The Dispossessed: A Novel | Ursula K. Le Guin

This novel felt a little dated and had long passages of political theory that I didn't completely absorb, but otherwise, it was an excellent story contrasting two worlds that differed greatly in geography, social norms and political structure.

It gave me lots to thin about and I'm looking forward to the #ClassicLSFBC discussion. @RamsFan1963

kwmg40 This was my third and final book finished for #JoyousJanuary. Didn't meet all my goals but still happy with the progress. Thanks to @Andrew65 for hosting!

I am so glad I finally picked up this one. The final #Manawake novel offers a fascinating dive into #Canadian history and introduces a bunch of fantastic characters. We all need a Christie, Jules, Ella and Pique in our lives and a Morag of course. Narrator of this great book and what a woman! She is tough and authentic and a real literary heroine if you ask me.

squirrelbrain Love the pic! I‘ve only read one by this author and I should really read more! 13mo
batsy Great review! Your last sentence—I absolutely agree. Morag's a tough, prickly character and I first read this about 20 years ago and I've never forgotten her. 13mo
vivastory Fantastic review. The read through of Laurence's books remains one of my favorite buddy reads. I loved seeing all of the connections from previous books in this one. 13mo
LeahBergen Wonderful review! And just what @vivastory said: this was such a great series to read together. 🥰 13mo

A book that after a very short first paragraph has the sentence “I shot him between thee eyes”, certainly gets my attention. Then it looks into how they met, got married and had a family and how the marriage fell about. This book covers a lot in just 120p.

1st book done for #JubilantJuly

Librarybelle That would certainly get my attention too! 2y

Brilliant. Upsetting, but brilliant writing. Bullies use psychological and physical abuse to entertain themselves. Ugly. Even the teachers can't be trusted. Just as relevant now as it was in #1974.

An excellent reworking of ‘Othello‘, set in an elementary school in Washington DC. Marvellously observes and elegantly written, this is a great success, and my favourite volume so far in the Hogarth Shakespeare series to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Bard‘s death. #tracychevalier #newboy #shakespeare #hogarthshakeapeare #williamshakeapeare #othello #racism #prejudice #school #hatred #envy #jealousy #1974

Really caught up in this marvellous retelling of Othello, set in a Washington elementary school in 1974. Excellently written, and utterly engrossing. #tracychevalier #newboy #williamshakespeare #othello #washingtondc #1974 #literature #hogarthshakespeare #shakespeare #politics #racism #antisemitism #prejudice #workdbookday2018
