My April pick for #SeasonalCozies . It even includes tea time recipes! 🫖

A library setting and a librarian sleuth. What‘s not to like? A lot, sadly. The author can‘t decide what he wants to do with the book — cozy mystery, hardboiled detective novel, police procedural interspersed with soft porn. Ambler, our hero, is not that memorable; his police friend, Cosgrove, is not bright; and the women are stereotypes. The narrator of the audio would be perfect if this were a Sam Spade novel, but it‘s not, so he‘s awkward.

This collection suffers a little in the compilation, I think. By the end, they seemed like the same story with just some details being changed. It also leads me to believe that everyone in England hates each other. I‘m giving it a pick for the craft, but maybe leave some reading time between stories. In any event, it‘s back in the LFL.

Meanwhile, I‘ve finished one lonely Real Simple issue so far this month.

Pickpick

Sr Fidelma is on a pilgrimage to Spain by sea. Another pilgrim, Sr Muirgel, vanishes during a storm and it is assumed that she was swept overboard. However, Fidelma finds a torn and bloodied robe in Muirgel's cabin.

Lots of interesting information about 7th c. travel. I am a bit sceptical about the “Roman church bad Celtic church good“ stance in some of the interactions between the passengers but it wasn't enough to spoil an enjoyable story.

I may regret this, because obviously I don't have enough buddy reads going on 😂, but is anyone interested in reading the Trixie Belden books with me? I'm thinking very similar to the Nancy Drew readalong - one book a month with a few discussion posts? Since we read ND in the first half of the month and discuss on the 15th, I'm thinking Trixie in the second half and discuss on the 30th?

If yes, start this month or in April?

@LitsyEvents

Nebklvr I think i only have one. I loved Trixie Belden (edited) 1w
bookandbedandtea I thought I had a few of these but I just checked and they're Dana Girls books. This group read sounds fun but I think I'll skip it for now. 1w
BookmarkTavern Oh that would be so fun! I‘m in! 1w

TheAromaofBooks @curiouserandcurioser @BookmarkTavern - I think it is just the three of us who are interested!!! Would you like to read The Secret of the Mansion in April and I'll post a discussion spot somewhere over the last weekend of the month? 2d
BookmarkTavern Absolutely! My mom and I read these books together years ago! I cannot wait to revisit them. 💖 1d
TheAromaofBooks @curiouserandcurioser @BookmarkTavern - Yay!! Let's do it then!!! I really loved these back in the day so I'm super interested to see how they've aged 😂 I had such a crush on Brian of all people haha 1d

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

I stumbled upon the short story that looks at Agatha‘s first case, way before she moves to the Cotswolds. It was okay. Short stories are hard for me, as I much prefer the development from a novel, but it was an interesting intro to Agatha Raisin. The audio is not a Penelope Keith audio, so I really missed her narration of this. #BBRC #Adult #LongStoryShort #52BookClub24 #AnApostropheInTheTitle

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 4w
LibrarianRyan Really. I had no idea this novella existed. Inusually love novellas. I like to see what an author can do in such few pages. 3w
Librarybelle @LibrarianRyan It came out a few years ago, before Beaton passed away. Her last few books she wrote were not the best in the series. 3w

Hey all! Three of these are “leftovers” from this round, three are new. Do any of these catch your eye? 👀😊

I‘m including page counts FYI. I think all have decent reviews.

bookandbedandtea @robinb Dangerous Duet, Recovery Agent, and Death Below Stairs all sound great to me. 1mo
robinb @bookandbedandtea 😊👍👍👍 1mo
TheAromaofBooks I'm good with any of these. I think I'd give an edge to Recovery Agent and Wrong Place, Wrong Time. 1mo
Jerdencon All sound good - my favorites would be a dangerous duet and blind justice. 1mo
robinb OK, these two seem to be most popular. It really doesn‘t matter to me so cast your vote. 🎉😊 @TheAromaofBooks @bookandbedandtea @Jerdencon 1mo
Jerdencon I‘ll vote for dangerous duet but the other one is fine too 1mo
TheAromaofBooks I'll vote for Recovery Agent and let @bookandbedandtea cast the deciding vote 😂 I'm fine with Dangerous Duet as well. I don't usually read historical mysteries, but maybe that would make this one a good change of pace haha 1mo
robinb OK, @bookandbedandtea looks like you‘re the deciding vote…no pressure! 😂😂😂 1mo
bookandbedandtea @robinb @Jerdencon @TheAromaofBooks Y'all are giving me anxiety! Since Sarah isn't fond of historical, and I'm going the Evanovich will be funny, I'll vote for Recovery Agent. 😬 1mo
robinb @bookandbedandtea Evanovich it is! And yes, I assume some humor is on the horizon with her. 😉😉 1mo
TheAromaofBooks @bookandbedandtea - you did great under pressure! 😂 I'll post a few options for my pick this weekend!! 1mo
