I thought I‘d like it more but it was just okay for me. Pacing and plot issues and at times the characters felt flat. Not bad overall, but the pieces just didn‘t come together enough to love it.

I really wasn‘t expecting how much I would enjoy this book as I did. I went into reading it just to be “in the know” about this TikTok YA famous book, and with no plans to finish the trilogy. Oh, how wrong I was. Other than not being a fan of the “enemies to lovers” and “one bed” tropes found in many YA books, this one so far is an exception. I was very excited for this book. Based on the synopsis it should have been right up my alley. The writing was pretty good but the plot had major pacing issues and the story didn't become interesting until 3/4 through the book. If I hadn't already bought the rest of the series I probably wouldn't continue with it.

I finally went to check out one of the libraries near where I live now and wow! What an awesome place!

I didn't check out any physical books this time, but I did get my shiny new library card, got it entered in Libby, and checked out a digital copy of Serpent & Dove.

Decided to do an audiobook. Taking this upon suggestion. Let's see how it goes.

Rereading Serpent and Dove since book 3 came out at the end of last month.

This ya fantasy was a soft pick for me. It seemed a little too predictable in places. Sometimes the characters did things that seemed out of character for them which made me feel like it was done just to move the plot along. But I did enjoy it. It kept my attention, kept me turning pages, and the world building was very good. I‘ll definitely be reading the next one!

Just read the first chapter and already in love!

This is a book I picked up and put down time and time again. The story sounded interesting, but I was worried it would fall into the repetitive tropes. However, this is a well crafted story of enemies to lovers. There is a little bit of everything mixed in. Daring heists, action, friendship, sisterhood, proof that love can be a powerful magic and so much more.

Speedy listen while at work mixing paint! I expected little from a plot that has been extensively done, but it was a great story. I loved the bits of French in there, and the references to the church (as a catholic who is resentful of the way the church historically handled things - i.e fucked up everyone‘s lives), and the way the author worked magic into this whole new universe while making it so familiar! Diving into the second book soon!

Some new books I got yesterday! #tbr

Incredibly impressed with this book. Not only because I lost myself in the pages (read in pretty much 1 sitting) but because how the story seems so perfect for today‘s terms. Both side of a war saying they are god the other is evil, black and white. Period. This almost felt like a modern Romeo and Juliet flushed more. Lou and Reid. Except they are a slow burn enemies to lovers. I love Lou so much: brazen, wild teen who doesn‘t conform to the mold

Alright. I‘m hooked line and sinker at this point. Just keeps going so well, can‘t even tell how fast I‘ve been reading.

Alright. Gave in to picking up this highly sought after book when I saw it on the discount pile. So it‘s a fantasy romance between a church witch-hunter and a witch (hidden because, you know, the church hates witches) enemies to lovers, hopefully not just because of their forced marriage to each other. Not sure where I stand with it, as I‘m not a big romancer, but I‘ve been hearing just so much about it. Almost all good, so I‘m ready to try it

A witch and a witchhunter end up having to marry each other. Reid doesn't know that Lou is a witch but she tries to hid it. Basically the witches and the church have been against each other for centuries. This is an enemies to lovers and fantasy. It is the first in a trilogy. I enjoyed it and will read book 2nd! #books

I just didn‘t care… about the characters, the world, anything. Disappointing, especially since the other #newyearwhodis picks I‘ve read from @AbigailJaneBlog have been great! Hmm… those had queer romances so maybe that‘s the difference. 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

Umm, the heck? A paragraph or at least a line is missing. I reread the last couple pages to make sure, and they don‘t encounter anyone else on their walk. Did anyone else have an issue with this book? I hope it doesn‘t happen again.

On her Instagram, the author says that Serpent & Dove is 2.99 on all ebook platforms till the end of January! If you haven‘t read it, I highly recommend. NA/YA (Lou is 19? And there is sex), enemies to lovers situation, he is a church soldier trained to find witches, she is a witch in disguise (because back story), and all French in nature. Lots of fun. I haven‘t read the sequel yet, but I remember loving this one! #ebook #reccomendation

Okay so this ENDING!!! I am so glad it ended the way it did. It would have been very easy for Mahurin to wrap things up and just resolve all the issues with magic. For a YA fantasy romance, I‘d say the emphasis is more on the romance than the fantasy but I had so much fun! Overall, I‘d say the world building could be better but that is is a great escapist read. 4.5⭐️/5

I found this 10 hr ambient music and rain video featuring Breath of The Wild music and it‘s my absolute favorite to play while reading.

So... I was kinda joking when I said I wasn‘t going to leave my couch today... but then I couldn‘t put this down. I‘ve read many books that have been good, fun, and emotional but this book makes me GIDDY. Like squealing and kicking giddy. Wow. I‘m having so much fun.

There‘s nothing quite like crawling under my weighted blanket with a new book and knowing tomorrow is Friday. Has anyone else‘s week been crazy? I felt like I haven‘t been able to give this new book the attention I want to. I can‘t seem to focus for more than 20 pages at a time. Here‘s to relaxing weekend reading 💖

Time for a little fantasy 🪄 new book starts tonight!!!

Though it did take me a while to get into the story, ultmately I liked the storyline. I felt that Mahurin's pace at the beginning was fast. A lot was going on and I felt she rushed the characters marrying to get to the actual storyline. However, once we get passed the beginning, the story does not feel rushed and I was able to enjoy what I was reading.

Decided to give a quick reread before finally moving on to the next book, foolishly thinking this was a duology NOT a trilogy 🤦‍♀️ At least the final book is out this year.

Still loved this as much as the first time. Quick to read, enemies pushed together, slow burn plus witches! Everything I need for a #CozyRead

Witches and witch hunters. Typical story of enemies turn lovers in a made up marriage. I was surprised by some revelations but I didn‘t care much for the story. Well written though, plot is ok, clean cut story. Told from the PoV of both male and the female protagonists. Ending is good enough to leave the book at that. I won‘t however be reading the next one in this series. But it was not bad at all.
