Once There Were Wolves | Charlotte McConaghy
post image
Pickpick

First book I read by this author and I will say I liked the writing style and the story, at least this one. There is a murder and people in the remote Highlands blame the wolves. Inti knows that this attack was not made by the wolves, then by who. She is working with a team to protect the wolves but this project is not well received by the community. But the story is more than that, is about Inti, who can be seen as unlikable character⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)..difficult, confrontative person. But then you know about her sister, her relationship with her mother, her father, and you will have another perspective of the whole situation, why she doesn‘t trust others why is difficult for her to be receptive to new relationships. All those situations in only 256 pages. Wow! That was amazing as a writer. There are some triggers like sexual abuse/assault. 4/4.5⭐️ 3mo
Gissy I forgot, it is a slow pace reading.

This book did not work for me. I know that with Oyeyemi, you just have to let the writing wash over you, and there will be times you have no idea what is "happening" in the plot. This novel was true to form in that regard. I found the use of Shakespearen and Mythical names heavy-handed. I still enjoy her writing, but this novel was a miss. 2 ?

Another slow pace reading, character driven story. Set part in London and part in Ireland. Two time lines. Olivia inherited her grandfather‘s bookshop and there is a photo of two girls and a manuscript that connect these girls with her grandmother who has now Alzheimer. These girls claimed that they saw fairies. Olivia will search the truth behind the photos. Also about family relations/secrets, second chances and what is home for Olivia⬇️

Gissy The story is so pretty but I can understand that is not for everyone. I really enjoyed it. Love the audiobook because of the Irish accent and traditions mentioned here. This book has been in my tbr forever😳but I finally I read it. There some gifts I liked in this box. 3.8/4⭐️

What I enjoyed of this story was the psychological analysis made for almost every single main characters. How well those dysfunctional personalities were described by that time. They were analyzing each other😂 Also I liked that Poirot analyzed the “suspects” from different angles to support or discard his involvement in the crime. I still think the end was a little rushed. But how arrogant, narcissistic Poirot is, what a character☺️3.8⭐️

Gissy I will be late in all the Readathons I‘m participating but I will read the books, I‘m a slow reader🤷🏽‍♀️

YEAR IN REVIEW- 2022 Goals
📚I did surpass my #Goodreads book goal : 96 of 70.
📚Read 7 of 12 nonfiction
📚Got about half of the PopSugar Challenge prompts
📚Read 3 books with HOUSE in the title for my #BuzzWord challenge
📚Did not finish the book I‘m reading one chapter a day.
I like the challenge of setting goals but don‘t stress if I don‘t meet them 😉. It‘s all about picking the next book from the #TBR. Time to set next year‘s!

Chloe‘s father is doing time in prison, accused of six murders. Twenty years later, other girls are missing using the same method as her father used in the murders. A copycat maybe? More than one suspect. I suspected of that character but then I focused on another character. The end was maybe predictable but for me was an interesting twist. The author urgently needs accurate information about forensic psychology as a profession😳🤦🏽‍♀️3.8⭐️

The Woman in the Library | Sulari Gentill

Mehso-so

I have mixed feelings with this one. I liked and enjoyed very much the way the story was developed, narrated. A book story within a book story. I liked how Freddie describes the idea to develop her characters and the story. While she is in the library, she observes 3 peoples, their actions, physical appearances and a story is developed. Then, all of them will be connected for the sound of a scream and the story will start from there.⬇️

Gissy Which story will start after the scream? I think this idea was so great. I liked the mystery, how the events were intertwined and how I suspected from each character. However, I think that the last part of the story was a little bit rushed and abrupt. 3.5⭐️I had a hunch about that particular character. But I still liked how Freddie developed the story. I think writers use that method, they must see actions and behaviors from another perspective. 2y

Another thriller that I really enjoyed. A boarding school with an elite group of students with cuestionable morale. Family drama with a disappearance of a family member, a suicide, betrayals and a murder. Is everything connected? Who is lying? What would you do just to keep your image and power? Is everything related with this elite group? It was a fast read. I couldn‘t put it down. A particular situation was so unrealistic to me. 3.8/4⭐️
