind its creation and evolution.
