Okay#LMPBC #Round7 #GroupI today was crazy so I'm just now able to post my choices. I'll tag them in the comments as well. 4 contemporary and 2 classics. I'm kind of leaning towards the tagged book, Signs Preceding the End of the World, but let me know what you all prefer!

lele1432 Mexican literature. A young woman must traverse the Mexican-US border to find her brother. (edited) 2w
lele1432 German literature. I was first introduced to Stefan Zweig through another #NYRB title I read for the #NYRBBookClub, Chess Story. I absolutely loved it. My only 5 star read so far this year. So I've been wanting to try another one of his works. 2w
lele1432 Hebrew literature. This one is a mystery concerning a hit-and-run. 2w

lele1432 Another Spanish translation. We decided not to do The Shape of Ruins due to length, but I actually have a copy of this shorter title by the same author. It's intriguing as it deals with a political cartoonist who could ruin politicians' careers with his art. 2w
lele1432 Classic Indian literature. Described as three stories of forbidden love. Tagore received the Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Asian Nobel Laureate according to Amazon. He was also a poet. 2w
lele1432 I've been interested in this title for a while now, but it borders on Argentinian folklore/gothic horror, so probably not for the faint of heart. 2w
Carolyn11215 I‘d love to read Signs Preceding...but would be happy with any of these! 2w
lele1432 @Carolyn11215 okay great! If @rachelm and @aeeklund don't object, I'll go with that one! (edited) 2w
BarbaraBB I bought The Post Office Girl Too because of the #NYRBBookClub! 1w
lele1432 @BarbaraBB I also want Beware of Pity lol. 😊 He was an excellent author. (edited) 1w

#FallIsBooked Day 4: #Bonfire reminded me of this #NYRB title I bought during the one-day sale last year.

A visit to The Tall Girl at college also means a visit to my favorite used book store. 2 #ModernLibrary 2 #NYRB 2 Jane Gardams and a Muriel Spark! Plus a book of pieces on writer‘s favorite books. I made out very well today.

#7Days7Covers Day 2

@sisilia, you may be the only person not playing yet. 7 days, 7 covers you love, no explanation. Try to tag someone new each day.

sisilia 😆 Ok 👍🏻 Thanks, Liz! 1mo
BarbaraBB What a weird cover! It doesn‘t seem to have anything in common with the story itself?! 1mo
BarbaraBB @sisilia Looking forward to some #nyrb covers 😉 1mo

Books read by publication year 😍 Thanks to #nyrb I have more diverse reading experience now

CarolynM That's an interesting graph. I wonder what mine would look like? I wouldn't be able to do it, I'd never be able to remember when I read what. 1mo
sisilia I got this from Goodreads. They are pretty good with stats 👍🏻 @CarolynM 1mo

Oh no 🙈! Dropped off some books today at the used bookstore and discovered all history and biographies are 50% off in September. My kryptonite. I‘ll have to try to stay away all month. But used bookstores don‘t often have women‘s history so maybe if I tell myself that‘s only what I‘ll buy if I weaken and go back?!

Pleased to find Jefferson and Monticello, as we just visited there!

The #nyrb fiction (top) was at their regular price ($4) 😊.

LeahBergen What a great haul. 👍🏻 2mo

The Other | Thomas Tryon

After checking the votes numerous times, I can safely say that Tryon's book is the #NYRBBookClub selection for October. Thanks to @LeahBergen for varied & fascinating nominations. I believe this is the second month so far where the winning book has only had one more vote. In the future, if we end up with a tie for first, then the person who nominated the book will vote as tie-breaker. Thanks to everyone for another successful round of voting!

sprainedbrain Yay for a creepy book for October! 🖤 2mo
vivastory @sprainedbrain It's a good one! 2mo

merelybookish Can we add another person to the club? (Not to choose books but to read.) 2mo
vivastory @merelybookish Yeah. Anyone can join in with the discussions, they just can't vote. 2mo

BarbaraBB Thanks @LeahBergen for the fab picks. I already ordered the Hamilton too 😀 2mo
LeahBergen @BarbaraBB It sounds good, doesn‘t it? 😄 2mo
LeahBergen @vivastory I last checked the totals this morning and then I was out all day. 😆😆 It was a close one! I wasn‘t sure if we were to vote on our own picks or not? 🤔 2mo
BarbaraBB @LeahBergen I don‘t think so. Did you? 2mo
LeahBergen @BarbaraBB I didn‘t (but then I wondered if we should in the event of a tie 🤷🏻‍♀️). 2mo
BarbaraBB That‘s smart! It would be a perfect solution in that case, don‘t you think Scott? 2mo
sisilia I ordered all three books @LeahBergen @vivastory @BarbaraBB 🙈 2mo
Liz_M Yay! 2mo
Billypar Is it too late to join NYRB bookclub? I've been having such reading envy of your picks and the discussions that follow. Thanks in advance! 🤞🤞 @mklong 2mo
vivastory @Billypar It's open to anyone who wants to read along & join in the discussion. But the selection & voting is for the current members. I will open it back up for new members once we go through the current round. 2mo
vivastory @BarbaraBB @LeahBergen The person who nominated the books doesn't vote, but if there's a tie then they can vote. 2mo
Billypar Great, thanks! Looking forward to it ☺️ 2mo
LeahBergen @vivastory Ahh, yes. I thought so! 👍🏻 2mo
LeahBergen @sisilia You did? 😆😆👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
emilyhaldi Very excited about this one 🤗 I already own it but I placed a new #NYRB order anyways to nab the Hamilton as well 😅 @LeahBergen (edited) 2mo
rubyslippersreads I know I read this years ago, and I vaguely remember a movie. But like @emilyhaldi I got the Hamilton too. 😊 2mo

4⭐️ Escaped from a mental hospital, hopped on a train/walked/hitched a ride to NYC. How‘s that for an adventure? And that‘s only the start of this book. I‘m not a big fan of the writing style, but I love this tender story about self-proclaimed-insane Harriet paving her way to healing and self-acceptance 💞

4⭐️ This novel is deliciously wicked! Sleek and smooth, like a glass of Hibiki 21 🥃 I used to read a lot of crime fictions; most are thrilling and gruesome, but none has the same quality as this old crime noir. The writing is wonderful, and the humor definitely helps the overall tone of the book.

Thank you for the pick, @mklong @vivastory Now I‘m going to check the discussion posts 😆 #nyrbbookclub #nyrb #nyrbclassics
