#PlayDead #AngelaMarsons #GroupRead #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2023

A 'body farm' investigating human decomposition, its inhabitants are corpses in various states of decay. But when Detective Kim Stone and her team discover the fresh body of a young woman, it seems a killer has discovered the perfect cover to bury their crime.

EadieB Then a second girl is attacked and left for dead, her body drugged and mouth filled with soil. It's clear to Stone and the team that a serial killer is at work - but just how many bodies will they uncover? And who is next? As local reporter, Tracy Frost, disappears, the stakes are raised. The past seems to hold the key to the killer's secrets - but can Kim uncover the truth before a twisted, damaged mind claims another victim ...? 12mo
EadieB This book is a bit different from the other books in the series. Some of the info was kept back from the reader with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end. It makes it difficult to solve if you don't get all the info you need. A great number of characters kept showing up and some with only first names. It was hard to keep all the characters straight. Hopefully, I will enjoy the next book better than this one. 12mo
Andrew65 A good and accurate review. There seemed a lack of developing characterisation for the main characters too. Didn‘t take us any further forward with any of the characters. 12mo

persephone1408 Matched sounds fine too 2y
Meshell1313 Would love to read Matched. That‘d be my first choice but I‘m good with any! I‘ve read Clockwork but it‘s one of my favs so wouldn‘t mind it either! I love it all! 2y
coffeewithbooks I‘m cool with matched to . Let‘s see what @kimmypete1 says . Also , should we pick a color we want to annotate with? 2y
kimmypete1 I read matched a long time ago, but would totally be up to a reread! 2y
persephone1408 @coffeewithbooks @kimmypete1 @Meshell1313 if we are picking a color, I would like purple. 😁 2y
coffeewithbooks @persephone1408 sound good. I like to have pink if that okay. How do y‘all like to annotate your books? Is there anything you don‘t want inside your book? @kimmypete1 @Meshell1313 (edited) 2y
kimmypete1 @coffeewithbooks I‘d like aqua! I have no annotation preferences. :) @Meshell1313 @persephone1408 2y
Meshell1313 @kimmypete1 @coffeewithbooks @persephone1408 I‘ll do orange 🍊! No annotation preferences here! Let‘s go nuts! I‘ll prob use a combo of in text writing and orange post its to match. 2y
persephone1408 @kimmypete1 @Meshell1313 @coffeewithbooks no annotation preferences, I'm cool with whatever. 2y

I struggled with the dry, professorial tone Jones uses, but the content of the stories is terrific. Think of it as a series of mini-biographies starting in the mid 1800s and moving to current day. Black women found unique and powerful ways to work for equality—especially but not exclusively their own. They taught, wrote, preached, and of course, protested.

vlwelser Great review. I feel the same way about it (though I'm not finished). 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @vlwelser Thanks! I had to get it back to the library, since I‘d already renewed it once. 🤪 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes…totally agree 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa But I‘m so glad I read it. And for you gathering all these great #SheSaid books and readers together! 2y

When I announced my group read for The 1619 Project this morning, I did not think that the Rittenhouse verdict would so closely follow. Not guilty, of course. 😡 None of us should be surprised. This is what our current justice system, entrenched in systemic racism, was designed to do.

If you missed my earlier #groupread announcement, it's the post right before this one. We'll start the #1619GroupRead in January.

Stay angry, fight on.

I'm excited to announce that I will be hosting a #GroupRead of The 1619 Project in 2021!

We will start sometime in January (exact date TBD) and run through May, and will read and discuss one essay each week. I have set up a Google form with all the information, which you can read and sign up here: https://forms.gle/kZVEfqQDprxYEkcPA

If you plan on participating, please comment below if you prefer starting on Jan 1 or Jan 8. #1619GroupRead

alisiakae Due to the nature of the topic, I have set up a few guidelines below to ensure that our group read is a safe space for everyone, especially BIPOC Littens. Agreeing to the guidelines is a requirement for participating in the group read. I think we will have some incredible conversations about this powerful book! 2y

ncsufoxes I just ordered a copy the other day. I‘m excited to participate, this way I‘ll also read it instead of sitting on my shelf. Looking forward to some engaging, thoughtful, & meaningful discussions. 2y
alisiakae @ncsufoxes I'm glad you're joining in! 2y
JenReadsAlot I'm going to sign up but some times fail at participating 🤦‍♀️ I ordered the book! 2y
Butterfinger @megnews @MallenNC @Riveted_Reader_Melissa did you see this? I couldn't remember the other people who participated in #400Souls @AnneCecilie 2y
Butterfinger Never mind @megnews I should read comments before assuming. 😘 2y
Butterfinger I definitely will. 2y
MallenNC @Butterfinger No I hadn‘t seen it! Thanks for tagging me. I‘d love to read with a group. I can start either day. 2y
MallenNC @ncsufoxes These group reads help me the same way. Otherwise the books sometimes sit on my shelves much longer than I intend. 2y
alisiakae @JenReadsAlot I definitely know what it‘s like to not finish a challenge or busy read. ☺️ Join in when you can! I‘ll post a reading a schedule soon. 2y
alisiakae @Butterfinger I just went down the rabbit hole of #400souls posts, I missed that buddy read when it happened! 2y
alisiakae @MallenNC glad you‘re joining! 2y
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks Thank you for leading this. I would prefer we start on January 8, but whatever works for the you! 2y
megnews @Butterfinger yes and I forgot to post tonight. I‘ll post tomorrow. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @megnews No problem, I finally caught up with that one 😉🤣 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa And I‘m in…sign me up! 2y
Chrissyreadit My desire to read is high, I will sign up but I‘m not 100% sure I will get it done. 2y
Zuhkeeyah I‘m in. It‘s on my nonfiction list and would love to do it with a group. Prefer Jan 8th as the start date. (edited) 2y

alisiakae @Chrissyreadit join in whenever you can, that is okay! 2y

Readergrrl I‘m so eager to join! January 8 would be great, but I‘m easygoing! Whatever works best! 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m in! Will get myself a copy ASAP. 2y
alisiakae @BarbaraTheBibliophage Yay! Maybe we can recruit @Cinfhen too 😃😃 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen For sure … if she‘s up for it! 2y
PurpleyPumpkin I'm signing up! Such an important read. Thanks for organizing! 2y
Cinfhen Right now I‘m only able to get the audio copy for the 1619 project. I‘m not sure if audio is the right way to go for such an in-depth study/ group read?! 2y
katy4peas I‘m in for the read but might be in and out for the discussion. Thanks for hosting this. 2y
ChaoticMissAdventures I am signing up! No preference on start date, just really would love to read this with an ability to discuss thank you for hosting this. 2y
alisiakae @Cinfhen I can mail you a copy if you want! 2y
Cinfhen That‘s such a generous offer but mailing books to Israel, especially hardcovers is really expensive. I hope to be in the states, February so maybe I can join then. 2y
Bookish_Gal Just picked my copy up. Holding it in my hands really sent it home what the book says it‘s about. I don‘t have a preference on start dates 2y
staci.reads Is it too late for me to join? I'd love to be a part of this. 2y
alisiakae @staci.reads of course not! I‘ll tag you on the reading schedule, we don‘t start for another few weeks. Just make sure to fill out the Google form so I can add you to the tag list. 2y

I couldn‘t possible love this book more! The topic is both timely and relevant, even though the book covers decades of music and social history. And Geffen does an amazing job of analyzing musical styles and musicians‘ personal experiences and choices. Their writing has some truly luminous moments as well. Thank you @daniwithtea for adding it to our #nfornonfiction #groupread !

I'm looking for a July #buddyread or #groupread. Any suggestions? So often I feel like I don't have time for these, but I'll be a month out from starting my MLIS program and still not doing any theatre projects. I have a back log of #botm books, so if there are any discussions around one of those happening, that would be great, but I'm pretty open to anything.

#bookclub #julyreading

Megabooks I believe @TheBookHippie and @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks are doing The Comeback, which was a BOTM choice (and great book!) for #SundayBuddyRead in July! Christine/Misty, can you verify? (edited) 3y
TheBookHippie I am doing one ! I lead #SUNDAYBUDDYREAD you‘re welcome to join us ! I tagged you on the post. 3y
TheBookHippie @Megabooks I lead it alone now 🤍 we are doing an old BOTM book. 3y

Megabooks @TheBookHippie I‘m sorry I didn‘t notice that you were doing it solo! I hear such great things about it, but I am horrible at reading books slowly!! (Or at least what would be slowly for me.) 💜💜 3y
TheBookHippie @Megabooks 🤍 we love it! I often hide the book from myself ! 3y
megnews ⬆️ just started and flying through. Also check out #literarycrew and #SheSaid. 3y
cornfedwellread Thanks, @TheBookHippie, @Megabooks, and @megnews! I tried to track down a library copy of The Comeback, but they were all checked out. Maybe I can join in the later Sunday conversations. I'll also look for The Women of Chateau Lafayette. 3y
