#HumbleHarvest Day 17: Not really #Corn but Uni #Corn. Things were going just fine and dandy for Goat until Unicorn moved in. Goat thought he was pretty special with his bicycle, nearly-perfect marshmallow squares, his signature dance moves. Then Unicorn with his shimmering flight, his storm of cupcakes, and professional prancing moves continually steal Goat‘s spotlight, albeit without really intending to. This adorable and vibrant RF book discuses themes of friendship, jealousy, and individuality with differences! With the world continuing to accept and embrace differences every day, this book is perfect for all elementary grades, as it is a pivotal theme we want our students to understand.

AlexRobinson This book would be great for a PR. Due to the two characters going back and forth through out the book with it ending in friendship and embracing differences in one another, it would be perfect for students to read together and discuss their differences as well as what makes them, them! 3y
AlexRobinson Here is a great link to not only why we partner read but how to make it most effective as well as a video demonstration, focusing on steps 1-6: https://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/partner_reading. The UDL guidelines observed could be 8.3 and 9.3 (fostering collaborating and developing self-assessment and reflection). (edited) 3y
AlexRobinson EL strategies that could be infused with this book could be: 16 and 32 (intergrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activists as well as using student pairs for team learning). These guidelines and strategies will promote collaborate efforts, inclusion, and celebrating individuality! #ucflae3414sp21 3y

I‘m really looking forward to discussing this book with ya‘ll on May 17 #MaYBeNow #BuddyRead

I was easily transported back to NYC late 1980‘s before cellphones, Google and those early days of the AIDS epidemic when there was so much paranoia & misinformation. First half of book was stronger than the second half but still plenty to unravel. A young girl secretly befriends her uncle‘s partner after he passes from AIDS.

BarbaraBB I‘ll move it up my tbt to get to it sooner! 4y
Cinfhen I read it in 2 days @BarbaraBB It‘ll make for great discussion 💚 4y

This F story would be a great storytelling for young readers. It is about a spoon and how he compares himself to his other friends like fork and knife. Little does he know they admire him for what he does. He learns at the end all of they things he should be grateful for. The UDL Principle I would choose for this book is (3.2) highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. This will help students through the story.

LizzettM The EL strategy 11, place language in meaningful context will guide them on what the theme of the story is.

DrSpalding We saw this as a storytelling! I love it. Consulting the author website is always a wise move. Expand on what you would use there in a classroom of your own. 4y

Toads and Diamonds | Charlotte S. Huck

“On the day of her wedding to the prince, as Renée spoke her marriage vows, better jewels nor flowers fell from her lips, for now she had no longer needed them.”

Traditional. This is essentially a different version of the classic Cinderella tale, making the story perfect for young children. It‘s silly but still has a message and is easy to follow and engage a classroom of children.
