#BookMail Pt6 I came across Brandon Sanderson when he ghostwrote the last volumes of The Wheel Of Time. I still think he did an awful job, but I think that anybody except Robert Jordan himself wasn‘t good enough to finish that. So I‘m giving him another chance. A lot of people rave about his Mistborn series, so we‘ll see whether I enjoy him writing his own material. Are you a Sanderson fan? Let me know what you think about his work & his WOT work.

Jovy I‘m a fan! Haven‘t completed WoT but I loved the Mistborn trilogy. What got me hooked is 7h
vivastory I haven't read WoT, but I loved Mistborn. These editions are so much better than the American trade paperback. 7h
Owlizabeth I‘m really into the Stormlight Archive, I think there‘s 10 planned and 3 are out. 3h

It feels impossible for Brandon Sanderson to write a bad fantasy novel. This is another wonderful read by him. The plot, characters, and world building are spot on. It is based 300 years after the original Mistborn trilogy and it is fantastic! ❤️

Haven‘t been able to read much because of my new job but so happy I had a drive to St. Louis to fit this one in!

Some long books feel like no effort at all. THE WELL OF ASCENSION is an 800-pager that absolutely FEELS like an 800-pager. In theory, it covers interesting territory: what do you do after you‘ve conquered the Dark Lord? In practice, the answer is rather slow and decidedly less engaging than the heist Sanderson delivered in MISTBORN.

It does end on a note that should excite me, but given my response to THIS exciting-in-theory premise... well.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I‘m planning on reading Hero of Ages in *checks notes* September. I hope he finishes strong. 2w
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Bisecting Straff Venture would have been a much better moment if he hadn‘t been riding a horse at the time. Poor horse. 2w
xicanti @TobeyTheScavengerMonk fingers crossed for both of us. I‘m waiting on the audiobook and it should be available to me in a month or less. 2w

I‘m finally in the home stretch with THE WELL OF ASCENSION after my morning #audiowalk with Casey, and I‘ve twisted back around to where I just wish it was over. Sadness. I‘ll definitely read THE HERO OF AGES to see where everything comes out, but I‘m pretty sure I won‘t revisit the series again because twice was enough where TWoA is concerned.

cherinium That spot looks gorgeous. I wouldn't mind setting up my hammock somewhere just like that to read (and possibly nap) the afternoon away. 🌻🌻🌻 2w
xicanti @cherinium it‘s a lovely pond with a pathway and a park nearby! This time of year there are lots of baby geese to squee over, too. 2w

I meant to paint one wall of my bedroom today, but I didn‘t have the energy after I‘d scrubbed it and filled the holes. Instead, I played furniture Tetris and managed to get enough space for a reading nook in my closet! I still need to find a tiny table and a lamp, and hang some art, but at least I know the idea‘s viable. I‘ll be glad to have a comfy, private place to read indoors.

Bonus: the chair‘s got a great view of my TV, too.

Mimi28 That‘s awesome!! 😎😎 2w
xicanti And OF COURSE I had my audiobook on through all this manual labour. Honestly, I think complaining about THE WELL OF ASCENSION made it better. It‘s still nowhere near as much My Thing as MISTBORN, but it feels a bit more engaging than it did two days ago. 2w
xicanti @Mimi28 I can‘t wait to use it! 2w

I've heard such good things! Am I an idiot for not pushing through the first couple hundred pages?

EastWind76 Not an idiot. I loved the series, but it's not for everyone. :) 2w
AutumnRLS There are really great parts and the trilogy all together is super interesting where it ends up going plot-wise, but I remember feeling like other parts really lagged. You do you. No reading shame! 2w
wordslinger42 I started this but didn't make it past the first hundred or so pages. It just didn't appeal! 2w

'What if the Dark Lord actually won?'. A brilliant start to this series. Never read Brandon Sanderson before, but definitely going to delve into his vast back catalogue after this gem!

Casey and I saw lots of storm sky on our morning #audiowalk. It‘s supposed to rain alllllll afternoon, with lots of thunder and lightning. That doesn‘t bode well for the kids‘ sports day we went past.

I‘m a bit more than 40% into this reread now, and I don‘t think I like the book any better than I did the first time. It isn‘t BAD, but it doesn‘t engage me the same way MISTBORN did and that makes it feel more disappointing than it probably is.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Having finished Well of Ascension for the first time a couple weeks ago, it ain‘t just you. 2w
xicanti @TobeyTheScavengerMonk to be honest, I‘ve never finished the Mistborn series because I knew I‘d have to reread this one and I wasn‘t super eager. I hope THE HERO OF AGES does more for me. 2w
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Without the heist structure + Vin learning her powers this one lost so much narrative drive. Plus there‘s just not anybody as interesting as Kelsier. I‘ll be tackling Hero in a few months and I hope so too. 2w

It‘s up to 34 already, AND it‘s a bit cloudy! This is my favourite weather. Heat‘s great but the sun and I don‘t really get along.

I took a nice lunchtime #audiowalk on which I bought a local beer the Liquor Mart teller recommended. I‘ll look forward to drinking it tonight.
