The Wicked King | Holly Black

This was a much better installment than the first book. There's court intrigue, explosions, fights, and oh so many secrets. I greatly enjoyed the Carden of this book compared to the first. I kind of wish the author had given us a few chapters from his perspective so I could get more inside his head.

This book has some serious weak points but the strong points are well done. Jude sometimes really bothered me and I absolutely HATE how her relationship with Madoc is portrayed. I feel like the author made a mistake not taking advantage of a very obvious storyline there.

I honestly don't understand why this book is so popular. It's the worst parts of Pretty Little Liars blended into the worst parts of Serial all with a main character who would have been shot by page 100 had she pulled any of this crap in real life. I had to DNF when I started grinding my teeth in frustration.

It took me a while to really get into this book. For some reason, the middle seemed to really drag for me but the ending alone made the whole book worth the read.

This book was a real ride for me. Depending on what little twist I was on I just knew I would either love it or hate it. I ended on really loving it. Although, of the large cast of characters the only person who I truly liked throughout was the drummer, Warren. He came, he drummed, he didn't bother himself with the drama. Rock on Warren, rock on.

I've seen quite a few reviews asking what the point of this book was. I could see the point of the book as a whole but what I didn't get was the point of Nicole. I hated every chapter from her excessively whiney, spoiled POV. This narrative suffered from using the POV of an average teenager and especially one who refuses to remember that she's dealing with Gilead not her own perfect, little world.

It was campy and the fanfiction bits were about as cringy as real fanfiction but that was the whole point of the book. I loved it. 💕

Meh. 😑 Funny in parts and really predictable in others. Also, these thirty-year olds are awfully immature. Just saying.

I feel a little unfair saying I stopped reading because it was boring because I genuinely think others will really like it. But I was bored. There was action and intrigue. None of it made me want to keep reading.

Maya.McClan I hear ya. I thought it started out good but it went down hill from there. 3y

A book I had to finish on audio because the physical writing style was so weird. I liked the story; very knowledgeable and timely.

An old school kind of story that stands the test of time enough to make it to Netflix. Finally took this one off the TBR list when I found out that James Purefoy was playing Hap. Haven't laughed that hard at the inner ramblings of a man in a long time.

When I'm sad or need something to break me out of a reading slump, I go here. It's ridiculous, over the top, and everything I need in a guilty pleasure.

Well, that was emotional. This book did an amazing job of handling some deeply difficult issues while at the same time maintaining a sweetness between the two main characters that I adored.

This was tough and painful, ending with such sweetness. Love these books.

One of the best hard sci-fis you can read. Excuse me while I'm off to join the Rising.

A great mystery with so much emotional impact it left me in tears a couple of times. I recommend the audiobook to get some of that podcast greatness.

This slow burn is going to kill me. I love these two idiots. The cult aspect of this book really hit deep.

Slow burns; hot cops; boy drama; blackmail. What more could I need for a Friday evening? We're chugging along in this slow burn series and I'm loving every second of it.

This second installment had a so-so mystery but the banter and slow burn tension were on point. 😍

Reading this as part of a Christian book club with my mother. It's better than some of the christian fiction I've read but still a little too sanctimonious for more than two stars.

A slow burn I can get behind. It's the beginning of a series and I'm pretty sure I won't see an actual couple until book six but I am hooked!

I listened to the whole thing in a day. A wonderful romance that really hit home for me. Cassie's struggle to gain the respect she deserves in a male dominated profession was just so real and so, so well done.
