Summer Spirit | Elizabeth Holleville

Pickpick

This had such a nostalgic style! Louise is the youngest of the cousins who all spend the summer with their grandmother who lives near the beach. Being the youngest, she gets left out as the older girls crush on cute guys at the beach & smoke cigarettes. She ends up befriending a mischievous ghost, who has a family connection. A beautiful coming of age story, filled with very realistic sibling behaviour & the sad realities of the passage of time.

You and me both!

Why is it almost 2am and 27°C/80°F?

LeeRHarry Not to rub it in but I‘m mighty glad I‘m in the UK atm! 1w

I'm going to give this a try. I've been having a hard time settling on a book to read.

Have you ever bonded with a stranger over a book?

Ruthiella Over loving to read yes, but not over a specific book (except here on Litsy of course 😄) 4w

Wow. I mean… wow. I don‘t know what I was expecting from this book, but it was definitely not this.

Mehso-so

I am a fan of YA romances, and I kind of loved the series on Prime so o read the book. They literally have different endings. I actually preferred the show this time. Very rare.

Pickpick

It turns out Judy Blume is as much a reliable author for adults as she is for children and adolescents. This is not a complicated novel but somehow it still gets just how complicated female friendships and families can be. Reading this felt like visiting an old friend in a nostalgic summer location.

TheBookHippie I‘ve always felt Caitlin would reappear someday… I read this when it came out and again later on. I may need to read it again. 🤣🙃😅 1mo

Mehso-so

I was so confused like 75% of the time, yet I couldn‘t stop listening. The ways the words flowed together was poetic. Bradbury has an incredible way with words, in a way that feels deep. Deeper than a usual way, though sometimes too deep to understand. This story was about a boy going through an intense summer. Between the happiness machine, an old love waxing and waning for the next life, and something about grief.
