Sadly, on a train again. What I can tell you is that 1) I've not read anything fictional in 8 days, and 2) Not going to read fiction any time soon, because course writing, and 3) Not going to finish Inktober in actual October.
Please tell me fun bookish things!
End of day, another train, this time in first class, which I almost never do. Onward and forward to Toronto. I am exhausted!
Gloomy traveler on a gloomy train day. Forgot my lunch bag at home. Heading to uni for a full teaching day, then taking another train to Toronto, where I have a specialist appointment tomorrow morning. After which, I'm going to the Muji store to buy All. The. Stationary!!! Then another train home. Too much marking and lecture writing to do for getting any reading done. We'll see. *sigh*
Québec City bound. I'm teaching a class at Université Laval tomorrow. (This time, I'm travelling 1st class 😉)
Off to work today, despite having had an allergic reaction to prosciutto last night. Had to take an antihistamine which means my meeting with the allergist tomorrow is compromised, which means my travel this weekend is compromised too. Hate my life!
I didn't guess the ending, which was great! However, when I finished I was kinda just like "ohh okay" and not the "Omgeezy" I was expecting from all the hype ?? 3.5/5
Going to uni, for the dreaded MA defence and hopefully for checking if my machines work in the bigger auditorium I'm assigned. It's been in use every time I was on campus this last six months. I also need to look at the campus bookstore to find where they keep the texts I assigned and look into library reserves. First class on 5 Sept. #academiclife #train
I recently read the book 📖 and watched the movie 🎥 as well. A skilful memory loss thriller! This thriller is atmospheric and suspenseful. Coming to the movie, although various timelines do make it somewhat confusing, plots being disjointed but all the three women hold it all together, especially Emily Blunt for her stunning portrayal of forsakeness!
No doubt this was a five star read for me! Rachel commutes to London every day passing by the same houses every morning and every evening. One day she sees something that might be useful for a police investigation... or maybe not ! #cozyinthesun #travelreads
Even though there is only one girl on the train, Hawkins flicks back and forth between the perspectives of three female characters. It was a nice change reading the stories of fictional women that were actually written by a woman. Don't get me wrong, this one is hardly at the forefront of feminist literature, but it was still a reasonable twisty thriller. An enjoyable read. Rachel is a wonderfully unreliable narrator and as a regular train commuter it is easy to recognize the fascination with the houses you pass. Also: I thought the description of Rachel‘s alcoholism was both realistic and depressing. Not everything is believable, but it kept me on my toes and that is what a thriller should do.
I can hear noises from the street: a police siren, young girls shouting and laughing, bass booming from a passing car. Normal life. But in here, the world is ending. For Scott, the world is ending, and I can't speak. I stand there, mute, helpless, useless
Another disappointment, even worse than Into the Water. The culprit super obvious, way too many voices trying to add their superflous perspectives, and yet again the motto of "All men are basterds, all women meant well but fucked up". As average TV-mystery this might work, but holds no more content than a 90min flick. #dontbelievethehype
When the influx of patients is slow! Sadly, I couldn‘t fathom patience for the milkman, I guess that‘s a read for another day! If you‘ve read this book, what are your thoughts about it? ☺️
My whole life, trains run in the background of this song. And Rachel, she was #HookedOnAFeeling
Day 17 of #MayMovieMagic with #HookedOnAFeeling #BooksToMovie
And Week2 Begins for
#BookFitnessChallenge. Let‘s get this train started! #BFC @wanderinglynn
I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeah
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away
She's got a ticket to ride🎶
Rachel has #atickettoride the daily commuter train, but one day she sees something shocking from the train. Unable to stop thinking about it, she know she must do something
#AnglophileApril Day 2: This pageturner has a lot of #RumorHasIt vibe. Most reviewers tend to liken the plot to that of Gone Girl – and I can see the parallels, particularly with the unreliable narrators whose memories are dubious at best. I naturally accompanied my review with traintrack photos while I was in Birmingham and London in 2015. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-axE
A wardrobe basic; an easy, diary style, holiday read. I read it in a day, it served that purpose. It's a pudding book. Not main course. The premise is relevant - on point - the prose is unsophisticated. That said, I enjoyed the drunkenness of Rachel. So many women are that. I have been. Hence, it's on point. About Rachel, on a train that sees into houses - invents the lives of occupants - then becomes embroiled.
I am incredibly late to the party with this one, but glad to have finally latched on. Half way through and I've got my suspicions.
You know what's good? Reading smut (not tagged book) after being stuck in a tincan for 7 1/2h and being awake for 18h straight. I cancelled my connecting flight and I'm taking the train back home. Not taking another flight until April. You can't make me.
1. A tie between this one and “The Kite Runner”
3. I ambien texted a co-worker late at night way past her bedtime and didn‘t remember AT ALL
4. An old Victoria‘s Secret lotion called “gardenia” that I wore in high school. Smelling anything similar really takes me back. Lots of fond memories :)
5. Gray Becoming
I just hated this MC. She definitely reminded me of why I quit drinking. #unpopularopinion
Oh, hey, am I still on a train? Why yes, I'm still on a train. The latest estimate is that I'll be home around 21:00. I out of reading material. Am I fed up with my day? Oh, yeah! Am I staying home tomorrow rather than going to the gym? You bet! #trainlife
Adventures in passenger trains continue! My train home is already 1/2 h late! Yoohoo!
