Daughter and I are having a read-in evening at our lake house. She‘s reading the tagged book and I‘m reading Powers of Darkness, the Swedish version of Dracula. I‘ve finally just reached Part 2. This book is massive.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 people in my bookclub have never read a Stephen King book! So I thought I‘d rectify that. On Instagram so many people gushed about this being one of their top 5 SK books. Then I realised they were all dudes! Yes this was a tad long but SK tells a bloody good story and it‘s so well researched. But now to this view. This is the pool on the 22nd floor of my hotel overlooking Hong Kong harbour. Stunning!
I enjoyed this short story; it was an interesting blend of steampunk, fantasy (sans the elves & dwarfs), and Arabic culture. I especially liked the cosmic horror and ancient Egyptian elements. I'm wanting more so much that my very next read will be something else from the Dead Djinn Universe!
This might be the worst novel I've ever read. Hitler escaped to Argentina at the end of WWII, and now, at the age of ninety, Israeli nazi hunters have found him and have to figure out what to do with him. One would think that it would be hard to mess up a novel with such an interesting plot, but Steiner does just that. Until the last six pages of the book, NOTHING. HAPPENS. I only found that out by looking for spoilers on Goodreads. #2025Book48
This spooky cloud reminded me of a Ku Klux out of the fabulous novella Ring Shout. Happy Halloween!

My first #Kobo e-reader arrived yesterday. I've been breaking it in with "A Dead Djinn in Cairo" by P. Djèlí Clark ??
Any Kobo fans / users out there?

The allegory isn‘t subtle, but I think that‘s kind of the point. Upright Women Wanted is a rallying cry for communities living in persecution in Trump‘s America. Using the iconography of the Western genre, Gailey galvanises readers with a Handmaid‘s Tale-esque story of secret rebellion and guerilla warfare. Wolf by Wolf was action packed and entertaining but I loved its sequel even more. Yael and an unlikely group of allies fight to maintain the momentum of the resistance which means going back to the source of the project that made her. Delving deeper into the characters‘ pasts and motivations while still maintaining the action makes Blood for Blood a richer reading experience. A satisfying conclusion to an excellent duology!

The world is without magic, but that's not the way it's always been, and the folks at D.O.D.O. would like to see magic restored. Full of twists and turns, like ancient Vikings obsessed with Walmart, a Kit Marlow who's not quite so dead, some backstabbing & betrayal, a "will you just get together already" romance, & witches of all kinds, this is a rollicking romp of a read blending quantam theory with magic to bring the reader on a heck of a ride.
