I really enjoyed this #bookspin pick.
The mysteries were engaging and even when I thought I had everything figured out, I didn‘t, but it all still made sense. The characters were engaging. And it was funny.
The only reason this is not a 5 ⭐️ was because of Joyce. To me she is the weakest character and her chapters were a slog to get through. And unfortunately her chapters were the longest (or at least they seemed that way to me).

How did I not know David Tennant was also in the movie?!?!?!? Could the cast get any better? (Well yes, they could‘ve also given me Michael Sheen 😹)
I am even more excited to see it now.
I‘m only about 60 pages into the book but I have some time. I didn‘t realize the movie was coming out at the end of the month, not next week.

I‘m hoping to finish this first book soon because I think the movie comes out on Netflix next week.

This was an enjoyable mystery with all the things I loved about We Solve Murders - distinctive characters with unique voices and perspectives along with a mystery that keeps developing in complexity (mostly because of human nature!)

Looking forward both to the Netflix adaptation and to continuing the series!

I like this author as a comedian and I liked the premise of this book: older adults in a retirement community who use their professional skills to solve murders. However, I had trouble keeping track of all the characters and the plot felt disjointed to me.

This was so much fun!
I loved this set of characters. Sweet little ol' people back to their old ways and honestly Joyce is quite adorable whereas Elizabeth is mysterious and a delight. I do like the ruff on Ron, he sounds like a cinnamon roll that could kill where as Ib, a bit mysterious as well but he didn't get a lot of screen time compared to the others but so far I do like this group.

I fondly recalled the Hipsters (they've all had hip replacements) from “Community“ reading this. Osman's gang is considerably more subtle & refined but equally willing to make use of stereotypes about being old & befuddled when it suits their purposes. And they're also heartbreakingly vulnerable to the issues of old age.

Didn't love the fat-shaming & copaganda, and was iffy on the moral ambiguity but the cast is so endearing I enjoyed it anyway.

I‘d been meaning to read this for a while and just finished up while recovering from a wisdom tooth pull ;) this was a lot of fun…. Loved reading about older characters with fun spunky personalities

In a peaceful and respectful retirement community a group of four friends meet weekly to discuss and try to solve murders. The characters are nearing 80, but that doesn‘t seem to slow them down. They look in each case with the knowledge that they‘re going to catch their “criminal.” They use connections they made earlier in life and diligently take the facts and hopefully catch the murderer before anyone else dies. 4/5⭐️

having listened 2 this & physically read We Solve Murders, I‘ve come 2 the conclusion I don‘t find Richard Osman funny. I enjoyed the characters enough in this 1 but there were so many, it was hard to follow listening to the audio. Maybe because I‘m not in the best headspace right now, I just wanted it to be done so I could listen to something else. I heard the other books in the series are better so will give those a listen at some point.

There were aspects I loved about this one, especially the characters. They‘ll definitely stay with me. But I felt like the plot was overly convoluted and dragged. I think the author tried to fit in too many different subplots. I‘d love to hear if it‘s worth continuing the series. I did love the final reveal and felt it was worth it in the end. I probably would have enjoyed this one more if my expectations hadn‘t been so high.

A slow start due to many character introductions, but it picks up midway. This quirky group of retirees solves cold cases—until a fresh murder complicates things. Charming, funny, and cozy with shifting perspectives and journal entries. The mystery is scattered but enjoyable. Stick with it—it‘s worth it! I‘ll grab the next from the library. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5)/5 ❤️📚 This was my bookspin for January.

This book was a load of fun, with entertaining characters and loads of wry humor that I quite enjoyed. My overall rating was somewhat lowered by the ending - it felt like the red herrings got a bit out of control - seriously, how many people have secrets centered around this one spot?? - and one other issue I had I'll put as a spoiler below. But overall this was a great time and I'll definitely pick up the sequel.

About 25% into this novel and struggling. Every time I pick it up, I fall asleep. It‘s more about me than the book, I think, but I‘m still having a hard time keeping the characters straight.

My reading partner had a seizure at 4:30am, hence why I‘m falling asleep today. It‘s been 6 months since her last one. 😔 My brother‘s beloved pup died on Tuesday after a seizure, so my girl‘s this morning was especially scary. Rough day around here.

It‘s so nice to have a core of characters comprised of older people. There‘s no alcoholic 30 year old police detective who conveniently forgets her cellphone when confronting a bad guy. Instead, our main characters reside in a retirement village. They‘ve got complex back stories, and they are all clever and honestly, just delightful. The mystery is great, the characters are wonderful, and I can‘t wait to dig into the next one.

This book is tricky. In a good way. Loved the way the author led us through the crime, adding clues and putting pieces together. Looking forward to the other books so far in this series. #62-2024

I really loved this one.

Four octogenarians (or thereabouts) kill time and stay sharp through amateur* sleuthing. The result is solved crimes, unlikely friendships, and boundless charm.

(The amateur descriptor is perhaps misleading…even if it is by hobby rather than trade, they are certainly effective detectives!)

This was absolutely delightful. Honestly Cooper's Chase is retirement goals. I can only hope I end up with a group of similar friends at that age. I liked that there was a nice mix of both humor and seriousness

I enjoyed this but the plot/mystery was kinda complicated and there were so many characters to keep track of. The 4 members of The Thursday Murder Club were wonderful characters though! Giving it a soft pick.

This book reminded me of afternoons watching Murder She Wrote with my Nanny. It was such a fun story, and I‘m glad that I‘ll be able to continue following these delightful and witty characters throughout the series.

I really enjoyed this! I loved the characters, their pain and challenges and also their enjoyment of life. I found the plot quite complicated but maybe my brain is just fried from work 😅 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hello Litsy! I am remerging! Here‘s what I‘ve been up to lately- lots of mysteries and I‘ve discovered cozy books, which are a new favorite. I haven‘t been keeping up with comics as much, and am hoping to find out what I‘ve been missing!

Why oh why is the use of commas in this book so bad?

I did a 5 km hike this morning on a beautiful mild winter's day and ran some errands. So far I'm enjoying the tagged book and reading and resting are my main plans for the rest of the day.

I am not with the majority here, I know, but I‘m not here to say this is a bad book. It‘s just not a book for me. I did not know it was a cozy mystery until I started reading it and just couldn‘t get into it hence why I had to bail. Cozy mystery lovers will definitely enjoy this!

Can't remember the last time I was THIS excited for an adaptation...

good fun and an easy and engaging read. happy to see he has others in this series and looking forward to spending more time with the gang.

How delightful! Almost more of a character study than a mystery story, and lovely at that. The group of puzzle solvers is funny and bright and very enjoyable to spend time with, and the peripheral characters are just as well drawn and entertaining. The solution to it all ended up being sort of sweetly sad (there‘s a word for this I can‘t remember), and partly predictable partly not, which was fun. I‘ll definitely read more in the series.

Changing up my current reads in the hopes of getting over this lil slump — a cozy mystery is almost always a good bet! 🤞🏻

Happy Sunday! Storm Kathleen is still battering at my door here in N Ireland, but I'm snuggled up with books and coffee ☕☕☕ I just finished The Thursday Murder Club and it was fantastic!!! I picked it out of the book box in the village where I live ages ago and put off reading it as I thought it would be too 'cosy' crime for- but I loved it! It was so funny and sad and bittersweet and it has me guessing until the end! Loved it!💗

The Thursday Murder Club meets once a week to go through cold cases. But now they have their first real life murder mystery!

I really enjoyed this cosy mystery and the audio was excellent.
