So amazing, and unfortunately necessary, especially with all those new voting laws passing. I loved the book, my only thing is that in the first half, the MC made some pretty stupid choices. 5🌟

This book is amazing and scary. So realistic and believable that it is heart wrenching.
When your baby claims your warm spot on the couch as her own and plays dumb when you ask her about it. 6 yo and 90 lbs. such a love. #dogsoflitsy #dogsagainstliteracy
3/4 of the way through this book. This should be a horror story. Too real, too possible. #lmpbc #bookspin #litsyatoz
I‘ve got #lmpbc mail. Super excited to start this. @AmberWB @EH2018 @Sarahreadstoomuch
Whoa. This book was powerful, and I‘m so glad we read it for #LMPBC. I will be recommending this to my students.
Oh, and it will be going out in the mail tomorrow! @Tattooedteacher @Sarahreadstoomuch @EH2018
Misty, how did you know that I wanted this book in hardcover?? Thank you so much! Your kindness and thoughtfulness shine year round my dear friend!
And I love the Santa bookmark by Anna Claire! For those of you who don‘t know, Misty‘s daughter sells cards and bookmarks on Etsy. They are super cute! https://www.etsy.com/shop/DesignsByAnnaClaire
Came in the mail today! 😊

Finished my #lmpbc book (even though I should‘ve read my work book group book first whoops). I‘ll mail it along in a bit, when I have a chance. Can‘t wait to see what the rest of the group thinks! #readmyowndamnbooks #bookspinbingo
I just walked out of my neighborhood breakfast place (where I have a solo breakfast every Tuesday am and read - though it‘s getting busier in there so maybe not much longer) anyway, the old guy sort of near me was at the door, looked at the book, and put his hands up like .. like it was a gun or something?! And laughed. I don‘t understand what just happened at all. I just wished him a good day and got the hell out. #lmpbc
Wonderful and terrifying story of bravery amongst oppression.
I haven‘t bailed on a book in a LONG time, but to be honest, I probably wouldn‘t have ever even tried to read this if it hadn‘t been something I was given for free. Between pages 112-114 is where it broke me. I just can‘t deal anymore with this almost childish, spoiled view of what something like this would really be like. It feels like a YA novel, which is not at all what I expected. 😖 Do DNF‘s count towards #BookSpinBingo? 🤦♀️
@Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and anyone else waiting for an update on how integral the washi tape ends up being to the story! 😂🤣😂🤣
I told my husband, and he apologized for me having to keep reading the book he chose. 😅🤣😂
Because the first thing one would think to pack when being evicted from one‘s home would be rolls of washi tape... She laments not having room for sentimental letters from her boyfriend, but she packed some books, a notebook, pens, washi tape and a journal from Paris. Priorities, right? 🤦♀️
I love the premise of this book. It brings about a serious issue and sets out in a near future that could very easily happen today.
Sadly for me though, the writing left a little too be desired. Sections of the story felt forced and rushed, but I still applaud the author for attacking this controversial topic.
Today, we released our April Book Club episode of Unabridged--we're discussing Samira Ahmed's Internment.
⠀
Tune in to learn more about this important work of near-future fiction which is incredibly relevant to our current political situation. We also share our current reads and some books that we think pair well with this great, YA novel. ⬇️
I re-read Samira Ahmed's Internment for @unabridgedpod--we did a Buddy Read in March, and it's our Book Club pick for April. I revisited my original review:⠀
⠀
"I was not prepared for the power of Samira Ahmed's Internment. Her novel takes place, as she says in her Author's Note, "'fifteen minutes' into America's future." ⬇️
I wanted to like this.
I liked the concept but it didn't do anything for me.
It did have its moments.
Its back! I'm looking forward to reading everyone's comments- and I suppose I should probably start reading A Good Neighborhood 🤦♀️

This book was a little so-so for me BUT because the premise of this book is so real and heavy I'll give it a pick for Litsy! Since I am the last reader for this for our #LMPBC I'll go ahead and say I struggled a bit with this book in terms of character depth and certain scenarios. It fell too hard into YA tropes and I felt like it weighed this book down severely.
However 5 Golden Stars for the main plot! Everyone should read this.
Internment, by Samira Ahmed is about an internment camp the US started in the middle of nowhere. The main character gets sent there, and shows what life is like inside the camp, also becoming one of the Directors enemies while she is there, I would definitely recommend this book.
I joined an online book club with some friends and this was the first read. I‘m so glad I read this!
Last book for this round of #LMPBC came in today! I just finished a book yesterday so this looks like the perfect time to start this 😊
@Johanna414 @irre @TheBookKeepers
Finished this #audiobook and 🧩 at the same time! A lot of reviewers don‘t like the main character, but I found her to be strong and courageous. Some say the themes and references to what America can turn into under Trump are heavy-handed, but I disagree. Some of this is already happening, to a lesser degree, at border camps. I found it a necessary and important perspective.

#pop20 : published the month of bday (March)
I wasn‘t sure I would be able to continue listening to the tagged book after the heaviness of the March trilogy. However, I‘ve been glued to both it and this puzzle all afternoon!
I did watch 2 episodes of Poirot in between to get a dose of lighter fare. 😊

It's clear why this book was on so many 2019 best YA book lists. Painful at times to read, it accurately reflects our current reality. Layla Amin & her parents are sent to an internment camp after truthfully reporting they are Muslim on the census. Physical abuse and abuse of power is rampant & it takes teenagers to stand up against the injustices. The book doesn't tie everything up in a neat bow either, but left me with much to ponder.
It has arrived! Along with some other fun book mail! @irre @kellyann28 @Johanna414 #lmpbc
Resistance at a Muslim internment camp. So many aspects of this story are true that it finds relevance rn.
With Internment I have completed the #booked2019 challenge (#muslimmc) @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage I read out of my comfort, completed some books on #mounttbr and completed books received in swaps. Looking forward to #booked2020
A reminder of what an internment camp is - and that this is currently where thousands of children are being kept at the borders(under a different name) and a fate that befell Japanese Americans during the 1940‘s. While I have some critiques of the book it would be a good way to provoke conversation with middle school aged - although YA it is not quite as nuanced as The Hunger Games for comparison. #tbrread #wintergames #teamfestivus (forgot points
Look what I found in a basket of folded laundry today! I‘m headed to the post office with it right now. @irre So sorry for the delay!

Winter in western NY is beautiful, when I can stay in my house curled up with a book 😉
There were a few moments in this book when I had to remind myself that it was written for teenagers, but I really liked it as a whole. I‘ll get it mailed out ASAP!

This book made me so angry and also terrified me. It's not a horror novel, but the events in this book could so easily happen in our country and, in some ways, already are. I can already tell that this is going to be one of those YA novels that I recommend to every teenager I know, while also encouraging them to pass it along to their parents as well.
I am officially not impressed by GR choices for the GR awards. Most were expected. Come on show me something unexpected. Just once!
They‘re here! I‘ve got a couple books to finish up, then I‘ll be diving into these. @TheBookKeepers @kellyann28 @irre @LibrarianRyan @rachelm @aCleverDuck #lmpbc
It's difficult to express in a few characters why I hated this book so much so here goes: a stupid heroine who we're supposed to believe makes good decisions but actually makes every situation worse. A cookie-cutter supporting cast. Cliched dialogue with overly-long history lectures. The botching of a needed book on a vitally important topic.
#booked2019 #muslimauthorormc @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft
A strong young adult novel with a frightening premise that is almost too close to reality in today‘s world. Would be great for starting some classroom discussions.
