The Nest meets Curtis Sittenfeld in this stunning novel about a priceless inheritance that leads one family on a life-altering pursuit of the truth. The Millers are far from perfect. Estranged siblings Jess, Ashley and Jake find themselves under one roof for the first time in years, forced to confront old resentments and betrayals, when their mysterious, eccentric matriarch, Helen, passes away. But their lives are about to change when they find a secret inheritance hidden among her possessions-the Florentine Diamond, a 137-carat yellow gemstone that went missing from the Austrian Empire a century ago. Desperate to learn how one of the world's most elusive diamonds ended up in Helen's bedroom, they begin investigating her past only to realize how little they know about their brave, resilient grandmother. As the Millers race to determine whether they are the rightful heirs to the diamond and the fortune it promises, they uncover a past more tragic and powerful than they ever could have imagined, forever changing their connection to their heritage and each other. Inspired by the true story of the real, still-missing Florentine Diamond, The Imperfects illuminates the sacrifices we make for family and how sometimes discovering the truth of the past is the only way to better the future.

Mehso-so

This book was simultaneously fascinating and frustrating! It takes the real-life story of the missing Florentine diamond and speculates: what would happen if your grandmother left it to your family after her death? The Miller family are indeed the "imperfects" of the title, and watching them make poor decisions is the frustration of this book, but I still found it compelling.

Dysfunctional family drama about an inheritance that could potentially solve everyone‘s problems or could create a whole new set of issues for three warring siblings, their divorced mom and long ago absent father. I thought this book was quirky & clever and I enjoyed the historical component of the Florentine Diamond. Plus added bonus, the book was literally set on my old street, so I had a real sense of nostalgia.

I‘m LOVING this book…its literally set on my old street where I first grew up in Lower Merion… Edgehill Road. This would work for several #52Books23 prompts - still not sure which prompt I‘ll use it for. I‘m 💯 certain the author, Amy Meyerson is a local girl…right @DivineDiana ? !! She‘s already named Hymies and Laurel Hill Cemetery 😁

IndoorDame Fun! I read a book set where I grew up last year and it was so cool to see that in print! 1y

CBee I doubt I‘ll ever find a book set in my hometown (Vicksburg, MS) unless it‘s Civil War related nonfiction 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ 1y
Cinfhen I literally grew up on 203 Edgehill Road - it‘s so random why the author chose that street😄 @CBee @Read-y_Picker @squirrelbrain @IndoorDame - it is pretty cool - I texted all my siblings they weren‘t as amused 😂 1y
AmyG That‘s pretty wild. What town is this in? Our town in NJ had an Edge Hill. 1y
Cinfhen It‘s set in Lower Merion, Pa @AmyG outside of Philly - author keeps mentioning local deli‘s and other local spots. She obviously spent time in the area 1y
AmyG I thought it was PA! It‘s fun reading about places you know. Harlan Coben lives a few towns over from where we lived in NJ and he would write about the area. 1y
ShelleyBooksie What! Harlan Coben lives by you @AmyG !! Jelly. 1y
Librarybelle Oh! Stacking! 1y
AmyG @ShelleyBooksie He used to when we lived in NJ. 2 towns over. 1y
DivineDiana Thank you for putting on my radar! I visited her Website and read that although she currently lives in Los Angeles area, she is originally from Philadelphia! Stacked! 😘 1y
Cinfhen Yes, totally love that about Coben @AmyG my brother lives in West Orange and his kids went to the Jewish Day School in Livingston - I need to pick up a Coben, it‘s been a while. I think @Suzze knows Coben @ShelleyBooksie or there‘s a connection 🙌🏻 1y
Cinfhen I‘m enjoying the book @Librarybelle @DivineDiana interesting history too but it‘s a little slow in the middle. I‘m listening to audio via hoopla & I always like Cassandra Campbell as a reader🙌🏻 1y
Bklover 2nd package has arrived. 😁😁😁👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️ #muglove 1y
Cinfhen Yay @Bklover 🙌🏻I haven‘t spoken to my mom since I arrived in Morocco/ terrible Wi-Fi but I assume package has arrived. Going to Fez today so maybe Wi-Fi will improve ❣️😄 1y
Suzze @Cinfhen @AmyG @ShelleyBooksie I haven‘t talked to Harlan in years, but I got to know him early on in his career. He even used my name, Suzze T. as a character in a couple of his books. 1y
Cinfhen Hi @Suzze ♥️what‘s new??? Hope all is well 1y
ShelleyBooksie What!!!! That is SO amazing!!! I would faint if he wrote my name in a book. LOL 1y
Suzze @Cinfhen I‘m pretty good. I hang out mostly on TikTok (BookTok) @suzzereadsalot 1y

Loved this book! I loved learning about the Florentine diamond, and this potential history of the diamond. The family dynamics were very authentic. A great read!

Here‘s how the Diamond may have looked in a brooch with a Cattleya Orchid

This book was well perfect. I found the characters and family dynamics so realistic. The story was beautifully written along with the history of the Florentine diamond. If I had the time, the author lists many resources in the back to do more research.

Coming off of my birthday weekend, celebrating my 30th 🤭, I thought I‘d share the stack of books I treated myself too! 📚📚📚📚#BookHaul

It was super lowkey, drank wine and mojitos with the husband, made a stop at my indie bookshop, visited my parents, and then binged most of Take a Hint, Dani Brown (which is just as lovely as Chloe‘s story).

This book weaves the history surrounding the missing in real life Florentine diamond with the history of the fictional Miller family. Family dysfunction, family secrets, and long standing patterns of behavior make for a good story.

This was my first Amy Meyerson book and is similar to The Nest. It focuses on the Millers: Helen who leaves her things to her daughter, Deborah, and her grandchildren: Ashley, Jake, and Beck. Based on the real missing Florentine Diamond, it has parts of historical fiction where Helen‘s history is shown. All the characters seem interesting and real. I liked the ending which was a bit unexpected. #ReadYourSign #Taurusbook ♉️

Like my reaction to Meyerson's The Bookshop of Yesterdays, I was engaged through most of the book. However, the ending was unsatisfying to me—too sudden and pat. Too, her main characters (at least based on these two works) tend to be self-centered and immature. I just felt let down by the end of the book.
