Gillian Flynn says, "Karin Slaughter is simply one of the best thriller writers working today." Two armed men enter the police station in tiny Heartsdale, Georgia, and open fire. When the shooting stops, an officer is dead, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver is seriously wounded, and the survivors—including a class of grade-school children and medical examiner Sara Linton—are held hostage. In a tense standoff that could erupt at any moment into more bloodletting—with her ex-husband on the threshold of death—Sara must search for answers and an escape in the memories of a time at the start of their relationship when another brutal, shocking crime shattered their small-town world. Because the sins of the past have caught up with Sara and Jeffrey ... with a vengeance.

Got my miles in early with Karin Slaughter... it‘s going to be a snowy windy storm today! 🌨❄️💨

CocoReads We drove home from Sturgis in some stuff last night. What‘s normally an hour drive, added an extra 30 minutes but it was mostly slippery. But yeah, we‘re currently getting snowed on. I have to go out in a bit to meet someone and then this afternoon to take my oldest grocery shopping (plus, I have to go as well) because I have 4 wheel drive and she doesn‘t. Stay warm and safe! 6mo
SailorMoon My dad also walks and reads, I don't know how you do it 😰 I either get nauseous or don't see the treadmill and fall off of it 🤣 6mo

I want to finish the Grant County series (two more to go) but I‘m not such a fan as many others. I can‘t put my finger on what‘s bothering me since they are definitely thrilling. Maybe it‘s the translation (I‘ve read the last two in Dutch and will switch now to English again), maybe it‘s that I don‘t really like any of the characters. That may be it.

Tove_Reads Just started on my second. In English. 7mo

I have been stopping and starting too many books over the last few weeks. Karin Slaughter seems to be the only author who can hold my attention these days. Book #4 in the Grant County series and some leftover Indian food. #BookAndLunch

BarbaraBB Do you like them? I just started the series too! 10mo
TrishB Wish I was reading these for the first time again! 10mo
MicheleinPhilly @BarbaraBB I love them! They are very gruesome though. I don‘t know what it says about me that I find them comforting. 😬 10mo

MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I pre-ordered it too but it‘s coming from your neck of the woods so I‘m sure I‘ll have to wait a bit. I could have just ordered the Kindle edition but I wanted the whole series to match. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 10mo

Probably the strongest in the series so far, I'm super attached to these characters! The beginning just about gave me a heart attack though, the tension was off the charts and it's a nail biter for sure. I also really enjoyed the backstory. Karin Slaughter is top notch, folks 👏🏽

Figured I'd finish out #24in48 by starting the fourth book in the Grant County series and BOOM. Karin Slaughter had to go and give me a friggin HEART ATTACK right at the beginning of the book. Seriously, my heart stopped. I should be winding down for bed but now I have to know what happens next before I lose my sh*t 😭

My #FavouriteDetective is probably Jeffrey Tolliver from Karin Slaughter‘s Grant County series - I‘ve still got the last couple in the series to read - I‘m trying to pace myself with them ! #MarchMadness
Lovely idea to do a thriller based challenge @josteele - it‘s definitely the genre I read most of I think 😊

TrishB Great choice 👍🏻 1y

📖 YESSSSSS! This is the best in the Grant County Series so far! Oh my gosh. Wow. This installment has two plot lines: one from the present that is a NAIL. BITER. OMGGG. and also one from the past, set in Jeffrey‘s hometown. I know Jeffrey a little better now, which is great because I really like him. There is a meaty storyline here, but this is not the most squeamish book in the series!

🎧 Kathleen Early narrates the audio again: it is fabulous.

intothehallofbooks @JoeStalksBeck The closer I get to the end of this series, the more terrified I get. I‘M TERRIFIED. Only two more books! (Don‘t tell me what happens!) But I typically chicken out and skip the end of series when I‘m super invested. I‘m SOOO attached to these characters. I need a support group. 😳 2y
JoeStalksBeck You better finish it the read The Good Daughter! 2y
intothehallofbooks @JoeStalksBeck I read The Good Daughter and want to reread it. So good, oh my gosh. One of my top favorite books. 2y

Reading by booklight with coffee ☕️ for a few minutes before I wake up my house for the day.

This book is the fourth in the Grant County Series and is OH MY GOSH, SO GOOD. Karin Slaughter knocked me over in the first chapter with this one and I‘m not even sure how I‘m breathing while I read it.

JoeStalksBeck I love her books! 2y
GatheringBooks haven‘t read any of her titles yet, but i think i have a few in my shelves - what book would you recommend that I start with? 2y
intothehallofbooks @JoeStalksBeck I‘m just over halfway and I CANNOT put this one down! I think it might be the best one in this series so far. 2y
See All 6 Comments
intothehallofbooks @GatheringBooks I think The Good Daughter is a great place to start. It‘s a stand-alone with a prequel novella that isn‘t required to understand or further the main novel at all. It honestly just blew me away with how good it is. Then I would recommend this Grant County Series. I read that the author says either Blindsighted (#1) or this book (#4) are good start points. I started at #1 and am going in order. They‘re excellent! 2y
intothehallofbooks @GatheringBooks This book is an option to start even though it is #4 because it has lots of backstory on two of the main characters, which we haven‘t gotten yet in this series. I‘m fine having waited until now to have their backstories because I have grown to be SO attached to them prior to finding out their histories. 😊 2y
GatheringBooks @intothehallofbooks sounds great! thanks so much! 2y

Grant County #4 This is another series that I love. This one was a little different as it was set in present day and also flashed back to when Sara and Jeffrey first became a couple. As usual, the story was gripping and I listened whenever/wherever I could. Slaughter has the ability to write characters that I love most of the time, but also hate sometimes. #litsyAtoZ #SisforSlaughter #seriescatchup
