Weird Weirder Weirdest
Weird Weirder Weirdest: A Collection of Quirky Tales | Martii Maclean
5 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
This quirky collection of short stories will take you to weird worlds just beyond the here and now. Strange places where kids can control time, playing is against the law and rag-doll girls can become real. In these places magic can be found everywhere, even in cakes, pens and running shoes.

Saw this list yesterday and thought it would be perfect for #weirdwordwednesday. I particularly love the word “crapulence.” 😄

ShyBookOwl This is awesome. Never once did I wonder what the dot over an i or j was called, but I'm glad I now know 😄 8mo
CBee Well, I definitely am experiencing #16 right now 😂😅🥱 8mo
IndoorDame I just learned about phosphenes last week! So cool! 8mo

Amiable @CBee I haven‘t had breakfast yet so “wamble” is definitely happening in my life right now. 😀 8mo
CBee @Amiable I‘ve got a wamble happening too 😂 I was actually pleased that I knew a couple of these 😊 8mo
dabbe These are epic. 🤩🤩🤩 8mo
Deblovestoread Thanks for sharing! I definitely suffered from dysania this morning. 😊 8mo
Clare-Dragonfly Wow, I‘d seen the word “phosphene” before but didn‘t know what it was! Cool! 8mo

#weirdword

I know this word and what it means. What I don‘t know is how you look at split bird and name it “spatchcock”. Anyone? 😂

CBee Hahahaha I‘ve never understood this word either. Surely the word gods could‘ve come up with something less….. weird? 😂😂 1y
SamAnne Hah! I know that it is an excellent way to cook a turkey or chicken— cooks faster and more even. But gosh, I just can‘t put one on the dinner table. Both the word and the sight are just too rude! 😂😂😂 1y
Megabooks I have never heard this word! So interesting! 1y
peanutnine I had never heard of this word before but I came across it while reading today. What are the odds? 1y

Maybe some of y'all know what's happening but I am getting A LOT of new followers and it feels weird. Am I being stupid?

Seekingtardis Me too!! Hopefully it‘s just new Littens to join the family!! 5y
Texreader Yes. I‘ve noticed that 90% haven‘t posted anything. Which bothers me. I‘m only following those who‘ve already started posting. 5y
Sace @Seekingtardis that's what I'm hoping. Like was Litsy recently featured in an article or something? It's just that I've never had so many people follow me in such a short time and I'm not *that* active. 5y
See All 41 Comments
CarolynM Me too, and most of them haven't posted anything. I agree, it's strange. 5y
Kappadeemom It‘s because of the new feature! Click on the top left side and then click on suggested followers! 5y
Texreader Yes me too. But about 90% haven‘t posted anything which bothers me. So I‘m only following those who‘ve been posting already. 5y
emtobiasz Check out the @Litsy post on the new Suggested Followers feature. My guess is, because you post regularly, you were featured! (I‘ve been getting more too) 5y
gradcat Why would it be weird? Now you‘re scaring me! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Seekingtardis @RestlessFickleBookHoarder Litsy changed the Suggested Users page finally! It lists people based on activity and interests. And each time you (or a new user) goes to it, it‘s likely to have different suggestions. I think everyone is getting new followers! 5y
gradcat @BarbaraTheBibliophage Ahem! Thank you for that very reasonable explanation, dear.... 5y
Sace @Texreader I'm trying to follow that rule of thumb too. 5y
Sace @emtobiasz Ohhhh! Cool! Thanks for the info! 5y
CarolynM @emtobiasz @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thanks for the explanation. 5y
Sace @emtobiasz PS- now if feel silly ☺️🙄 5y
Sace @Kappadeemom Thank you! I knew it had to be for some reason! 5y
mcctrish I had no idea about this suggested user option. I usually click on title of whatever book I start reading and see who else is reading or has read it and follow some of those people. 5y
JamieArc I think a lot of people wait to post things and follow people before posting. If you join Litsy without knowing anyone, it can be hard to figure what to do next. That‘s how I was anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
Sace @JamieArc I guess I can understand that. I was on Twitter for about 5 minutes and you're always getting follows from random possible bots so when I started getting all these follows it felt a little like that. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @mcctrish Did you find it? If not, go to the home screen and it‘s in the upper left corner. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @RestlessFickleBookHoarder @JamieArc @Texreader Normally, I‘m slow to follow back users who don‘t post. But with all these newbies, I‘m following even when they haven‘t posted. Then just checking back every few days and watching. I‘ll unfollow if tooooo much time passes. I also go back to my oldest follows every few months, and unfollow people who haven‘t posted in over a year. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just what works for me ... 5y
GingerAntics I‘ve been noticing that, too. I‘m not sure what to think about it. I know the point of social media is to get as many followers as fast as possible and just keep building your followers, but I don‘t like doing that. My feed gets so cluttered with stuff I‘m not interested in, so I keep the people I follow to people I seem to have some interests in common with. (edited) 5y
ReadingRover I tend to only follow back users who have actually made posts. I check them over ever few days and if they still haven‘t posted I just forget about them. Maybe I‘m just paranoid and weird. 5y
ravenlee Me too! I thought I had finally made the big time! I‘m curious to look into the new feature now. 5y
rwmg I look at the first couple of screens of people's TBR and Read books and if there's a good mix of books I've read, books I want to read, and books I haven't heard of I'll follow back. 5y
JoRead Ha! I haven't even been paying attention. I don't post too often so I just figured it was some new members looking for some followers. @BarbaraTheBibliophage , thanks for the explanation! 👍 5y
Jemgirl2014 Same here! Glad I saw this. Now I understand. lol ☺ 5y
Jess_Franzino Thanks @BarbaraTheBibliophage for explaining it! I was wondering about this, too! I don‘t mind, though 😃 5y
BarbaraBB I still think it‘s a bit weird that among those new followers there are so many who have not posted yet, who give no description of themselves and who follow exactly 150 people. Am I being paranoid 😀?! @BarbaraTheBibliophage 5y
Birdsong28 I'm getting new followers as well 🤔 5y
Tonton I thought it was a bit strange as well, when I saw zero posts by several who followed me. Didn‘t even realize about suggested reader option. Thank you! 5y
Kaye I just follow them all. Doesn‘t matter to me if they posted yet. I think Litsy has lots more lurkers than posters, so maybe by including them in my Follow List, they‘ll eventually start posting. This place is probably pretty intimidating at first since so many people know each other and post frequently. 5y
Sace @BarbaraTheBibliophage I like the idea of going back to old follows, but wow it takes a long time to scroll and then it takes you right back to the top if you click away from the list (on Android) 5y
DGRachel @BarbaraBB I believe a Litsy set the suggested people to follow list to 150, so if the new people select everyone on their list, that‘s where that number comes from. 5y
Purrfectpages I posted about this as well. I‘m all for the community growing, but there does seem to be a big influx of new users who‘ve yet to post anything 🤷‍♀️ 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DGRachel @barbarabb That makes sense. It‘s much easier to “follow all” than to scroll through all of them. I‘m unsure about the percentage of bots in Litsy. It doesn‘t seem like a place where there‘d be many, but who knows? I like @rwmg ‘s idea of looking at TBR and Read books if they have no posts yet. I just wish they‘d post so I could say hello! And like @Kaye said, Litsy is a bit intimidating at first (& not always intuitive). 5y
BarbaraBB @DGRachel That makes sense! 5y
Sace @BarbaraTheBibliophage yeah, I kind of doubt there are lots of bots. A friend of mine went through some pretty bad online harassment (with sock puppets) a few years ago and I think it just made me paranoid and since this follow activity seemed out of the ordinary it weirded me out. Knowing there's a new feature puts my mind at ease. 5y
Litsy As other folks have mentioned, this is likely the result of the "Suggested Users to Follow" revamp. For new users, they're shown that screen during the process of setting up their account, which is why you're probably seeing a good number of brand new accounts following you. Sace @Litsy thank you! 5y

wanderinglynn I find it especially heartbreaking when I hear a teenager say that. Because most likely, some adult has turned them off of reading. 😔 6y
Cinfhen I think it‘s sad 6y
Chrissyreadit Yes. Heartbreaking. It is the reason I have the free bookshelf in my clinic. Trying to encourage more reading any way I can. 6y

Pickpick

Great short story book full of weird stories. Perfect for teens. Every story had a good ending that kids would learn from and understand .
