There‘s something about the stillness of January that makes it perfect for a contemplative read. The author has a PhD in Philosophy, and while this is an intellectual story, it‘s also completely absorbing and wholly distinctive. It infiltrated my thoughts… I kept thinking about it when I wasn‘t reading, and it‘s still haunting me after finishing the last page. #BOTM #botmbacklist #botmbacklog
Forever chugging through my #botmbacklog and I greatly enjoyed this one. B/w Caste and The Warmth of Other Suns, Isabel Wilkerson has taught me much about America. I agree with the criticism that this one is a bit light on the research and I felt the rawness of post-2016 election night throughout, but a timely, well-written project that compares America's caste system to that of India and the Third Reich is worth consideration.
Trying to catch up on my #BOTMBacklog (and the annual #BOTMChallenge) before the 12/26 deadline! This debut novel, set in 1995 Lansing, MI makes for a a quick and compelling read! On the cusp of turning eleven, narrator KB and her older sister Nia spend the summer with their Granddaddy in this coming-of-age story. I loved the many references to Anne of Green Gables and KB‘s insatiable curiosity. It touches on some heavy topics but handled well!
Though not my favorite of Foley‘s mysteries, I appreciated the setting here of this grand Parisian building brimming full of secrets. Jess arrives to find her older half brother missing from the address he gave her with only an abrupt voice note as a clue. Short chapters help manufacture the quick pace as each resident‘s secrets emerge. I wish I felt more invested in the characters— though the plot does hold some genuine surprises! #BOTMBacklog
Okeydokey, #TeamReindeerGamers! I‘m ready to share my #DecemberTBR! It‘s not really in order and there are some extra audiobooks not listed here, but ideally, I would like to read this list comprising mainly of #NetGalleyARCs and my #BOTMBacklog! #WinterGames @LiseWorks @Bluebird @aperfectmjk @MatchlessMarie @Karons1 @JessClark78 @kezzlou85 @annahenke
Wowza!! I just loved this #BOTMBacklog thriller! When Emma posts a one-star review, she never suspects that her past 3 months of isolation on the WA coast will come to a violent end. I feel like I read this in one breathless sitting! Part cautionary tale, part dark comedy, I laughed, gasped & was rewarded with the satisfaction of having been right all along! There are some other surprises, though & I really loved it— though dare you say otherwise?
Catching up on some #BOTMBacklog before the end of the year, this thriller makes for a quick read. With a past and present storyline, Cassidy mostly narrates this tale of the group of surviving students who made it out of a terrible accident. For the past decade, they have reunited on the Outer Banks but this year it‘s clear that something more is going on and secrets are spilling out. It moves a bit slowly at first but then picks up by the end!
Finally picking this up after sitting on my shelves forever. I'm excited to mark this all up with @BeckyWithTheGoodBooks & @BarkingMadRead ! #lmpbc #botmbacklog 😊
