Albeit not very popular amongst the many I really enjoyed this book. Providence, and the hand that guides the many sometimes comes in signs, that if we were to be more aware of these subtle signs for or against something and to live our lives more honorably, the result may result in abundance if one is genuine to those moral roots.
All these things, with some very surprising incidents in some new adventures of my own, for ten years more, I may perhaps give a farther account of hereafter.

A wild ride. First a lot of things happen in very little time, before he reaches the island; then nothing really happens for ages, is basically Bear Grylls telling you how he survives in the wild, but I'm not sure that Defoe had any experience (this is actually a compliment, I enjoyed this part). When Friday comes in there's a bit more happening, some good reflections but overall too much religion. Then suddenly the amount of people coming ⬇️
This book was honestly just peculiar. I enjoyed it - mostly - but some parts of it just left me scratching my head a bit. I really enjoyed the parts on the island and reading about him creating a life there. But then it felt like the ending went a bit off the rails, and then it was almost like he was like, “you know what, never mind, I'll just write a second volume“ and that's the end! 😂 Still, as a book widely acclaimed as “the first novel“ ⬇
You think you know this story, but there are still surprises along the way. If you accept the time in which it was written it‘s a fun adventure story, and Defoe carries the reader along for the ride. Thanks to @TheAromaofBooks and #randomclassics for getting me to read this. I‘m going on an outing with my mother and my granddaughter tomorrow, but I‘ll chime in to the discussion when I can.
I'm trying to catch up with this, just have to say that if I had a dog, that's all I'd write about in my diary. I WOULD NOT write about building a table instead.
(Picture of detector dog Jack that I saw the other day on the news and fell in love with cause he's obviously such a good boy)

(thru ch 14) Well, ol' Robby has really been through it! Over 20 years!!!! I had no idea this book covered so much time. I'm still enjoying this one although he does get quite long-winded sometimes with his philosophizing, and the writing can be repetitive as he tells you what's going to happen and then tells what happened lol Obviously his desire to “get a servant“ instead of “get a companion“ is troublesome. But I thought his conclusions about ⬇
(thru ch7) I'm actually really enjoying this one, even if our narrator is somewhat repetitive. I had no idea so many adventures happened to him before he even got shipwrecked!! It kind of fascinated me that he was a slave for a couple of years himself, but seemed to think nothing of heading to Africa to get some slaves of his own. Crazy.
So many random things that he just says casually and then moves on. “I had two elder brothers, one of which ⬇
Robinson is rescued by a Portuguese ship, with the help of the captain he sells all his possessions(which apparently includes his friend xD)and settles in Brazil where he has a prosperous plantation. After his first trip almost ended in death;and the second captured and made a slave; he makes the OBVIOUS decision of going for a third trip to buy slaves for other people. I'm happy he is now in the Island cause I can't cope with his decision making
This chapter with the weird unidentifiable beasts, and the lion swimming to the boat to attack them got me so confused 😂 It made me think about that theory that says that unicorns were just badly described rhinos

I planned on reading a Kindle version but found this Penguin Classics edition for $4, at a secondhand bookstore in Providence, RI. Yesterday!!! Coincidence? I think not. Serendipitous, perhaps. 🤔
Honestly, I already feel that Robinson Crusoe and I are kindred spirits

I bought this some of years ago in a second hand bookshop, I'm not going to lie, I just got it because it's pretty, but excited to give it a chance with @TheAromaofBooks and her #RandomClassics
My edition has an index dividing it on 24 chapters but with the help of Sparknotes I managed to find the 20 chapters division.
This is basically what I did with my first hour in the office cause it's Monday and I couldn't be arsed xD
repost for @TheAromaofBooks
Okay friends, here is the #BuddyRead schedule for Robinson Crusoe!! Basically, I will try to check in about 1/3 and then 2/3 through the book, i.e. chapters 7 and 14. I've included the final sentence of each of those chapters for those whose books are not divided into 20 chapters.

I've included the final sentence of each of those chapters for those whose books are not divided into 20 chapters. We'll do our best to keep on track together/avoid spoilers, but I realize no promises can be made when we're all reading different editions with different divisions!! ⬇
Oh my word, we are already more than halfway through June!! So it's time to see who would like to read along for July's #RandomClassic - Robinson Crusoe!! I've been wanting to reread this one for years.
In a trick move, I have two editions of this book. They seem to be the same text, but one is divided into 20 chapters, and the other isn't! So if you are planning to read along, let me know whether or not your book has chapters and we will see ⬇

Been reading it for my thesis, so I can't say I have enjoyed it.
I was born in the year 1632, in the city of York, of a good family, though not of that country, my father being a foreigner of Bremen, who settled first at Hull.

Robinson Crusoe, as a young and impulsive wanderer, defied his parents and went to sea. He was involved in a series of violent storms at sea and was warned by the captain that he should not be a seafaring man. Ashamed to go home, Crusoe boarded another ship and returned from a successful trip to Africa.

(1719) Awkward pacing, religious moralizing, and pervasive racism, combined with ethics that rank disobeying one's parents as the deadliest of sins but enslaving one's neighbor as God's divine plan, make this very difficult to read except as an interesting piece of literary history. But it is interesting.
What makes a classic? Not sure but Robinson Crusoe qualifies for me. I used to teach it, and each time, it gave me something new to think about and/or appreciate about it.
That said, I can understand never wanting to read this book. 🤣

This was between a Pick and a So-So. A grand adventure tale, written in the early 1700s.
This is my final completed book of the 24 hour readathon. While I love my illustrated copy of Robinson Crusoe, this book was not as entertaining/adventurous as I thought it would be.

This book is hitting a lot of the themes for today: having Friday as a character, a C in the title for Crusoe, and an all around great book to read about a cast away.

I borrowed this as an audiobook from the library, and it ended up being a heavily abridged radio drama. I enjoyed the dramatization, but I don't really feel the need to read the full version of the novel.
While a classic, being the first English novel and such, and with all due respect to Defoe‘s creativity, the story is awkward at times especially when the journal as narrative device fails to keep the reader compelled. Defoe makes up for this somewhat with the psychological thriller of the latter half of the story when Crusoe finds the lone footprint in the sand on his “deserted” island and later frets and plots against the threat of cannibals.

DD wants to read Robinson Crusoe first. ❤️❤️❤️
This has many aspects we might find problematic, most specifically from a postcolonial aspect, and it has 'early novel features'--a final travelogue in Europe--where we would expect narrative unity and closure. However, it is a fascinating read for all of those reasons; I am still inclined to think that it is better to study the past than to suppress it. Maybe not if you love animals, mind you 😏 ...
Just some of the books I studied with Chris, aka the Lion!

I went in the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse while in my Disney trip; here‘s a picture of the kitchen room; it was decorated in ship/nautical style!
I read Robinson Crusoe, inspired by a real maroon. It wasn‘t as epic as movies or TV shows portray it, but the takeaway is there was a lot of goats on the island.
I didn't hate Robinson Crusoe, but I just couldn't get on board with the colonialist BS it espoused (even in context). The “englightened“ Englishman “redeeming“ the “savage“, ugh. It did convince me that I would never survive a shipwreck on a deserted island though. I'd just drink whatever booze I could salvage and meet my maker shortly thereafter 🥂 Full review here: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/robinson-crusoe-daniel-defoe/ #ClassicBooks
Well I‘m not very good at cutting straight lines, but I didn‘t want to just throw this old bookcover calendar away. They may be a bit crooked but I still think they are nice enough postcards. So if you ever receive one of these- keep in mind that I gave my best😂😂😂
