The Kept Woman
The Kept Woman | Karin Slaughter
The latest novel in the Will Trent series from No. 1 bestselling author, Karin Slaughter. A body is discovered in an empty Atlanta warehouse. It's the body of an ex-cop, and from the moment Special Agent Will Trent walks in he knows this could be the most devastating case of his career. Bloody footprints leading away from the scene reveal that another victim - a woman - has left the scene and vanished into thin air. And, worst of all, the warehouse belongs to the city's biggest, most politically-connected, most high-profile athlete - a local hero protected by the world's most expensive lawyers. A local hero Will has spent the last six months investigating on a brutal rape charge. But for Will - and also for Dr Sara Linton, the GBI's newest medical examiner - the case is about to get even worse. Because an unexpected discovery at the scene reveals a personal link to Will's troubled past. The consequences will wreak havoc on his life and the lives of those he loves, those he works with, and those he pursues. But Sara's scene-of-the-crime diagnosis is that they only have a few hours to find the missing woman before she bleeds out . . .

#AyUpAugust #Day8 #DontMarryHer Reading The Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter, you really wish someone had stood up & screamed at Will “DONT MARRY HER!” as soon as he thought about marrying Angie Polaski aka Devil Woman. This character is one of the most devious, manipulative, twisted & thoroughly evil character of either sex I‘ve ever read. Kudos to Ms Slaughter for her ability to believably write the most damaged characters.

I'm on a Karin Slaughter kick it seems. This one was a bit slow in the beginning but really picked up. Not my favorite by her, but still a great read!

ShyBookOwl I was on a Slaughter kick too earlier this year, but I haven't read this one. Which has been your favourite so far? 1mo
KaraWines @ShyBookOwl Probably the Good Daughter. I haven't read Pretty Girls yet, which a lot of people seem to really like. 1mo

March has been a Karin Slaughter month. Three of my reads have been Slaughter on audio. And folks...this is the best Slaughter yet. Jacked up beyond all reason. Truly warped. Psychological thriller + police procedural and edge of your seat action, with all the characters in the Will Trent series involved. Highly recommended.

Yay, I think I've finally broken through my slump! Karin Slaughter to the rescue, this Will Trent book was every bit as twisty and gritty as I knew it would be. Loved it! This series is SO FANTASTIC and I'm trying really hard not to think too much about the fact that I'm all caught up. I'll be waiting anxiously for the next installment 😭

Note: Definitely read the Grant County series *before* Will Trent!

#MusicalNewYear #day13 #CopSong My favourite literary cop is definitely Will Trent. He‘s flawed with a horrible backstory, but he‘s very much the nice guy, to his detriment where his nuts ex wife is concerned. When he falls in love with Dr Sara Linton, Angie goes on a psychotic stalker rampage & even then Will tries to work things out peacefully before finally seeing her as the bitch queen she is. He‘s also the nice guy to his GBI partner Faith.

Kappadeemom I really, really dislike Angie 😡 7mo
vivastory I read this in one day. Really enjoyed it. 7mo
Lizpixie @Kappadeemom me too. I don‘t know who‘s worse, Lena or Angie. Both have made Sara‘s life a living hell, one causing the death of her husband then the near death of his son, the other stalking her both online & in real life, leaving disgusting messages on her car & breaking into her home. Slaughter really knows how to write psychotic women! 7mo
Lizpixie @vivastory I wait every year for her books then read them in one sitting too. I keep saying I‘m gonna take my time but every year the same happens. Which leaves me waiting for another year!🤦🏻‍♀️ 7mo

Hi friends! This is on my #MakeMeReadIt stack.

I was planning to bring it with me on my trip. However, I just realized it‘s the 8th and apparently last book in the Will Trent series.

I‘ve never read any others in the series.

Do these need to be read in order? Will I be lost if I try to read it as a stand alone?!

Please help! I don‘t want to take it on my trip if I‘m going to be confused and end up not reading it when I can bring another..

gradcat I feel like these should be read in order, because Will‘s relationship status changes, and to get the full impact of that, you should probably see how his first relationship affected him. I‘m curious to know what others think, however. I hope this helps! 9mo
Laughterhp Tagging the people who voted for the book in my #makemereadit post 😊 @Andrew65 @EadieB @whatshesreadingnow 9mo
EadieB @Laughterhp I like to read the series in order. So I would wait til you read the others. Some don‘t mind reading out of order but I think you get more out of the series if you read in order. 9mo
See All 15 Comments
Laughterhp @gradcat That definitely helps. If his character changes throughout the series, it would make sense to read them in order. Now I have to pick up the other 7! 😊 9mo
Laughterhp @EadieB Thanks!! Okay, I think I‘ll stick to reading this series in order! 9mo
Andrew65 @gradcat @Laughterhp @EadieB I often read books out of order but I do feel this series does need to be read in order otherwise could be big spoilers. Currently only on book 3 in this series. I do love the series! I would actually go further and say read the Grant County Series first (7 books) as a key character from this series appears in the Will Trent series, and a massive spoiler for that series appears in the Will Trent Series. (edited) 9mo
Laughterhp Thanks @Andrew65 It sounds like I have a lot of Karin Slaughter books in my future! 😊 9mo
gradcat @Andrew65 I totally agree with you about starting with the Grant County series! That‘s the way I read them—I‘ve been a fan of hers from jump—but if you start with the Will Trent books, you can read them w/o necessarily having to read Grant County (oh, but what a loss it would be not getting to know Lena!). @Laughterhp @EadieB 9mo
Andrew65 @gradcat Oh yes Lena and her story! 9mo
Andrew65 @Laughterhp They are great books but a touch gritty in places. She does know how to write great books and great characters. 9mo
gradcat @Andrew65 One of my best friends claims that they are too violent for her...I guess they are a tad rough, but I‘ve seen much worse on TV and in movies! I love the whole series...the only one I haven‘t read is her latest stand-alone. (edited) 9mo
TrishB All in order definitely!! 9mo
Andrew65 @gradcat I‘ve read worse. Not yet read the standalones. 9mo
Laughterhp @Andrew65 Well, it turns out I have the 1st, 5th, and 8th of the Will Trent series. None of the Grant County series. I‘m ok with gritty. I‘ve only read Pretty Girls of hers so far. 9mo
Andrew65 @Laughterhp heard good things about that one. I‘m lucky that the library usually have all these. 9mo

I have read many Karin Slaughter books and really
enjoyed them. But to be honest I just couldnt get
into this one. It is the continuing story of Will Trent,
GBI and his involvement with Sara and Angie, who
by the way is a real b..ch...but they did grow up
together through hard times.

I loved the story, some action, some romance but it
was long (almost 500 pages) and I was disappointed
in the end.

#LitsyClassics #MayLovesClassics #day5 #Female When you look through my library shelves you‘ll find that there‘s a definite bias towards female authors. It‘s not a conscious thing, it‘s just evolved that way over time. These four amazing females take up most room on my shelves, I have every novel each of them has written. I highly recommend their books, not just to crime/thriller lovers, but to all readers.💕

irre I love Elizabeth George. I‘ve read all her books. I still need to read Karin Slaughter. 1y
Lizpixie @irre if you love Elizabeth, you should try Ann Cleeves. She writes both the Vera series (the tv show with Brenda Blethyn is really good too) & the Shetland series (another great tv show as well). 1y
irre I have to try! I don‘t read as many mystery books as I used too. I got hooked on Elizabeth George in 7th grade and now she‘s an automatic buy. 1y
Lynnsoprano Since I love Elizabeth George, and I trust your judgment, I will definitely have to try the others. I find that I also tend to read more women writers, also not a conscious choice. Have you read Julia Spencer-Fleming‘s novels? 1y
Lizpixie @Lynnsoprano I have her Clare/Russ books on audio. I stumbled across the first, In The Bleak Midwinter, by accident & loved the title so much I bought it. Now I have them all! 1y

#Aprella #day28 #SelfishLove Another prompt that fits Angie Polanski hands down. Her twisted version of love for Will Trent sees her scar him, force him to hurt himself & others, marry him then hotfoot it out the door to sleep around with impunity, torture him for years & when he finds a nice girl like Sara & finally gives Angie the boot, she starts stalking her relentlessly, leaving notes on her car, breaking into her house & spyware on her laptop.

The Split Enz Song is about a man praying that the woman who tore his heart out is never repeated. She leaves notes on Sara's car, she hacked Sara's online profile & has key-logs on all her devices, she breaks into Wills house and does things to Sara's possessions & she stalks both of them on a regular basis. #Characters2017 #day6 #CompletePsycho Angie Polaski, Will Trents ex is most definitely a complete psycho. This excuse for a woman emotionally & physically abused Will for years, ever since they were kids together in an orphanage, and now he's finally got rid of her & is trying to be happy with Sara Linton, she starts stalking her, leaving abusive messages on her car, letting herself into her home and going through her things. The woman is nuts.
