Faint Cold Fear
Faint Cold Fear | Karin Slaughter
How close do you let a killer come?An apparent student suicide has brought medical examiner Sara Linton to the local college campus, along with her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver. But a horribly mutilated corpse yields up few answers. And a suspicious rash of subsequent "suicides" suggests that a different kind of terror is stalking the youth of Heartsdale, Georgia a nightmare that is coming to prey on Sara Linton's loved ones. A small town is being transformed into a killing ground. And the key to a sadistic murderer's motive and identity may be held in the unsteady hands of a campus security guard a former police detective driven from the force by the hellish memories that will never leave her. Lena Adams survived the unthinkable and has paid a devastating price. Now the survival of future victims may depend upon her . . . when she can barely protect herself."

#79 of my year! I aim to collect and read all of her books because they‘re so great. Going to go back towards the beginning and see what‘s been going on where I left off. This one is a Grant County series book number 3.

Caffeinated_Reader Dang. Karin Slaughter never disappoints. The whole story was heavy with suspense. The main focus wasn‘t really on Jeff & Sara which is a nice change of pace. And that ending. Holy hell. All and all another great read by this author. 3w

Loved the 3rd installment of Slaughter‘s Grant County series!! Not quite as graphic as the first 2 so that‘s a plus!! Really enjoyed the ending as well! Guess I will continue on with my new found love of Slaughter‘s books 💜

I can‘t get enough of Karin Slaughter! Loving the Grant County series. I couldn‘t figure this one out; suicide or murder? If murder, why? Is the killer a racist? What is the victim‘s family hiding? And what in the world is going on with Lena Adams?! Why is she making such horrible decisions?! I‘m glad the crimes were resolved...for the most part. Looking forward to the next one! #audiocoloring

Another good book in the Grant County series. I really struggled with Lena to the point that I almost couldn‘t finish because she ticked me off so much. But I did finish! I‘m glad I did. 🤗 One question for those who have read this... the very end? Lena? What?!?

CocoReads It‘s been a long time since I read these but I remember struggling with Lena as well. At some point I quit the series because I was pissed off (you‘ll know it when you get there) and actually quit her books all together, although I recently read one (not Grant County, I can‘t remember which) that made me remember what I liked about her writing. She really keeps you guessing! 7mo
MicheleinPhilly Lena is a maddening character. I was consistently giving her 😒. 7mo
Bookzombie I think that is why I have put off the last book in the Grant County series, but I plan to finish it this year. 7mo

In between pick and so-so. I liked the first two in the series far more. This one felt somehow hasty, not so well-thought out, and the plot was not that great. Lena‘s behavior was strange, but then again, I have no clue what would be considered normal behavior after what she has gone through. It felt like all the characters were on edge and acting strangely. I will definitely continue with book four though.

Christine11 Love this series 💛 8mo
larah17 I just read my first Karin Slaughter so might start on this series 😊 8mo
BarbaraBB I agree, it‘s definitely not as good as the first two instalments. I didn‘t like the fourth part much either but won‘t give up 😉 8mo

A bit disappointing, this 3rd in the Grand County series. I was pretty annoyed by especially Lena‘s behaviour, but also by Sara and Jeffrey‘s.
Also the plot wasn‘t that good, I always like when I can think along with the detective but this time the detective couldn‘t think straight and so neither could I!
I‘m not giving up yet on Slaughter though.

Cinfhen My daughter LOVES Karin Slaughter but I find her books a bit too gruesome 9mo

BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Yes they are really gruesome, with lots of mutilated genitals 😱😅 9mo
Liz_M I was confused by the juxtaposition of the nyrb-like cover and the author name! 9mo
BarbaraBB @Liz_M I can understand that. It looks like a NYRB cover. This is a publisher of ‘literary thrillers‘, whatever that may be 😉 9mo

Book 3 in the Grant County series and another solid read! The mystery of whodunnit lagged a bit towards the middle, but picked right back up at the end with a twist thrown in for good measure. Overall I got the feeling that this book was more about our core characters and their development - I don't understand Lena at all, but I can't deny that she's fascinating!

Second book finished for #24in48 and I'm just over 10 hours 📚

I decided that my last two posts sounded a bit whiny & it's Friday & after this dinner, I got nothing to complain about.😆😋I tried Ina Garten's Salmon Tacos with Cabbage-Cucumber Slaw & Avocado Mash. Quick, easy, delicious & on the blog tonight-so holler if you want a link to the recipe. I was going to read this book but these tacos are messy (& well worth it) so I watched the Late Night with Seth Meyers episode I DVR'd instead. #wildfridaynight

DebinHawaii @ferskner @EvieBee @Pamwurtzler I love Ina and have been watching her shows again too since my blogging group is cooking her recipes for six months. I 'chat' with her when I cook-mostly about making her recipes healthier for her & Jeffrey's sake.❤️😆But this is probably one of the healthier Ina recipes so I gave her big props last night. Sure, the conversations are in my head but I know she appreciates it! 🤣 2y

Tonight's veggie potsticker dinner-about the easiest thing that sounded good.😋I've had a front to back headache most of the day that finally eased up an hour ago so I'm trying to finish up this book as I have the next one on audio for about another week before I have to give it up. Does anyone else's library buy only some of the books in a series on audio? It drives me crazy!😖 Mine had 1, 2 & 4 on audio but not any of the rest of the series.🤔

Redwritinghood Yes, I‘ve come across that before. Why do they do that to us? 2y
DebinHawaii @Redwritinghood I don't know! I noticed they have done it with a few series. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

SandyW @DebinHawaii To get around that I have cards from three different libraries... mine, the neighboring city which is not part of my libraries system, and my mom's library card number (of course this only works for electronic stuff, but I hardly read printbooks any longer). 2y
DebinHawaii @Kappadeemom I really like her standalone books and I'm slowly making my way through her series and liking them too. 📚👍 2y
DebinHawaii @SandyW That's great! I wish I could do that but here we have a state library system that's one card for all-which is good for a wider selection of print books but doesn't help with the Overdrive selections. Maybe I need to find out my mainland family members' library card numbers! 😆👍 2y

This joke told at the end was the only good part of the book.

Overwrought descriptions, unbelievable plot, weak female characters masquerading as strong...I was not impressed. Yet I've read other books by this author and they were mildly entertaining, so I'll try another at some point.

I'm so obsessed with Karin Slaughter books lately! This wasn't my favorite so far, but I still couldn't stop turning pages. Lena's behavior felt off to me for most of the book-same with Jeffrey and Sara. By the end things felt okay-ish with this group again. (I just want everyone to be well and happy and get along!)

And that ending = WHOA.

Also I've been listening to these books on audio and I loooove them. The narrator is Kathleen Early.

Had to stop by the library to return a book & DVD & renew Farmer Boy for virtual foodie bookclub & while I didn't find any books to check out (I have enough at home from last week), I did manage to find two from my #TBR list at the library bookstore. I've been wanting to read My Life on the Road & I'm still about five people back in the waiting list for the A Faint Cold Fear e-book, so for $2, I'm happy with this mini #bookhaul.
