The Flatshare: A Novel | Beth O'Leary

Tiffy and Leon share an apartment. Tiffy and Leon have never met. After a bad breakup, Tiffy Moore needs a place to live. Fast. And cheap. But the apartments in her budget have her wondering if astonishingly colored mold on the walls counts as art. Desperation makes her open minded, so she answers an ad for a flatshare. Leon, a night shift worker, will take the apartment during the day, and Tiffy can have it nights and weekends. He’ll only ever be there when she’s at the office. In fact, they’ll never even have to meet. Tiffy and Leon start writing each other notes – first about what day is garbage day, and politely establishing what leftovers are up for grabs, and the evergreen question of whether the toilet seat should stay up or down. Even though they are opposites, they soon become friends. And then maybe more. But falling in love with your roommate is probably a terrible idea...especially if you've never met. What if your roommate is your soul mate? A joyful, quirky romantic comedy, Beth O'Leary's The Flatshare is a feel-good novel about finding love in the most unexpected of ways.

This book is proof that a good book is a friend and when you part from it (because you‘re done), it remains a part of your heart. Loved this book about two roommates who find happiness amongst crappy exes, terrible criminal justice system and hectic schedules. Sometimes love finds you and it feels easy, just right. I was late to work and burned my turkey meatballs, because that‘s how consuming this book is. Please, everyone read it.

Liatrek I love books that result in loss sleep and neglected chores 😊 adding to TBR 4d
ReadingEnvy I swear this is how love should go when it's right. 3d
Notafraidofwords @ReadingEnvy agree. There was a simplicity portrayed that I truly loved. 3d

This is the perfect beach read! 🧠🍭.....a charming British rom-com with really likable characters.
The premise is ridonkulous, but the resulting post-it relationship of the first half is super fun, and Tiffy and Leon made me smile on every single page. To fluff out the romance, and throw a few curve balls we have a gaslighting ex-boyfriend, a wrongly convicted bank robber brother, and some straight talking besties. A fun summer romp. Loved it!

Idk why I ever expect romance novels to be tolerable. People magazine tricked me into thinking this one sounded fun, but it is silly like most romance novels are. The MC is just another "quirky, funny, not-like-other-girls" trope and the love interest has very little personality. The sections from his POV are intentionally badly written for some reason. Just pure, tropey, romance nonsense. I almost DNF'd.

KatieDid927 Haha oh lord. I‘d probably hate it too. 7d
laurenslibrary @KatieDid927 Every once and awhile I'll find a romance novel I like. This wasn't one of them. 7d
KatieDid927 @laurenslibrary They are few and far between for me. 7d
StayCurious I guess you have to be a certain sappy type to enjoy them. I love romance novels but I understand that they are not for everyone. Sometimes even I roll my eyes at the cheesiness...but then other times I am pleasantly surprised 🙂 7d
laurenslibrary @StayCurious There's a few romance authors who's books I really enjoy, but I have a hard time liking a lot of romance. Just not my think like you said. 7d

Tiffy and Leon are sharing a flat and bed just at different times of the day and only communicate through notes and texts for about half the book - delightful. Well on the way to a 5 star read but the thread with Justin, Tiffys ex, tanked it for me, if they'd left him as a manipulative a$$ ok, but making him into something that gets lots of women killed IRL and wrapping it all up tidy did not work for me. (+ Martin 😡) #unpopularopinion

I LOVED this! What a cute, feel good read! I would definitely recommend picking this up if you're looking for a hilarious #romcom to cheer you up or just something easy to read by the pool this summer. I listened to this audiobook at work and the cast made the experience even better! #summerread

This book about two people who share a flat and a bed but haven't met yet is SUCH fun. Definitely one to slip into your beach bags this summer. It has other things I like, like alternating perspectives and quirky awkward characters.

I had a copy from Macmillan through edelweiss and it came out May 28.

A smart and addictive romantic comedy. It‘s not as shallow or cliche as it appears but tackles many realistic and toxic situations. I loved the entire story, but selfishly wished it had ended on a different note. The book was super original and I wish the ending reflected that.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I‘m looking forward to starting this one soon (intrigued about your comment about the ending!) 1mo
teainthelibrary @thegirlwiththelibrarybag can‘t wait to hear what you think! The ending wasn‘t bad per se, just super predictable and cliche 🙄 1mo

So good! I flew through this. On the surface it seems light and fun (and it is) but with another more serious layer too. Tiffy and Leon are brilliant characters to spend time with. (And there's a crochet connection within the book too, which is my other current obsession)

Heading back to US.... I‘ve bought way too many books, that wouldn‘t fit in my checked bag, so I‘m carrying them in my hand luggage....So what do I do? Pick up 2 more at the WHSmiths bookshop at Gatwick! My hand luggage weighs a ton! 😂

I loved this book so much. I think it might be my fave read of the year so far. It was so funny and heart warming and brilliant. I read this so quickly because I just couldn't put it down. I love the notes between Tiffy and Leon they're so cute. There is so much more to this story as well what with Leon's brother and The Justin drama. The plot is steady but has some great dramatic moments. I loved the ending so much.

I love Tiffy! She is a great character and she goes through some incredible character growth by the end of this book.

This one gets 5 stars from me. It had me laughing out loud, scared for Tiffy at some parts, then yelling at Leon at others. I want to shove this book into everyone's hands! It's a fun romance but also touches on some serious issues like emotional abuse in a relationship. This is a good one!
