I managed to squeeze in more more book in April, and read this yesterday while enjoying a long soak in the bath.

I marked a bunch of fun projects that I will modify to make more stimulating for a middle schooler. Summer planning has begun!

Sweetkokoro I want to join but I‘m worried whoever I get partnered with won‘t like my craft I don‘t sew often or bead or anything, I build robot models while I listen to audiobooks and I‘m just fearful they will hate it. It‘s not a common craft amongst readers I have learned. But this sounds so fun. 5y

Stacy_31 @Sweetkokoro I think that sounds unique! What are they models of? I mean, obviously robots, but are they fashioned after characters or your own creation? 5y

LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro that sounds so awesome and now I want one!! Anything. And you should join. Most of us crafters like to try new things or see new ideas. I love the “tinker” aspect. And I have a ton of spare parts robots pinned on Pinterest and whoever gets matched with you would be a lucky duck. 5y

Sweetkokoro @Stacy_31 @LibrarianRyan they are called Gunpla, they are Japanese Robot models based off of Robot characters from the anime/manga Gundam. They come in many different styles. If you really think people would be interested in it I would love to join, it‘s a fun craft for me, I would love to share it with others. 5y

Stacy_31 Is what we send for our partner to make based on their craft preferences? 6y

LibrarianRyan @Stacy_31 nope. It just needs to be beginner level unless you know the person knows how to do that craft. For example I sent Legos, clay for book marks, and fuse beads in the three I sent. And received a 1 hour scrapbook (they knew I could do that) a wreath, and a zentical books and pens. 6y

LibrarianRyan @Stacy_31 if you look through the first maker swap it ran the gauntlet. Someone received oragami paper and how to book. I believe the person who received a painted portrait of their dog received a beginning paint set. I have card board taxidermy for my next swap partner. 6y

It's #makerswap opening day. I am so excited to see everyone's projects. I'll be checking up and keep tabs throughout the day. I started my day by opening the small parcel I have have for over a month. @CrowCAH made me a personalized library sign. I love it. And the wood cross stitch or dents look like a cross stitch project I would actually finish. Thank you so much!!

julesG Okay. I spend about 3 hours trying to decide what to do for the swap, without putting too much pressure on my match. I mean, I could easily knit a lace shawl and include a kit for another shawl, but what if my match doesn't know how to knit? Soooooooo, I've decided on several easier things that I'll be making, which my match should be able to do without a lot of basic knowledge. 6y

MeganAnn @julesG I would think you could always knit a lace shawl, but then include an easier knitting project for your match to do in case they don‘t know how to knit. I‘m still trying to decide what to make, but I‘m thinking I might do a larger project as a gift with a simpler version kit for them to make also. 6y

mabell @LectricSheep That's what I'm trying to narrow down! I dabble a lot, but there isn't anything that's "my thing." I do a bit of letterpress, but I don't know what my match could make. I'm still giving it some thought. I like yours! Cards would be perfect. ❤️ 6y

mabell @LectricSheep Generally yes, you do need the big press, so mine is a kind of faux letterpress. I made a substitute press with a pasta machine. 😆 6y

julesG I'm still undecided. I make a lot of different things, but knitting is my favourite hobby, besides reading. Just don't think I want to force knitting needles onto someone who hates knitting. @mabell Neat idea! Will have to steal this idea of using a pasta machine. 6y

CSeydel This sounds terrifying! Do you matched with someone who “makes” the same things you make? Or am i going to send someone knitting needles and get watercolors or something in exchange? 😃 6y

LibrarianRyan @CSeydel nope. Not matched with someone who makes what you make. Didn't even ask the question. You could have someone whose an expert at knitting and can whip up a sweater in a day or so, or a novice who took 3 months to make a scarf. I wouldn't want someone to feel inferior to another maker. It's supposed to be about the fun of making. And for the most part the giver will be gifted from another person. 6y

LibrarianRyan @LazyDays actually, you do both. For example, I may send a complicated book I made and then send the supplies to make a card, or small easy scrap book. Plus a book that pulls everything together. Like if I send a scrap booking project I might send the book The Paper Chase. 6y

I picked this up looking for things to keep my little ones busy for Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks because they are always borrrrred. This book is awesome. We haven't done any projects yet but looking through it last night, the supplies are all things I already have around the house.
I run into crafts or science projects that involve things I have to go hunt down and it just ruins it for me. So I love this book just for that already.

Got this for my younger kids. It has cool projects that can be made with stuff you probably already have around the house. We already did the Monster Marshmallow experiment. My 10 yo insisted on repeating it over and over then eating the results. 😄🔬⚗📊
