Book Riot has a cool infographic and article about which US states are the most and least popular for book settings. Interesting read! https://www.google.com/amp/s/bookriot.com/book-settings-by-state/amp/

Smrloomis Oh wait, I guess the infographic is from this site: https://crossword-solver.io/books-set-around-america Just in case you‘re super curious and want to dig into this more! 2y
Soubhiville When I was #readingthestates I noticed that last year I came across tons of books set in NY and CA. Guess I‘m not the only one 😁📚 2y
BarbaraBB Super interesting! I‘ll keep the link! 2y

vivastory Poor Vermont. I'm honestly surprised by the number of books set in my state (MO) 2y
RamsFan1963 663 books are written about Maine? Wonder how many of those are by Stephen King?? 2y
Smrloomis @Soubhiville yeah I would have guessed those too although I thought Texas would be the top. Shows my bias 😂 2y
Smrloomis @BarbaraBB I thought so too! 2y
Smrloomis @vivastory The numbers are surprising in some places for sure. 2y
Smrloomis @RamsFan1963 you mean there are some set in Maine that are written by other people??? 2y
RamsFan1963 @Smrloomis Outside of Mr. King's work, John Irving's The Cider House Rules and Richard Russo's Empire Falls also take place in Maine. 2y
Smrloomis @RamsFan1963 yeah but when I think of Maine, I think of Stephen King first for sure 😂 2y

The old map was driving me nuts! As soon as I added one state, another one would drop! I like this site much better, because you can use different colors for different categories. (Spent a lot of time there, just passing through, etc.) In this case...green for book read, blue for book identified but not read, and red for book to be identified. #50states #mystery

Woo-hoo, I finished! All 50 states read. I found this chalkboard placemat in a bargain bin a while back, so I decided to use it to track my reads. This has been fun! Thanks to @Librarybelle for coming up with this idea and to everyone else for your posts. I‘ve enjoyed following what everyone read.

NatalieR Congratulations! 🎉👏🎉👏 4y

Well, I did it! Yay! Thanks so much to @Librarybelle for hosting #readingUSA2019.

My 5 star reads are shown on the picture, in no particular order.

I read;

30 hard copy, of which I already owned 12
11 Kindle, of which I already owned 2
6 borrowed from the library
3 borrowed from Libby

I *really* enjoyed this challenge, found some new authors and read some books I would not have considered before. Looking forward to #readingeurope2020!

I just saw this challenge. It sounds like great fun! My finishes so far. #readingUSA2019 @libertybelle

Kaye Good job ! It‘s interesting to see which states people are choosing. The maps help I think. I‘m thinking as it goes on it‘ll become more challenging when we get to the last few states. Waddya think ? 5y
Samplergal I think it‘s going to be very challenging. And surprising how many books are set in NY and Cali. Lol. I read a lot of UK authors so unless they fly into the Midwest, I‘m going to be out! 😂 5y

Most Famous Books That Takes Place in Every State

Check out the article here: http://www.businessinsider.com/famous-book-set-in-every-state-2016-4?utm_source=...

I wasn‘t surprised to see the books chosen for the three States that I lived in - Oregon (One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest) & New York (The Great Gatsby) & Washington (Twilight) 😊❤️ 📚

RaimeyGallant Cool! 7y
Amie I love lists like this. I've never even heard of my state's (Ohio) book. I would have guessed Beloved for Ohio. 7y
Alfoster Well dang! Love me some George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men!😍 7y

Pickpick

I loved the illustrations in this book as well as the variety of facts & information! It was really cool that there were so many authors represented, but also important people & events in sports, arts, & science. I also appreciated the diversity & the focus on Native cultures & people. Great book!

My daughter got this beautiful book as a Christmas gift from my parents. Sometimes it pays to not buy every amazing book you want! 😊 This purchase was made by my dad, without seeing it in person and not knowing I almost bought it THREE times!

tpixie Fun!! 6y
tpixie There are so many things to do. Many which overlap! 6y
Graciouswarriorprincess @tpixie. If you and @Bookworm83 visit the states, I would recommend doing this first as it gets more crowded as the day progresses! 6y
tpixie Ok!! 6y
tpixie What do they have at the station? 6y
Graciouswarriorprincess @tpixie. It‘s a lot of information about the state authors and little swag items such as bookmarks, pencils, literary posters, etc. I normally grab what I want and sort it out after the festival at night. 6y
Bookworm83 I live for swag! Thanks for this info, @Graciouswarriorprincess 😘 6y
Graciouswarriorprincess @Bookworm83 Tell the librarians at the state tables that you are a teacher. Sometimes they have extra things placed aside for teachers and librarians. This is one of my favorite things to do there. 6y
Bookworm83 Nice! Will do. How many authors did you end up hearing speak and getting a book signed by? I‘m trying to get my expectations in check since I know it will be packed. 6y
Graciouswarriorprincess @Bookworm83 @Tpixie. Are you available to Zoom today? I can talk to you both about game planning for the Book Festival 6y
Bookworm83 @tpixie I‘m around all day! 6y
tpixie @Graciouswarriorprincess @Bookworm83 I can‘t wait to talk and get the benefit of all your information! 6y
