The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown | Holly Black
Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown's gates, you can never leave. One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

Book 8 finished for #screamathon. 🎃 @4thhouseontheleft

This was a fun book about vampires, with some interesting changes to the typical vampire tale. Although I read lots of YA books, this one to me just didn't quite work. I'm sure a teen would disagree and love the teenage romance aspect, but it and the teen angst started to get on my nerves toward the end.

Okay I know I‘m likely in the minority, but this is the 2nd Holly Black book I‘ve read & I just can‘t quite get into it. I‘m 50% through this current read and thinking about bailing...

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I didn‘t love this either. Haven‘t tried any of her others (except maybe the first curse workers book - which was interesting but I haven‘t gotten around to reading the rest so...) 2mo
TheBookKeepers @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I read Cruel Prince & didn‘t like it either. It wasn‘t awful....just more like “eh” IMO. I know many ppl love her books, so maybe it‘s just me 😅 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @TheBookKeepers, nahhh, I think she‘s probably one of those authors I would have connected with if I was a teen when I first read her books... I feel meh about so many popular authors (Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Sarah J. Maas) and I‘m becoming more ok about it 😂 2mo
Johanna414 I struggle with her books - I usually really like the beginnings and then lose interest a third or halfway through and never finish them. The Cruel Prince is the only one of hers I‘ve finished so far, and I didn‘t love it. 2mo
TheBookKeepers Good to know I‘m not alone in this YA world! 🖤. I feel more validated in my bailing of this lol! @Johanna414 2mo

This was a great vampire novel. I wish there was a sequel to say what happened to Tana if she became a vampire or not. I really liked all the characters and the plot. Holly black is a great author of the creepy strange and weird.

KathyWheeler I‘m hoping she‘ll do a sequel as well. 4mo

I don‘t know why it took me so long to get to reading this one. I love Holly Black‘s books. I‘ve also always had a slight obsession with vampires. The world she creates could be ours - the characters are vivid and well developed. I loved Tana‘s bravery, and I really liked Gavriel, too. If you like a compelling vampire story, try this one!

For those of you closed due to cold, how cold does it have to get before that happens? And what are your normal average temps this time of year? I‘m super curious about this.
We are used to cold here, the above didn‘t count wind chill which on the ski mountain that day was -75. But -35 to those of us down in the valley.

JoScho Oh hell no! 9mo
Djspens We have -25 actual temps and -35 to -50 wind-chill predicted for tomorrow in eastern Iowa. I'm coming to work but will bring a book, expecting a very slowly work day! 9mo

I love Holly Black! I have only read her books about the Fae because I love old folklore and how she modernizes it. When I bought The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, I was a little hesitant because it was about Vampires and not the Fae. However, I did not need to worry because Holly Black created a beautiful story and did not disappoint!

P.S. This is the first e-book I have ever finished because I hate e-books usually lol.

So I finished it! It was not great but not bad. I‘m not much of a vampire person. This book presented both sides of vampirism, the horror and the romance. It was pretty gruesome. It was a good version of what would happen if this actually happened.

rjsthumbelina That was one of the things that I liked about it too: she didn't only glamorize vampires like these types of books normally do. She didn't shy away from more of the negative or gory aspects 11mo

BarbaraTheBibliophage @abbielistenstobooks @Slajaunie I loved Anne Rice back in the day. I‘m a few books behind on the ones she‘s released lately, though. Chicagoland Vampires series by Chloe Neill are good—not too much romance. And there are a lot of them, in case you enjoy them! 11mo
