Morning Star
Morning Star: Book III of The Red Rising Trilogy | Pierce Brown
Red Rising thrilled readers and announced the presence of a talented new author. Golden Sonchanged the game and took the story of Darrow to the next level. Now comes the exhilarating conclusion to the Red Rising Trilogy: Morning Star.Darrow would have lived in peace, but his enemies brought him war. The Gold overlords demanded his obedience, hanged his wife, and enslaved his people. But Darrow is determined to fight back. Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Societys mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within. Finally, the time has come. But devotion to honor and hunger for vengeance run deep on both sides. Darrow and his comrades-in-arms face powerful enemies without scruple or mercy. Among them are some Darrow once considered friends. To win, Darrow will need to inspire those shackled in darkness to break their chains, unmake the world their cruel masters have built, and claim a destiny too long deniedand too glorious to surrender.Advance praise for Morning Star Multilayered and seething with characters who exist in a shadow world between history and myth, much as in Frank Herberts Dune . . . an ambitious and satisfying conclusion to a monumental saga.Kirkus Reviews Praise for Pierce Brown and the Red Rising Trilogy Red Rising [A] spectacular adventure . . . one heart-pounding ride . . . Pierce Browns dizzyingly good debut novel evokes The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, and Enders Game. . . . [Red Rising] has everything it needs to become meteoric.Entertainment Weekly [A] top-notch debut novel . . . Red Rising ascends above a crowded dystopian field.USA Today Pierce Brown has done an astounding job at delivering a powerful piece of literature that will definitely make a mark in the minds of readers. The Huffington Post Golden Son Brown writes layered, flawed characters . . . but plot is his most breathtaking strength. . . . Every action seems to flow into the next.NPR In a word, Golden Son is stunning. Among science fiction fans, it should be a shoo-in for book of the year.Tor.com The jaw-dropper of an ending will leave readers hungry for the conclusion to Browns wholly original, completely thrilling saga.Booklist (starred review)From the Hardcover edition.

Wow! Taken me two weekends but what a big and wonderful story. So may things I could mention but can‘t leave any spoilers. I strongly urge people to read this brilliant trilogy, but do allow a good chunk of time to read the books so that you can savour and get lost in the story and world Pierce Brown has created. Best read of the year. ❤️
Now up to 17hours 39 minutes in the #24B4Monday Readathon.

Dragonfairykats There's actually 5 books. 5mo
Andrew65 Was it originally planned as a trilogy? Thanks for alerting me to that. 😊 Do you know if more are planned or will 5 books be the end of the Red Rising story? (edited) 5mo
DGRachel Morning Star is the end of the original trilogy. There is a second trilogy that starts 10 years after the events of MS. The first book is Iron Gold, the second (Dark Age) releases on July 30th. 5mo
See All 17 Comments
DGRachel The scope of the second trilogy is even bigger than the first as Pierce switches from exclusively Darrow‘s first person POV to multiple POV chapters (four in Iron Gold and I think 5 or 6 in Dark Age but I don‘t know for sure yet). No idea when book three will come out. Dark Age was delayed more than a year. I preordered it in Oct/Nov 2017... 5mo
DGRachel Dark Age is also the longest of the five books so far, according to Pierce. It‘s going to be a beast of a book and it‘s going to emotionally destroy the fandom. I am simultaneously terrified and excited. 5mo
TrishB I haven‘t started the second set yet, I have Iron Gold, maybe I‘ll start when Dark Age is released! @DGRachel 5mo
MellieAntoinette So glad you loved it. I‘m holding off on Iron Star so that I‘m closer to Dark Age‘s release! Love this series so much! 5mo

This book was amazing!! I really enjoyed it. It kept me interested throughout, and I couldn‘t read it fast enough. I kept wanting to see what direction the plot would go, and there were some major twists that I really didn‘t see coming. Overall, it was a great read with lots of excitement, touching moments, and thrills.

A short captivity, a rift in the troops, a change in leadership, a couple of badass wicked deaths (Sit down, R! Not yours.) I‘m even sure there was a lightening bolt, a key and a little old slightly bald man in there somewhere, but I can‘t be sure! 😉

In short, it‘s brilliant! Onto Iron Gold, but I‘m watching you Cassius, like Jack Byrnes to Greg Focker!

Offense #2: Cassius au Bellona...that incendiary little man. Pick a side, yo! You‘re like New York in Philadelphia, constantly abstaining at the courteous end of a broadsword against your enemy‘s throat. Everyone is not the enemy! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don‘t believe me? Ask Antonia and Aja!!

Don‘t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy this series, BUT... why does so much stuff happen “off the page.” I know we‘re in Darrow‘s POV, but so many battles get skipped, and he keeps big secrets even from the reader. We are IN HIS HEAD. I know it‘s in the interest of exciting twists, but a lot of times it‘s frustrating. Not enough to quit reading on though 😛.

The first time I tried to read this series, I abandoned it pretty damned fast because it rests on the Inspirational Dead Wife trope and y'all know I hate that. I gave it another go on audio and ended up loving it despite its faults, and I'm pleased to report it also rereads very well.

This finale is packed with all the series' best bits: high emotion, daring rescues, space battles, and people who want to do and be BETTER. I loved it.

xicanti I'm SO GLAD Litsy's got spoiler tagging, too, because I can finally talk about my favourite part of the ending; ie, how it's straight out of the CW playbook! Someone has an evil twin, someone fakes their own death, someone has a Secret Baby, and someone pretends to be evil. YAY FUN TROPES! More of this; less Inspirational Dead Wives. 13mo
