Very fast paced and compact story that cleverly weaves several character arcs together and culminates in a fabulous twist. A proper mystery until the end and very believable. Not high end prose, but very readable and enjoyable.

Well this was a nice surprise, a solid thriller with older characters is always appreciated.
Flinton On Sea (which is definitely Frinton for those from that part of the UK) has a secret. Rumor has it that there is a child killer amongst the population who has been housed there by the protection services and as the rumour takes hold, everyone is under suspicion.
Started this baby yesterday afternoon. 🏖
The first few pages are very promising...

This was a cracker! Reminded me of The Shining Girls initially & a bit generic. But it revealed itself to be something out of the ordinary. The author made every single character a plausible suspect & totally foiled my attempts to guess 'whodunit'! It's fast paced, every development is compelling & has a MC whose motivations I could completely empathise with. The denouement sequence is thrilling & heartbreaking in equal measure. Starting this one today - sounds good! With thanks to #netgalley for this book.
Quick little suspense thriller to start off my October spooky reading! Thought I picked the killer, but booooy was I wrong! 🔪 #screamathon
3.5 🌟
I read this a little earlier in the year and loved it ... Once I got started I couldn‘t put it down.
My partner did good when they bought me a book for Valentine‘s Day ❤️

The Rumour by Lesley Kara
A casual comment.
"There's a killer among us."
That's all it takes
"She stabbed little Robbie Harris."
To change a life -
"She's living under a new name."
For ever.
"She's reformed. So they say."

“Rumours are like seeds scattered in the wind. There‘s no telling where theyll land, but Land they will. Settled in cracks and crevices, the roots take hold. It doesn‘t matter if they‘re true or false. The more times they‘re spoken, the faster and stronger the grow. Like beanstalks, waving in the air” Easy to read, hard to put down and well resolved. That‘s all I want in a thriller! Great first novel!
I keep thinking that I should really like psychological thrillers, and I keep snapping them up if I see them cheap on Amazon. But then I find they never quite meet my expectations, and I can‘t put my finger on why - possibly something as simple as I am not generally a fan of books written in the present tense. And the MC always seems to be really annoying too. So this is probably an OK example of a genre I don‘t like as much as I think I should!
I really enjoyed this book. I didn't feel much connection with the characters but that didn't take away from the book overall. It was a entertaining read.
I was surprised by who the killer was. 👍🏼
Well, I didn't get much read...too busy with the last days if school holidays and kids activities. There are a few hours left but I don't have reading time today.
But I was happy to participate in my first ever readathon. #24in48readathon
Ok I'm late to join and it's my first time in the #24in48readathon I am not sure how far I'll get with kids under my feet all weekend.
I'm starting off by reading The Rumour.
Although I had figured out one secret, the last hour kept a few surprises.
That was a really good thriller. Possible and by that scary plot.
What if you found out one elderly woman in town is a known child killer under witness protection? The rumour mill is starting something and suddenly anyone could be that murderer. And just because you more or less accidentally spread the rumour, you and your child are suddenly targeted.
#audioknitting one fingerless mitten done. Now it's just not panicking because the second doesn't turn out 100% the same. Then weaving in the ends and adding embellishments.
Nearly finished the book.

I read this in just over a day. It was hard to put down. Good summer reading
Good Morning! #audioknitting will commence once I have taken my daughter to speech therapy.
First, tea and Litsy.
And I'm considering showing my unfiltered, still tired face for the weekly #BFCR2 #photochallenge. (not that I'd ever use a filter. I suppose the real challenge, for me, would be to put on makeup and take a picture.)

Good Morning!
Sitting outside in the cool July breeze. Can't believe we had 20°C more on the thermometer just 8 days ago.
It's 9.30am and this is my first tea. Was busy beforehand, getting the kids to school, organising stuff. Last week of school before the summer holidays. Walked 4k steps already. 😀

Woke up at 4.30am with a clogged nose. Hay-fever, summer cold, chronic sinusitis? The nose is only halfway free when I'm upright. 😬
Decided to #AudioCheck Litsy while pacing my bedroom.

Rumour has it there's a child killer in town. She must be in her 40s.
About 40 minutes into the #audiobook and I'm definitely hooked and trying to find out who the person of interest might be.
Pic shows my attempt at adding a bit of colour (and clutter) to my new bedside shelf.
Pssst, have you heard... #therumour a cracking thriller about the damage that idle gossip can wreak in a small town is on sale as one of Kindle's daily deals."

Happy Monday everyone! Hope all of you have a nice week. I made these Honey Vanilla Banana Bread Muffins yesterday. Boy are they delicious! If you are Banana Bread fan, I highly recommend these! Starting the week out with The Rumor. Got my daily juice concoction and ready to tackle the day! @penguinrandomhouse
Bit late but finally updated my #bujo for December reads. Not the best month but better than last month.
Joanna & her son, Alfie have moved back to her childhood home town but are having problems fitting in. Joanna is about to find out that rumours are easy to start but not so easy to end.
This was an intriguing read, with lots of twists & turns & red herrings. I changed my mind a couple of times over the guilty party & the ending is good. 4🌟
Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Random House UK/Transworld, for the opportunity to review an ARC.
Catching half an hour of calm before my shift
This was so good. It really does keep you guessing right to the very end. The twist is amazing and really caught me out. The plot is clever and constantly moving. It keeps you gripped and desperate for know more. As for the ending wow especially the very last scene, what a clever climax. This is a brilliant thriller and well worth the read. The varying emotions through the book are well thought out and executed.

Ooh managed 4 hours yesterday so just under halfway. Back to work today. #25in5 got a few books finished though.
Oh dear this readathon is not going as well as I'd hoped. Only at 8 hours. Ah well I'm enjoying it anyway.
Read full review on my blog - in bio. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Rumour is Lesley Kara's debut novel, a gripping book about what people are capable of doing when they feel threatened and exposed. A thriller about paranoia, fear and suspense unlike any other.
What happens when you hear that a lady that killed a child 30 years ago might be living in your town. What happens when you tell your friends are the rumour spreads? What if she's after you now?

This book has an amazing plot full of twists and turns and will keep you guessing right till the end. Could not put it down I had to know who Sally was. This book starts with a rumour and a family wanting to fit in to a small town. who is Sally and could she possibly be living in Flinstead under a new identity. I can‘t say much more without giving something away but definitely read this book
