From the New York Times bestselling author of The Guest List comes a new locked room mystery, set in a Paris apartment building in which every resident has something to hide... Jess needs a fresh start. She's broke and alone, and she's just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn't sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn't say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up - to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? - he's not there. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother's situation, and the more questions she has. Ben's neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it's starting to look like it's Ben's future that's in question. The socialite - The nice guy - The alcoholic - The girl on the verge - The concierge Everyone's a neighbor. Everyone's a suspect. And everyone knows something they're not telling.

I read through this one really fast. I am not typically a thriller/ mystery type reader, but this one had me hooked.
There were times I neglected life (and maybe even working 😜) to read.
I know many of you have read other Foley books, and say this one is not as good, but I don't have anything to compare to, so I give it 4 stars. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

cwarnier @AllureofBeauty I will mail this off in the next few days, I know it is way early, but I don't wan to loose it and forget about it.

Another good thriller from Lucy Foley, this time set in Paris. The characters are not really nice at all. A good twist at the end, but not one of my favourites from her.

I always love choosing new books for my #bookspin list each month. I don't know why, because I have not been very good at reading my bookspin or #doublespin book anyways. I have only made 5 of them this year so far.
Anyways here is my August list!

I really enjoyed this one! There were lots of twists and turns, some were easy to see coming, some were not. I love the way Foley writes her characters to give them all motive and opportunity to keep you guessing throughout the whole book. And there were many mysteries to solve!

I enjoyed this Lucy Foley novel. The main character was pretty reckless, which, at moments, got a little annoying. But overall it was a great mystery to read. The plot twist was totally unexpected as well! There were some things that I ended up predicting happening but that's part of why I enjoy reading mysteries!

I‘m really loving Lucy Foley‘s books! This is only the second one I‘ve read and she continues to impress me! Looking forward to reading more of her work.

marleed It is fun when an author is new to you and there‘s a lengthy catalog awaiting to be read vs always waiting for the new release of an already auto read author! 2w

Towards the end it picked up for me, but I found the beginning half a little meh. I read this as a buddy read with my dad, which was fun, but I might have bailed otherwise. My favorite by this author remains The Hunting Party.

brittanythebookdragon I read The Guest List by this author and it really just kind of turned me off from wanting to read anything else written by her…I feel justified that another book was given a So-So rating. 3w
LiteraryinLawrence @brittanythebookdragon Yeah, I don‘t think I‘ll read others by her in the future. There are so many awesome thriller writers out there! 3w

This started well, intriguing enough but the suspense falters, and overall it lacks the tension and dread I was expecting. Also, I felt there wasn‘t a distinct difference in the voice of various POVs. I was entertained by some parts of it though. Maybe this book and I are not a good fit because there‘re others who loved it.

Ruthiella I read The Hunting Party by Foley and also wasn‘t overly impressed. It was fine. 1mo

This is the third book of hers I have read. For some reason, she doesn‘t resonate with me. The Paris Apartment starts with a sister arriving in Paris to visit her brother, but he has disappeared and there is blood. To say more would reveal too much. I didn‘t buy this story, even when it was intense. 2/5

Finished this one last night. I may have read it in a day, because I‘m still really jet lagged and couldn‘t do much of anything else.

This mystery was interesting, even though I guessed most of the twists. I‘m not sure how I did, but I did. It doesn‘t happen often, so I don‘t actually like when I do. Makes me think it‘s too simple. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But this was a quick read, not too many characters to have to remember which was nice.

I listened to The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. A sister finds her brother missing when she goes to stay at his place in Paris. Everyone seems suspicious in this dark mystery. The characters weren't flat; neither were they compelling. Overhyped, but okay.

After being disappointed in The Guest List, I was a tad apprehensive about this being my book club‘s May selection. However, I ended up really enjoying this one — another fun setting but the layering of clues and misdirects and reveals felt more sophisticated and well-paced. Did want to break out my editing pen a few times though…

The apartment house has a full cast of characters, an alcoholic, a nice guy, a socialite, a young girl who seems to be losing it and the concierge who knows all. More of a pick than not. The structure was ambitious, the characters were ok but the plot and mystery was good. I enjoy Lucy Foley‘s stories and the setting was very creepy here. Jess was ok but the rest were a little unbelievable. I think we maybe would have been more vested if we knew more about brother, Ben!

I wasn't really a fan of any of the characters. After each twist, I felt pretty indifferent. It wasn't a bad book, just not all that captivating. Especially as a thriller. I LOVED the Guest List, but this one just didn't do it for me.
