NYC is currently experiencing a heat wave. I like bringing a book with me on the train to stay cool! 🥵☀️📖
#unpopularopinion This had potential, but I think the author tried to be too clever. I don't object to multiple POVs as a rule, but this is basically Kihrin's story, told by three different people, including Kihrin. I found most of it boring and it's difficult to follow the time jumps, perspective shifts, footnotes, and similarly named characters in audio. It might work better in print. I don't care enough to try or read more in the series.
Ugh this was a monster of a book!! I finished it because it was for book club, but if it wasn‘t I would have bailed. The storyline is so confusing and all of the names of characters are similar. I can‘t even tell you what the book was about to be honest-that‘s how bad it was for me.
I have not been so obsessed and absorbed in a book in such a long time! I cannot quite pinpoint what it is about this story that is so intriguing to me, but I don‘t want to put it down. This is a library copy, but I will be getting my own copy soon. This one will be reread more than once.
I‘m struggling with this review because I really liked this book, but it was complicated, confusing and convoluted. This was by no means an easy read, but it kept me completely invested in the characters and story. I cautiously recommend it to those willing to put the effort into a wholly immersive read, in a strange world with demons and magic and violence and dragons. I‘m glad I only have to wait until fall for the next one. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Not going to get into specifics, but this book just addressed male statutory rape by an older woman in a simple, straightforward, empathetic and necessary way and it makes me so happy. This type of rape is rarely addressed and I think causes a lot more damage than popular culture would have you believe. Just all the yeses for this book right now.
I used the last of my Christmas gift cards on a book order I placed last weekend. Shipment one arrived today #bookmail 📫
Has anyone read any of these?
Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons was one wild ride! This first book in the series follows a Frankenstenian nested story format. This is a complex story, with brilliant world-building. It‘s full of intrigue, action and introspection that spans millennia and involves gods, demons, and dragons! It's wonderful in its own right, but I feel it didn't quite live up to the hype heaped upon it.

This book was ok....I really wanted to love this but it had so many characters, points of view, and other things, that it made it difficult to keep it all straight so I could really get into it. I have to say I did enjoy the ending, and since this is the first in the series maybe it will get better??
Rating: 1/5 Stars
I‘m just going to DNF this for now and maybe one day I‘ll listen to it as an audiobook. I only got 31 pages in and already dislike this novel. It has a lot of telling moments instead of seeing moments. And it is told in too many pov‘s and ranges from all different perspectives, which is annoying.

Went to Cape Cod this weekend and got some new books!!!
I finally sat down and made a reading plan for January. These are the ones that I really need/want to read. I am hoping to read more than the 5 books I have listed. Wish me luck!❤📚
You guys this book is a chunker!! I received this ARC from TOR publishing. Release date February 2019. I‘m so thankful for this book!!
Blurb: When Kihrin is claimed against his will as the long-lost scion of a prince, he finds that it isn‘t what the storybooks promised. The Storybooks also lied about other things, too: dragons, demons, gods and how the hero always wins. Maybe Kihrin isn‘t destined to save the empire but to destroy it.
I‘m loving The Ruin of Kings so far! It‘s very unique, in that multiple perspectives make up the story on each page and provide commentary throughout. It‘s also completely immersive; once it draws you in, it keeps you. 😍I‘m so excited to continue and see where this story takes me! Releasing 2/5/19
