Good Girl's Guide to Murder
Good Girl's Guide to Murder | Holly Jackson
For readers of Kara Thomas and Karen McManus, an addictive, twisty crime thriller with shades of Serial and Making a Murderer about a closed local murder case that doesn't add up, and a girl who's determined to find the real killer--but not everyone wants her meddling in the past. Everyone in Fairview knows the story. Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town. But she can't shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer? Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn't want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger. This is the story of an investigation turned obsession, full of twists and turns and with an ending you'll never expect. "Fun, gripping, and skillfully constructed." --Emily Arsenault, author of All the Pretty Things

Wow..this book was so cool man. I just couldn't guess till the end who might be the killer. The writing style plays a big role in it.

I don‘t remember who initially told me about this one, but it was a pleasant surprise. While there were some cringe-worthy “what are you thinking?!?” moments, it was a solid story that I enjoyed, and there were a couple twists I didn‘t see coming.

A great book for fans of murder mysteries. While this book isn‘t action-packed, it is faster paced due to the intermittent conflicts and intensity that arise throughout Pippa‘s investigation. And every time you think you‘ve solved the mystery, Holly Jackson will throw another piece of information your way to make you question everything.

A Good Girls Guide to Murder shows us the importance of forming friendships. This novel is about a girl named Pippa and how she re-examines the tragedy that haunts her town. A high school senior Angie Bell was believed to be murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh. Pippa wants to find the truth and prove Sal innocent. She is struck with obstacles and has to find a way around them.

Camryn_VandenBroeke If you like novels that are thrillers and mystery, this is the novel for you. The theme of the novel is friendship, it is present in the novel when Pippa's friends help her to discover the truth. I have not finished the novel, but I am excited and anxious for the ending. 2mo
MissYaremcio Nicely done Camryn! It looks like an interesting read for sure! Let me know how it ends! 6/6 2mo

This was a solid murder mystery with some truly reprehensible characters. To be honest there were only a handful of characters that I didn‘t hate, which appears to be part of the point (and possibly part of the other books in the series? Not sure). I honestly couldn‘t connect the dots to what truly happened, which I love. Nothing groundbreaking but definitely a good read! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I love a book with a good murder board! (*murderboard not from book 😅)
This Serial-alike dealt with the array of buzz-worthy issues, motives, and high school in a believable and charming way. I would have been all on board but for one small plot point… (⬇️ for spoiler)
#bookspin complete!

Larkken The dog. This felt like overkill, like the author felt she had to really get us on board for the murderer‘s comeuppance. Booo 2mo

A good murder mystery. There were a lot of good twists, but you could tell it was a debut novel by how many twists there were. I lost track of the suspects almost immediately after. Also, they totally murdered a dog. So, 3.5⭐️?

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is a story surrounding a murder-suicide taking place 5 years back. We follow a highschool senior as she looks deeper into this case for her senior project, soon realizing that the case may not really be closed after all.

A Good Girl's Guide was such an amazing thriller/mystery. The plot was so well thought out and it really takes all the trust out of you. By page 20 I was already blaming everyone.

Book 19 2021- well as suspected I did in fact guess most of this book at only 20% and whilst this isn‘t always a big issue they need to have a lot of depth in the other areas (characters, narrative etc) to make up for it and this one didn‘t do it for me. Not a complete pan as I actually found the main character and her family endearing but the book left me rolling my eyes at the silly ending. It‘s taken me months to review which is telling ⭐️⭐️

I was swallowed whole by the strange, familiar yet different, mystifying and thrilling, full of suspense and epic, life-altering, journey(s) that this story brought to life. Never in my wildest imagination did I think the story would end how it did! Ms. Holly Jackson kept her readers guessing until the very last page! Her writing style is beautiful, creative, and flows through my head like a movie.

The hype is worth it! This was a good mystery! I liked Pippa as a main character, and that rarely occurs. She‘s smart and doesn‘t take crap from anyone. I enjoyed plot because it was fast-paced and I didn‘t find any holes. I can‘t wait to read the sequel.

"When you ask people in town what happened to Andie Bell, they'll tell you without hesitation: 'She was murdered by Salil Singh.' No, 'allegedly', no 'might have', no 'probably', no 'most likely'.

He did it, they say. Sal Singh killed Andie.

But I'm just not sure." -- A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson

Andie Bell was said to have been murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, five years ago. Pippa uses her school project as an excuse to find out the truth. And someone tries to prevent that from happening.
I have also seen this on Booktok quite a bit, so I thought I‘d give it a read.

✨ really addictive small-town mystery plot
✨ excellent characters & dynamics — Pippa was an engaging sleuth & Ravi was a total sweetheart

— I liked Pippa, but the “she loves homework” bit was unnecessary. It made me doubt that somebody like her would EVER leave their college essay to the last minute, even to solve a murder.

— the South Asian representation was Not Great…so themes around not crucifying BIPOC folks felt flat.

Overall: ★★★★☆

Finished last night. Another book I've been seeing everywhere that I finally got around to reading. This was a quick read and the "who done it" really kept me guessing and reading. I changed my guess a few times throughout. I have the second book and want to get to it this fall. It was a quick and enjoyable read. ?

tracey38 I did think the main character did a couple stupid things on her own that she should have known were way too dangerous. But hey, it's fiction... 🤷‍♀️ 5mo

Well team- A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, is a good, easy romp. If you like a bit of crime fiction, a bit of drama, but you don't have the mental capacity for anything too heavy-duty or tricksy, this is the read for you. It's definitely got the YA tone, but it's got a bit more depth in terms of plotting than I expected. What is most important is that its propelling in its plotting, and I found it easy to be immersed in what happens next.

MyNamesParadise I love this book! And there‘s a sequel called Good Girl, Bad Blood that is also really good! The third and final book in the series comes out late September. I believe it‘s called As Good As Dead. 5mo

A fun YA mystery/thriller & great debut. I had a good time & really liked the audiobook. The protagonist is fun & smart & I quite liked her. The majority of the story felt believable & the tension was pretty well managed throughout. I did guess the majority of the ending pretty early on, but there were a lot of red herrings that had me mildly questioning my assumptions. I liked the writing style & found it engaging without being too heavy.
