DNF'd at 39%. I honestly just got tired of waiting for the actual horror to start and didn't care for the Desperate Housewives Shlock Shtishow.

Lynette could have been interesting if her actual trauma was explored instead of her behaving like a freak all the time (her casually saying how she would shoot a child is wild to me). Some plot points in the book were so unrealistic.

So I decided to start the year off with a lot of spice… And yes, a lot of dark spice, but I‘m not mad at it. But it‘s not all spicy and I think I have a good mix to start this year off right. #BookSpinBingo #NewYearNewReads

I couldn‘t pick just 3 for #ThreeListThursday #TLT so my picks for great Halloween reads are:
1. The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix.
2. Psycho by Robert Bloch.
3. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.
4. Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman.
5. Doctor Sleep by Stephen King.

I‘d actually recommend the whole Practical Magic series by AH because it brings such a strong Halloween vibe! #Halloween

Had you hooked from the beginning. Many turns that get kinda hard to follow, but overall highly recommend!!

This book was so unpredictable. It was fun and really engaging. Couldn't stop reading. Final girls are women who survive. Irrespective of the situations they are put in. If you are a slasher genre fan, this book is for you. I loved this one.

A genre-bending gem that is more action-thriller than horror, but definitely made for Slasher fans with plenty of nods and classic nostalgia. Also plenty of twists and only a little predictable.

I discovered Hendrix with the vampire bookclub and a friend was reading this one at the same time... I am really liking the references to all the horror movies :)

I love that this book switches it up so that instead of Final Girls being survivors in Slasher movies, they're real survivors whom the slasher movies are based on. I also love that the events/movies parallel popular slasher movies all horror fans know. Summer Slaughter Part III in 3D... sound familiar? Lol

The first part is good. The second part is bat sh*t crazy. Then the third part makes sense again. The second act I was seriously hating it, but in the end the book redeemed itself. I loved all the nods to classic horror movie series. This was fast paced and action packed. Not my favorite by Hendrix but I enjoyed this.

Going to start on this one now. Heard great reviews on this one.

😮‍💨 Second book I read by this author and I'm still not a fan. I guess he is not the author for me. I was so excited to read this book and was disappointed by it. It was slow and boring. There was only like 10 minutesof action where book got interesting. And then went back to being boring.

Just started this and so far enjoying it very much. It goes nicely with my new Final Girl board game obsession.

Overall a pick for the entertainment value. I was raised on 80‘s slasher flicks & their tropes & I have a fondness for horror parodies, so this book is kind of up my alley. The MC Lynette drove me a bit crazy, as did her fellow final girls but I ended up rooting for them. I liked the twists, some I guessed, others I didn‘t & the ending scene rocked, but it was a bit tough to keep everyone straight. Lots of trigger warnings & gore & a crazy ride!

If you like horror movies and the Final Girls trope, along with some twist. You‘ll love this book! I found myself enjoying the characters and actually rooting for them bunch. Some times the Main Final Girl (Lynnette) can be insufferable but for the most part I enjoyed the ride of seeing her handle situations that only a Final Girl could.

Addictive, addictive, addictive! Only a few pages from the end and the twists are still coming!

This was actually a good read. Knocked around the ideas and tropes of horror films and brought them together in a nice tight novel. Highly recommended.

It‘s possible for a main character that you aren‘t particularly fond of to grow on you. This book remained on my TBR for over a year. I decided to purchase a copy and dive right in. I enjoyed reading it from start to finish.

I‘m probably gonna have to read some reviews once I finish this. I am at 73% and while I understand the concept I am not getting it. Maybe something is gonna happen in this last 27% that will help me. Currently reading on a bench in front of this beautiful old tree. Objects in mirror are much bigger than they appear.

A final girl is a the last one standing after a massacre…in which she has taken out the perpetrator.

We‘ve all watched at least one movie with a final girl. I enjoyed his poking at the gruesome slasher movie industry, but it was unnerving to see how the terror they lived through could then be immortalized in film. Complete with memorabilia. All these final girls were survivors who knew how to fight tooth and nail for their lives.

I loved all the 80s horror movie references but overall this plot was pretty flimsy. Also, Hendrix‘s style is comedic horror but this felt less funny and more chaotic. I think my fave by this author is still My BFF‘s Exorcism but this was an interesting read given its October. I felt like I watched a bunch of horror movies without actually watching them. 🍿 #AuthorAMonth

I admit it, I‘m a huge Grady Hendrix fan and this book is on par or better than the other books by him that I‘ve read.

I think this book perfectly encapsulates everything that is exciting about the slasher horror genre while mayyyybe looking at it with a slightly critical eye.

If you enjoy horror, you won‘t be disappointed!

I had such high hopes for this book, which may be why I was so disappointed. I mean, a group of women who were all final survivors of classic horror movies!? How awesome would that be!? I was expecting there to be classic slasher vibes, over the top acting, and plot holes left and right. I got all of that and more... not in a good way!

Picked up my copy of The Final Girl Support group for my book club. I really enjoyed seeing a Halloween display at my local indie. I‘m a huge Grady Hendrix fan, so I‘m glad my bookclub chose this read!

As someone who grew up on 70s and 80s horror films (the first movie I ever remember seeing is The Amityville Horror when I was no older than 5), I was looking forward to reading this novel. It was fun spotting which specific movie was being referenced and exploring the range of coping mechanisms of the various final girls. It drags a bit in the middle but picks up towards the end. There's not much here for those who aren't campy horror movie fans.

I almost didn‘t finish this. It was so ridiculously overdone I couldn‘t tell if it was supposed to be campy or serious.

I‘m so the opposite of a being a horror movie fan but I found this read to be full of great twists and turns although at times it still managed to drag a bit. I did enjoy the dark humor and while there is no one character I firmly loved it was still a perfectly imperfect read. Please note I'm 71% finished with this audio. It freaked me out so much I haven't picked it back up 😁🫢. This is probably the closest I'll get to a #scream when it comes to a book.

When I first read Hendrix, I thought he was a female author, he wrote females so well… and then there‘s this. Yikes. I don‘t know why ‘trauma‘ has to equate to selfish, annoying and spoiled, but I had zero sympathy for any of these characters. It‘s a trope I‘ve seen before, and hate. I should be able to empathize a little bit for characters that have gone through terrible events. Don‘t make me hate them. And the narrator? Yikes. All round bad.
